Seongsu dessert café with big tables for a Sunday with friends

I had plans with friends in Seongsu-dong over the weekend, so it had been a while since I got to hang out at a pretty café and catch up over sweet desserts ☺️ Seongsu-dong is always so crowded, so I was wondering where we could go to chat comfortably, and this place turned out to be a Seongsu dessert café that's been getting super popular lately for its taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry).

Where Childish is and when it opens

Childish is on the 2nd floor of 114 Yeonmujang-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, open daily 11:00–21:00 (last order 20:30), closed every Monday. It's a 6-minute walk from Exit 2 of Seongsu Station on Line 2, right along the Seongsu hotspot strip, so it's very convenient to fit into a day out.

What the second floor of Childish feels like

Opening the door to the 2nd floor of this cute-feeling café, wow, the inside was bigger than I expected! The interior was so cute and the seats were pretty spacious too. Most tables can seat 4 or more.

Overall it has a warm feel, with cute taiyaki-motif details all over the place haha. It was great fun looking around and taking photos. The turtle-shaped bread was especially adorable... If you like cute things + bread, I recommend checking out Childish, a Seongsu dessert café.

To sum up Childish's popular menu lineup: it starts with the signature salted bread x taiyaki, and includes pizza salted taiyaki, mammoth chewy salted taiyaki, and the jambon-beurre salted bread sandwich.

I'd been really looking forward to the jambon-beurre salted bread sandwich and got there around 2pm on a Sunday, but it was already sold out — I guess it's just that popular — and I was so disappointed I couldn't try it ㅠㅠ If anyone else is heading to Childish, please eat the jambon-beurre for me..!

There were so many tempting items that after a lot of deliberation, we decided to order the pizza salted taiyaki, salted bread, mammoth chewy, and Taiwanese-style mango bingsu — going all in! Just a heads up: on weekend peak hours this popular Seongsu dessert café can have a wait, and since everything is baked fresh to order right when you order it, it does take a little time for the food to come out..!

How the crisp-outside, chewy-inside salted bread taiyaki tastes

First up, the salted taiyaki with that crispy-outside, chewy-inside charm...

Childish's signature salted bread taiyaki was insanely salty and crispy from the very first bite! They say it's made with 100% dairy fat butter and low-gluten rice flour — with the salted bread base, the outside is crunchy and crisp while the inside is moist and chewy, done just right. I really enjoyed it.

The salty, savory butter flavor really comes through — it genuinely feels like eating a fancy salted bread taiyaki!! It tasted noticeably more upscale than the street-vendor taiyaki you're used to.

Pizza salted taiyaki and mammoth chewy salted taiyaki

The pizza salted taiyaki was loaded with cheese, and honestly it was an unbeatable combo. My friend said this was her top pick. The salty pizza flavor and the salted bread texture go together so well... I could see myself wanting to make this every day. Later on when I got hungry again, I actually thought about ordering another pizza salted bread. Yum.

The mammoth chewy salted taiyaki was packed with mugwort rice cake, chewy rice cake, and sweet red bean butter, so it was sweet and chewy — if you've got an old-lady palate like me, you'll definitely love this one 💛 But since it's stuffed with so much rice cake, this one is genuinely the filling, weight-gain kind of delicious... hehe

Taiwanese-style mango bingsu at Childish

It was a bit hot that day, so we also ordered the mango bingsu (shaved ice dessert), and I was surprised it came in what was basically a giant basin. The ice was soft and full of fresh mango flavor — really sweet and refreshing.

Is Childish a good Seongsu café for meeting friends?

Most of all, since they bake the salted bread dough fresh right when you order — my favorite kind of base — there's really no way it could taste bad...

The space is pretty roomy and has a great vibe for taking photos and hanging out with friends, so I'm calling this a certified Seongsu hotspot. It's the kind of place that's a treat for both your eyes and your mouth! I'll definitely be coming back to Childish whenever I'm craving a Seongsu dessert café fix.
