Today I'm introducing Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch, a restaurant I visited with my family for meat! It's a barbecue restaurant located in Seosin-dong, Jeonju, and I went with my husband and Jjin-i for a meal. I'll show you everything in detail, from the meat to the atmosphere of the place 🤭

Where to park in Seosin-dong and how to get the parking validation

🚗 You can park at the nearby K Parking Lot. When I visited, they offered 1 hour of validated parking for lunch and 2 hours for dinner. Since validation policies can change, I'd recommend checking before you visit 😊

After parking, be sure to grab the yellow parking validation slip from the management office first! When you finish your meal and pay, show the slip to staff and they'll stamp it for you like this. Then take the stamped slip back to the K Parking Lot management office to get your parking validated 😊 If it's your first time visiting, don't just park and walk off — make sure to get your validation slip!

In front of the restaurant, the menu and prices are displayed in big letters, so it was easy to check what was on offer before going in. Besides the meat menu, they also have a separate lunch special menu, so it seemed like a good option for lunch too! The exterior is clean and the menu board is clearly visible near the entrance, so even first-time visitors should be able to find it easily!

Sunday 7pm: the dining room and the side dishes

The interior of Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch was clean overall with a decent amount of space between tables. Every table has its own grill, and the basic tableware and water were neatly set. When we visited around 7pm on a Sunday, there were quite a few other diners, so it seemed like a popular dinner spot in Seosin-dong. It does have that typical bustling barbecue restaurant vibe, but it wasn't too uncomfortable visiting with a child 😊

The basic side dishes were bean sprout salad, baek-kimchi (white kimchi), pickles, lettuce wraps, and pickled onion, among others. These were the kind of side dishes you'd pair with the meat, all included by default, and we could ask staff for more when we ran low. Overall it was the kind of side dish lineup you'd typically expect at a Korean barbecue restaurant, which paired well with the meat!

Ordering 500g of raw beef short ribs and jjagechi

You order through the tablet at the table, and besides raw short ribs, there were various other meat and meal menu items available. Since we were eating with our child, we chose 500g of beef raw short ribs (saeng galbi), and also ordered jjagechi to go along with it!

After ordering, we waited and steamed egg and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) also came out. There were already several kinds of basic side dishes, and with steamed egg and doenjang jjigae added too, the side dish spread was generous and lovely 😍

The beef raw short ribs looked appetizing just from the color! There was a nice amount of marbling visible even before grilling, which had me fully anticipating the taste 🤤

How the beef short ribs tasted, and who grills them at dinner

The jjagechi was tasty, but I found it a bit greasy 🥲 The meat itself had no gamey smell, and it was tender without being tough, so I enjoyed it a lot 💛 Since it's raw short rib, you could really taste the natural flavor of the meat, and even the fattier parts weren't overly greasy, so it was easy to eat without feeling weighed down!

And during dinner hours, a staff member grills the meat for you directly. When we go to a barbecue restaurant with our child, we're usually running around grilling meat while also trying to take care of him, but since they grilled it for us, I could focus on taking care of Jjin-i and eat comfortably! ※ I've seen reviews saying you have to self-grill at lunch, so if you're planning a lunch visit, keep that in mind!

Is Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch good for a family dinner with a child?

Jjin-i doesn't usually eat this well at barbecue restaurants, but this time he ate so well he was even picking up the ribs and gnawing on them himself 🤣 Watching him eat it happily with rice, it must have really suited his taste haha

After finishing our meal, they also had plum tea and sujeonggwa (cinnamon-ginger punch) ready, so we had a cup to cleanse our palates before leaving! Having a sweet, cool drink after eating meat was a nice way to wrap things up. Most of all, seeing Jjin-i so happily gnawing on the ribs was, as a mom, satisfying enough on its own 🤣 Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch was a good place to visit when you want a comfortable meat meal with the family 👋🏻
