Kalguksu in rich chicken bone broth

I visited Eonyang Dak Kalguksu in Songcheon-dong, Jeonju, and wanted to tell you about it~! Its chicken bone broth is enriched with perilla seed powder for a nutty, deeply savory flavor, and I heard it comes with half a chicken too, making for a generous meal. Let me show you all the details!

Spacious seating and a self-service station

Here’s the interior~ It was clean and neatly kept, with comfortably spaced tables, so eating didn’t feel cramped.

As soon as we sat down, they set out the side dishes! There was napa cabbage kimchi and danmuji (pickled yellow radish), and the kimchi was Silbi kimchi, so its spicy kick paired really well with the chicken kalguksu~

Each table had small plates, salt, and pepper ready for us~

This is the self-service station~ There’s extra danmuji and napa cabbage kimchi, so if you need more, just help yourself!

This is what we ordered~

Full spread of the ordered chicken kalguksu set

Seeing the whole spread, it looked so generous~ The deeply simmered chicken broth came with springy kalguksu noodles and tender chicken, making it such a great, filling meal~

Rich chicken broth kalguksu with chicken

Springy noodles and a spicy, savory broth

The kalguksu noodles were soft but pleasantly chewy, and slurping up the noodles soaked in that rich broth was so delicious~ Add some chicken between the noodles, and you get a clean yet seriously satisfying flavor.

Spicy seasoning is added to the milky chicken broth, giving this dish a warming heat and a rich flavor from the very first taste.

The spice comes through right away in the broth, but the chicken broth’s hearty, clean flavor balances it out, so it has a depth beyond simply being hot! The soft, chewy noodles had soaked up the spicy broth and were perfect for slurping. The spicy yet mild flavor naturally rounded out the heat, and I enjoyed it so much.

The half chicken was tender and moist, so it was easy to pull the meat off with chopsticks!

Set dumplings and a sikhye finish

These are the dumplings that came with the set~ One bite brought together the pleasantly chewy wrapper and the mild flavor of the filling. The filling was moist, with a subtle savory taste from the meat and vegetables, so they were easy to enjoy without feeling heavy~

Eaten with the hot kalguksu broth, the dumplings’ mild, nutty flavor came through even more. Paired with the spicy kalguksu, their soft flavor balanced the spicy broth beautifully~ We finished with sikhye, a sweet rice drink. Everything was so delicious, haha.

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu in Songcheon-dong, Jeonju, was perfect for a hearty meal, with its rich, savory chicken broth, soft kalguksu noodles, and generous chicken. I especially liked that the one-person set lets you enjoy a side dish even when visiting alone. I really recommend it!
