Pink salt espresso at Yeonnam-dong dessert café Pip Espresso Bar

In short

Pip Espresso Bar is an Italian-style espresso bar and dessert café in an alley off Seongmisan-ro 29-gil in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul. On a café date with her mom, the writer ordered a hot americano, panna salata (espresso topped with cream and pink salt) and peach melba with peach and shine muscat grapes. The salty edge on the strong espresso made panna salata drink like a dessert coffee, which is why Pip Espresso Bar is worth a stop in Yeonnam-dong.

Today I'm bringing you a review of Pip Espresso Bar, an espresso and dessert specialist in Yeonnam-dong that I discovered while out on a café date with my mom! Yeonnam-dong already has so many pretty cafés, but this one caught my eye because it's less of a regular café and more of an espresso bar where you can enjoy Italian-style desserts like tiramisu alongside your coffee ☕️🇮🇹

Where Pip Espresso Bar is in Yeonnam-dong, and what it looks like

Pip Espresso Bar sits at 5 Seongmisan-ro 29-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 1st floor, tucked into a Yeonnam-dong alley. The building itself was pretty unique — it looks like a renovated old house, complete with an outdoor staircase and a rooftop space, so it really had that distinct Yeonnam-dong vibe. It blends naturally into the alley, the kind of place you'd glance at twice just walking by 🥺🥺🇮🇹☕️ Isn't the exterior lovely?

Desserts and aperitivo cocktails on the Pip Espresso Bar menu

What caught my attention at Pip Espresso Bar was the desserts 😍 From tiramisu to tiramisu banana crumble, tiramisu muscat, peach melba, macadamia platter, to stroopwafel — the variety was pretty distinctive. The showcase also had classic financiers, which looked perfect for pairing simply with coffee.

What surprised me was that it's not just coffee and desserts — they also serve aperitivo cocktails like Aperol spritz, Campari spritz, limoncello spritz, and Negroni! With granita cocktails like Baileys granita and limon lemon, plus Peroni beer, it seemed like a great spot to enjoy espresso and dessert in the daytime and switch to a light drink in the evening 🍾🍾

Why espresso costs different prices at the table and standing

True to its name, Pip Espresso Bar had a surprisingly wide range of espresso drinks — beyond the basic espresso, there was strapazzato, macchiato, romano, cremoso, panna salata, panna truffle, and con panna mascarpone — menus you don't usually come across easily.

What I found especially interesting was that the espresso menu has separate prices listed for table service and standing service. It gave off that Italian espresso bar vibe, where you stand for a quick shot and go 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

The signature menu items were Pip Coffee, B.I.C., and Pip Nut Latte, and there were also familiar coffee options like americano, café latte, vanilla latte, and cappuccino, so it seemed like a welcoming place even for people who find straight espresso a bit much. My mom ordered a hot americano, I got the panna salata, and for dessert we ordered peach melba!! ☕️☕️☕️

Inside Pip Espresso Bar and its outdoor seats

The interior mixes wood tones with metal touches, giving off a vintage yet hip Yeonnam-dong feel! ❤️ It's not a flashily decorated café, but I think that natural, relaxed atmosphere is exactly what makes Pip Espresso Bar's charm.

There were also outdoor seats set up outside, and on a cool, pleasant day like this, having coffee out there would be amazing!! ☕️ Of course, when we visited, the outdoor seats were already full haha 🥹 A bit disappointing, but we settled in indoors!! Next time I'd love to sit outside and enjoy an espresso at a leisurely pace ❤️

What peach melba tastes like: peach, shine muscat and berry sauce

The peach melba we ordered was visually striking from the start — peach, shine muscat grapes, and ice cream, all piled high with a sweet-tart berry sauce, so refreshing just to look at 🍑🍇🍨

With the tartness of the fruit cutting through the sweet ice cream, it felt lighter than I expected, and it paired really well with strong coffee. If you love fruit-based desserts, this is one to watch for! Refreshing enough to clean your palate — good stuff 👍👍

Panna salata: does pink salt really work with espresso?

From the espresso menu, I tried the Panna Salata ☕️ — espresso topped with soft cream and pink salt. At first, I wondered if salt would really work with coffee! But the bitterness of the strong espresso, paired with the sweet, soft cream, and finished off with a hint of saltiness, came together in a combination that was way better than I expected 😍

It was much smoother and nuttier than drinking espresso alone, making it a great option even for people who usually find strong espresso too intense. Thanks to the sweetness of the cream, it was also enjoyable to sip like a dessert coffee! It paired especially well with sweet desserts, since the coffee's bitterness would cut through in between bites and reset the palate ❤️ The americano was reliably good too.
