Today was lunch day with a friend I know ✨ We were trying to figure out what to eat, and since our afternoon plans would run straight through to evening, we decided to go for something hearty and filling 🥺 Turns out there's a real local favorite nearby that only opens for lunch, so we headed straight there 🤍 Buk-gu, Ulsan Korean restaurant "Boksan Haejang"

Boksan Haejang is a Korean restaurant on the 1st floor of 8 Songjeong 29-gil, Buk-gu, Ulsan, near Goheon Middle School. It's open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 14:30, last order at 14:00, and closed every Monday — so you can only go during lunch hours.

If you visit and all the tables are full, just use the Tabling kiosk near the entrance to register for the wait list 🌟 After registering, you can wait comfortably in the outdoor waiting area I mentioned earlier 😋
Inside Boksan Haejang: room, tables and seating
Boksan Haejang is decorated with retro-vibe props that really pop. Since the place was full when I visited, I unfortunately couldn't take photos of the inside tables 🥲 But from memory, there were about 7 tables for 2 or 4 people!
There were also disposable aprons and baby chairs for young guests set up on one side of the restaurant :)
The restroom is located next to the kitchen and is unisex, so keep that in mind when using it ‼️
Boksan Haejang menu and what we ordered
All four signature dishes at Boksan Haejang are famous. Besides the main dishes, they also sell side menu items that pair well with the meal 💛 We decided to order two of the mains ✨

On the table were salt, pepper, sancho pepper, and perilla seeds lined up to boost the soup's flavor, and there were even hair ties thoughtfully provided for guests with long hair 🥺🤍
Once you order, the staff brings out three basic side dishes! Radish salad, pickled onion, diced radish kimchi
Boksan haejangguk, 11,000 won: the glass noodles make it
Boksan Haejangguk comes with rice for ₩11,000. It arrives absolutely packed to the brim 🍲 Served in a hot stone bowl, it stayed warm all the way through the meal 🥺
Radish, meat, bean sprouts, green onion, zucchini, mushrooms — and on top of all that, plenty of glass noodles, which is honestly the kicker 🫶🏻 The chewy glass noodles soak up the spicy hangover soup broth perfectly, and the combo was just made for each other 💗
Haejang kalguksu, 13,000 won: noodles with a bowl of rice
Haejang Kalguksu is ₩13,000 and comes with rice. The portion is also seriously huge... 🫢
There's a big chunk of radish in it, giving a clean, refreshing taste with every bite, and the kalguksu noodles themselves were super chewy — great texture that paired really well with the broth 💓
Rolling up the noodles with meat and zucchini for a bite — yum~ then a spoonful of broth with the rice piled with toppings — yum yum~ Eating it this way is seriously so good 🥺🫶🏻 I honestly didn't expect a noodle dish to come with rice too, but having rice provided as well was a nice bonus 🌟 Thanks to that, switching back and forth between noodles and rice was a lot of fun 🤍
