In short
Seongsan Jejutgan is a Jeju-style pork barbecue restaurant in Sin-sigaeji, Jeonju, Jeonbuk. We had the Aewol Hangeun set for 50,800 won, with six sauces and kimchi jjigae while the staff grilled the thick-cut pork. Verdict: a convenient, juicy black pork meal with lots of ways to enjoy each bite.

I visited Seongsan Jejutgan (성산제줏간) in Jeonju Sin-sigaeji and wanted to tell you about it~! It is a barbecue restaurant where you can enjoy the atmosphere of Jeju Island along with the flavor of black pork. I heard that it offered Jeju’s distinctive vibe and Jeju-style grilled pork, so I had to visit—let me introduce it in detail!

The space was clean overall, with a modern pojangmacha-style (Korean street-bar-style) feel that made it comfortable for a meal. The tables were also fairly well spaced, so it looked great for visiting with friends or family~

Basic sides and sauces
As soon as we sat down, they set out the basic side dishes~! There were several kinds of sides and sauces!

Grilled deodeok root, white kimchi, pickled radish wraps, and bracken fern were served as the basic sides!

There were six sauces: salted shrimp with perilla seeds, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste dip), wasabi, salt, salted squid, and salted cutlassfish innards~. Being able to eat the meat in so many different combinations with the sauces meant I never got tired of it.

They also gave us a generous serving of shredded scallions.

This is the kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) that came with the set. It had a rich, pleasantly spicy flavor that went especially well with the meat. The kimchi was thoroughly fermented, giving the broth a deep flavor!

This steamed egg was provided for writing a review~. It is such an appealing menu item for its fluffy, soft texture. When you scoop up the warm steamed egg, its airy, moist texture gently melts in your mouth—it was mild, nutty, and so delicious~

There was a self-service bar, too.

They had all kinds of ssam vegetables (leaves for wrapping food) and the basic sides, so if you need more side dishes, just help yourself~

Aewol Hangeun set and staff-grilled pork
Here is the menu~! Their signature dishes are Jeju black pork flower neck meat and premium pork belly, and I liked that they were available as a set, too. Aewol Hangeun ₩50,800

This is what we ordered! A staff member came over and grilled the thick-cut pork for us. It was so nice to be able to eat comfortably.

As it browned on the grill, the outside became appetizingly crisp, and when I took a bite, the inside was full of moist juices. The more I chewed, the more I could taste pork’s mild yet deep flavor. It also had just the right amount of springiness, making it fun to chew. Dipping the nicely grilled meat lightly in salt brought out its own flavor even more clearly, so I could eat it all the way through without it feeling greasy.

Overall, it was richly juicy and deeply savory without being greasy, so I kept reaching for more. Eating it with the various sauces gave every bite a different flavor, and I just kept eating.

With the ssam vegetables and accompanying sides, it was a clean and refreshing meal.

Seongsan Jejutgan also provides free ice cream for dessert, so I recommend having one after your meat~
Jeonju black pork with a Jeju vibe
Seongsan Jejutgan in Jeonju Sin-sigaeji is a great place to enjoy delicious pork while taking in a Jeju-style atmosphere. The Jeju-inspired interior made me feel as though I was traveling while I ate, and the rich juices in the thick-cut meat were so delicious. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for tasty black pork in Jeonju!
