Ulsan kalguksu restaurant with a somyeon noodle add-on: Boksan Haejang
In short
Boksan Haejang is a haejangguk (hangover beef soup) and yukhoe (beef tartare) restaurant on Songjeong29-gil in Songjeong-dong, Buk-gu, Ulsan. Over a rainy weekday lunch the writer ordered Boksan Haejangguk at 11,000 won and haejang kalguksu at 13,000 won, then added a 1,000-won somyeon (thin wheat noodle) portion to eat it like a hangover noodle soup; the broth was mild rather than sharp, with plenty of beef and radish. Boksan Haejang serves lunch only, for three and a half hours a day, so arriving early is the safest plan.

It rained on and off, the sky was gloomy, and I found myself craving something hot and rich — so I headed to lunch at Boksan Haejang, which was already packed with customers!
Boksan Haejang hours and location (Songjeong29-gil, Buk-gu, Ulsan)

Boksan Haejang is on the ground floor!

There's plenty of street parking nearby, so parking is easy
Heading inside~

The vibe: a cozy open kitchen with about 8 tables
Boksan Haejang has a fairly cozy setup with around 8 tables~ Bustling with customers~ Clearly a local favorite!

Perfect for a workday lunch, a family meal, or a get-together with friends

It's not just gukbap (soup with rice) — they also serve yukhoe (raw beef tartare), so there's plenty to choose from depending on what everyone's in the mood for!

Boksan Haejang sources directly from its own affiliated businesses — Boksan Meats, Boksan Meat Hall, and Boksan Donkatsu — which lets them serve generous portions at reasonable prices
Boksan Haejang menu and prices

There's haejangguk, yukhoe bibimbap, yukhoe mulhoe, and haejang kalguksu, and you can add sides like pork bulgogi or yukhoe
- Boksan Haejangguk 11,000
- Haejang Kalguksu 13,000
- Somyeon noodle topping 1,000

The side dishes arrived~ (radish salad, pickled onion, and diced radish kimchi)

They also have a set of 4 seasonings and hair ties on hand
After a little while, the food came out!
Boksan Haejangguk (₩11,000) — how's the broth?
The haejangguk (hangover soup) arrived~

Boksan Haejangguk is a Gyeongsang-style beef gukbap. The broth is rich yet clean, and it's loaded with meat and radish, so it's really filling with rice!

The hot broth comes packed with glass noodles, bean sprouts, and more — plenty satisfying as a lunch on its own!

It's not too greasy or harsh, and it goes down easily once you mix in the rice (steam rising everywhere~ careful, it's hot haha)
A bite with some well-fermented diced radish kimchi on top, yum~ The crunchy texture and tangy flavor cleanse your palate!

The radish is soft enough to melt in your mouth, cooked until tender~ It's fully soaked up the flavor of the broth, so even the radish alone tastes deep and rich
Got surprised by how hot the broth was! (bubbling away~ like lava haha, watch your mouth)

The broth isn't harsh but has real depth, so the more you eat, the more you keep going back for another spoonful!
Haejang Kalguksu (₩13,000) and the ₩1,000 somyeon topping

Haejang Kalguksu is ₩13,000. Slurping down the chewy kalguksu (hand-cut noodles) leaves you properly full~ No need for many side dishes, you can finish the whole bowl on its own!

The somyeon (thin wheat noodle) topping is such a generous deal at just a thousand won~ It's not just noodles, it comes with broth too haha. Add the topping and you've basically got hangover noodle soup!
Slurping down the somyeon~ hangover noodle time hehe. It tastes a bit like ramen noodles with a touch of sesame oil (a thousand won's worth of happiness)
Baby chairs, aprons, and other amenities
The staff were kind too~

The signage has a fun sense of humor haha

While I was eating, takeout customers kept coming in — definitely a Songjeong favorite~ haha

All domestic ingredients~ nice, good stuff!

(patting my belly) Heading outside~

There's a nice walking path nearby, so I went to walk off the meal before heading to Costco~
In short: go early for lunch at Boksan Haejang
A satisfying, wallet-friendly meal that fills you right up — I recommend Boksan Haejangguk as a hangover soup spot in Buk-gu, Ulsan! It can get crowded during lunch hours, so if you want to eat at a leisurely pace, go early~
