Ocean-view café in Gangneung with terraced seats: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is an ocean-view café overlooking Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon. I returned for coffee and three baked goods, and found the terraced seating, rooftop, and blueberry cream cheese pie especially enjoyable.

I returned to Baegya Coffee (백야커피), which I had visited on a winter trip to Gangneung. I remembered being able to enjoy coffee and baked goods while looking out over Sageunjin Beach.

Sageunjin Beach has a colorful rainbow breakwater and an underwater observatory. From the café, I could take in the beach scenery at a glance.

Can you see the sea from seats away from the windows?

What I liked most was the seating arrangement, where the sea was visible from wherever I sat. The seats at the back, as well as those by the windows, were arranged in terraces so they faced the sea.

The interior was spacious and bright, with plenty of space between tables, so it felt comfortable. It was a good place to have a quiet conversation or simply look at the sea. When I visited, the atmosphere became even quieter in the late afternoon, and I could take my time enjoying the sea around sunset.

What is on the rooftop?

On the rooftop, I could drink coffee while feeling the sea breeze. It was also a nice place to take photos with the sea as a backdrop.

The rooftop also has a “Stairway to Heaven” photo spot. It caught my eye during the day, but I especially remember it after the lights came on around sunset.

How were the baked goods with the coffee?

There was also a wide variety of baked goods. The café stated that it uses 100% fruit purée from the French brand Adamance.

With my coffee, I ordered a croissant, blueberry cream cheese pie, and a mini sweet pumpkin loaf. They looked so appetizing that I chose a little too much, but I finished everything.

The blueberry cream cheese pie suited my taste particularly well. It had just the right amount of sweetness with the nutty richness of cheese, and its crisp crust went well with the coffee.

The mini sweet pumpkin loaf contained a whole piece of sweet pumpkin, which gave it a pleasant texture, and the bread itself was soft. I was also happy with the croissant, which I chose because I was curious about its basic bread flavor.

Was I satisfied on my return visit?

This time, too, I enjoyed spending time with the sea view, coffee, and baked goods. Drinking warm coffee while looking at the sea outside the window around sunset felt like a brief rest during my trip.

I again liked that the view was not limited to window seats and that there was generous space between tables. It suited a travel itinerary where I wanted to enjoy coffee and baked goods while looking at Sageunjin Beach.
