Hongcheon hanok café for big groups: pavilion seats at Gil151

My whole family gathered a week before Chuseok this year to visit family graves near Chuncheon and spend a 1-night-2-day trip at Vivaldi Park!

With everyone from parents to kids — a whopping 14 of us — moving together, I searched like crazy for a nice spot everyone could enjoy. What I landed on was Gil151 Hanok Cafe, which is trending as one of the hottest spots to recommend as a Hongcheon café in Gangwon-do~!!

With its serene hanok (traditional Korean house) atmosphere and a huge, lush lawn stretching out, it seemed perfect — parents could get lost in nostalgia and the kids could run around while everyone enjoyed some good drinks~~~

To beat traffic, we agreed to arrive around 10 a.m. on Saturday, right when the café opens — and off we went~~!!

First impressions of Gil151 Hanok Cafe: green lawn and wooden pavilions

After winding through forest roads, the moment we arrived my jaw dropped at the entrance~! It was massive — a grand hanok built of solid wood and a huge green lawn filled the view all at once, and even the air felt different.

In one corner of the garden a cool fountain shot up and a waterwheel turned, creating a traditional scene. Wide pavilions lined both sides of the lawn — I couldn't help but gasp~!!

Stepping inside, there was a stylish rafter ceiling, atmospheric traditional floor tables, and long group tables too — plenty of seating variety. The staff were really kind, and the signature drinks with hanok flair plus the daily-baked bakery lineup caught my eye right away!

Can 14 people fit in one pavilion at Gil151?

The pavilion at Gil151 Hanok Cafe was spacious and comfortable enough for all 14 of us to fit together. The weather was gorgeous that day, so instead of sitting inside we took the pavilion — and it was honestly amazing haha. The kids could run wild on the lawn while the adults chatted under the shade, catching the breeze~

There's a posted time limit of 1.5 hours for the outdoor pavilion, which was plenty of time to relax properly and make good memories with the family!

Kiosk ordering and the bean choice: Kkotgil, Solgil or decaf

We walked in and ordered easily on the kiosk, though there was so much we wanted to try that everyone had a hard time deciding~~~ We ordered the signature drinks, something for the kids, and some sweet bakery items!

I especially loved that you could pick your beans to taste — fruity Kkotgil, nutty Solgil, or decaf with no extra charge. Such a nice touch. The striking signature desserts paired with the rich coffee aroma were pure healing just to look at~~!!

There were even sweet dessert breads that would hit the spot for the older generation — a lineup that could satisfy every taste, young and old~

Summer-only flower-ice affogato, and the right order to eat it in

The menu item I was most excited about was Gil151 Hanok Cafe's summer-only flower-ice affogato~!!! Apparently this was its last week~ The visuals were true art, and the moment it arrived everyone was busy taking photos haha

The instructions card kindly explained to set the pretty flower ice cubes aside first, then pour the espresso in — but I got too excited and just poured the shot straight in without reading it, oops haha

Still, the way the sweet, cold ice cream mixed with the bitter espresso spread smoothly across the whole mouth was absolute honey~ If you get to try it, please actually read the instructions and enjoy it the pretty way haha

We also passed around the café latte, chocolate latte, Belgian chocolate latte, 'flower blooming in mud,' and matcha latte — each one had its own personality and was so good it basically invited endless sipping~!!!

Why Saturday opening time won over the whole family

I asked a staff member, and apparently on Sundays parking and getting a good pavilion spot get really competitive. Luckily we came right at 10 a.m. Saturday opening, so we parked with plenty of room to spare and sat comfortably in that prime pavilion spot, all of us relaxing and enjoying it~!

Best of all, my picky parents kept praising it, saying "this place is really charming and comfortable," and as the one who brought them, I felt so proud.

Kids could run around happily on the green lawn while the adults relaxed chatting away in the cool pavilion — a Hongcheon café in Gangwon-do I'd recommend for going with family and kids to unwind. My parents watched the kids running around for a long time, then turned childlike themselves and snapped a few photos..haha

Tips before you visit Gil151 Hanok Cafe in Hongcheon

Gil151 Hanok Cafe is located at 147 Gilgol-gil, Nammyeon, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. Hours are 10:00–18:30 (last order 18:00), closed every Thursday. There's a free private parking lot with staff on hand.

• The approach road near the café is a single-lane country road, so if you meet an oncoming car it can catch you off guard — beginner drivers should be ready to yield
• There's a large outdoor lawn, but pets are not allowed
• Pavilion seats have a 1.5-hour time limit, so please be considerate of others waiting
• About 15 minutes by car from Vivaldi Park or Ocean World

A relaxing stop for families and couples alike

The dignified quiet of the hanok, the open view and garden, and drinks and desserts made with real care — everything was perfect at the start of our trip. It's a place that can give parents a nostalgic memory and kids a fun lawn playground.

If you want to soak in some natural, relaxed vibes for a family trip or a date course, I'd recommend Gil151 Hanok Cafe as a Hongcheon café in Gangwon-do. Definitely worth a stop!!
