Gonjiam bakery café with 2nd-floor window photo zone: La Cuesta

Late last summer, I took the kids on a little outing to Gonjiam. After filling up on delicious grilled meat, I suddenly craved something sweet and cold. So we headed to La Cuesta Gwangju, which I'd already been eyeing!

La Cuesta Gwangju: the large Gonjiam bakery café that has been on TV

La Cuesta Gwangju is a large bakery café on Gyeongchung-daero in Gonjiam that's already quite famous and has appeared on TV many times. True to its reputation, the building's exterior was clean and pretty, so I liked it from first impression! Even the entrance was lovely.

The café is spread across two spacious floors.

• 1st floor: a comfortable space to pick from a variety of delicious-looking breads and check out
• 2nd floor: a variety of stylishly different seating options, so you can sit wherever suits your taste

Before settling in, the kids and I had fun exploring both floors first and went to pick out bread.

What's left at the La Cuesta bakery counter by late afternoon

The bakery counter on the 1st floor of La Cuesta Gwangju had a really wide variety of bread, plus lots of savory cookies too, but since we visited in the late afternoon, a lot of the bread had already sold out.

I briefly considered doing a cookie-making activity for the kids, but decided we'd end up eating way too much sugar, so I saved that for next time.

I seriously debated over the melon bread's visuals at the bakery counter lol (but I held myself back!)

Country bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic sauce is just so good.

The kids kept asking for this croissant, but I told them to hold off since we had bingsu (shaved ice dessert) coming... I really wanted it too... looking back now, maybe I should've just gotten it ㅠㅠ

Isn't there something about a single leftover loaf that makes you feel like you have to eat it?

There are also bottled drinks for kids.

The first-floor self-bar: napkins, water and a bread warmer

After picking out bread, we finished ordering drinks and the snowflake bingsu the kids had been singing about excitedly. The 1st floor of La Cuesta Gwangju has a self-bar with napkins, water, and a machine for warming up bread. There are also comfortable seats set up on one side.

Snowflake bingsu for 14,000 won and a La Cuesta latte for 8,000 won

What we ordered at La Cuesta Gwangju was the snowflake bingsu (₩14,000), a La Cuesta latte (₩8,000), and two cream-filled breads. We happily settled into a window seat, and since there was a pretty photo zone too, the kids and I had fun taking photos together. While we were busy taking pictures, our drinks and bingsu were ready and called out with a buzzer, so we picked them up!

The sweet, soft snowflake bingsu completely won over the kids' taste buds, and the signature La Cuesta latte had a nutty, rich flavor that was perfect for a sugar recharge.

Paired with the bread stuffed full of soft cream, the combination was absolutely fantastic!

Is La Cuesta worth it as a dessert stop after a Gonjiam outing?

La Cuesta Gwangju has a pretty building, comfortable seating, and sweet desserts plus a perfect snowflake bingsu, so the whole family left feeling happily recharged. There are also plenty of pretty outdoor tables, making it an even better spot to visit in this cool autumn weather!!
