Date-night dinner with ocean view at Bueokgan Chinese, Marine City

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of a Marine City shopping complex in Haeundae, Busan. Seated by the window, the writer had garlic-fried cheonggyeongchae (bok choy), jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), small tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and beef jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), loving the jjamppong broth and the crispy sticky-rice tangsuyuk best. The dining room was a bit too quiet, but this spot is a great pick for a family meal or a date course.

Today we decided to have dinner in Marine City, Haeundae, and this is the restaurant we came across. I raced over after reading that you can eat here with an ocean view... 🫧🫧 Walk in the entrance and you immediately see an elevator. Since we were headed to the 2nd floor I just took the stairs... haha

Interior and atmosphere

Wait, what is this interior... The lighting and the red-and-green accents grabbed my eyes the second I walked in. A luxurious, modern vibe ❤️ Though I do wish they'd played some music ㅠㅠ It was so quiet you could hear everything from the kitchen; I feel like just having music playing would totally change the mood!!

Table layout at Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch

There are lots of seats for group gatherings, so I thought this would be a great spot for a get-together. The interior is just so pretty~

Large window-side table setting

The ocean-view window seat

We sat at a table with the ocean view! The table was big enough to fit a lot of food on it! On a sunny day I think the view alone would make the food taste better, even if it wasn't good ㅠㅠ

The interior is so pretty, seriously ㅠㅠ Every chair is different too, so each table seems to have its own mood. If you want to experience clean, trendy Chinese food in a nice atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend stopping by — just putting that recommendation in here!

Menu and prices

You'd think, at this kind of atmosphere, the prices would be way higher — but the taste and the vibe here exceed expectations!! A wide range of menu items, and the jajangmyeon is definitely good value! Solid basics plus some special dishes!

  • Poached-egg ganjajang (black bean noodles with a runny egg to pop) (₩10,000)
  • Beef brisket jjamppong, loaded with meat (₩12,000)
  • Mala gosu jjamppong for those who like exotic aromas (₩14,000)
  • Jalapeño cream shrimp — crispy and spicy charm (₩22,000)
  • If you're visiting with family or a group of friends, no need to overthink it — go for the 3-person set (₩90,000) or 5-person set (₩190,000)✨✨

What we ordered, one by one

Garlic-fried cheonggyeongchae — 15.0

Even though it was stir-fried in oil with that smoky mushroom flavor, the aftertaste wasn't greasy at all — actually refreshing on the palate. Great to eat before the mains!

A plate of garlic-fried cheonggyeongchae (bok choy)

Jajangmyeon — 8.0

Good value, but it's just a plain, unremarkable jajangmyeon. I regretted not getting the ganjajang ㅠ

Tangsuyuk (small) — 28.0

Must be the sticky rice batter — the crispiness kept making me want more. The batter wasn't too thick either. The meat had that pale, tender flesh haha — even at the small size, the portion surprised me with how generous it was.

Crispy small-size sticky-rice tangsuyuk

Beef jjamppong — 12.0

Spicy and hot — I liked the jjamppong more than the jajang. The broth is rich and deep. You really must order the jjamppong 👍

How was it as a date spot?

This is a perfect restaurant for a family meal or a date spot. The space is lovely and the meal was so satisfying that I'd want to come back once more! I only found out during this visit that it's a franchise — apparently there's a Western-food Bueokgan location on Dalmaji-gil, which I might check out sometime. Given how good the atmosphere is here, I'm already looking forward to the food there too. At the Marine City branch, you can eat and then take a walk right out front to digest — the perfect course for a date haha.
