Jeonju Korean restaurant with chicken noodles: Eonyang Dak Kalguksu
In short
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songcheon-dong Eco City Branch is a Korean restaurant in Songcheon-dong, Jeonju, serving warm chicken kalguksu. I adjusted the seasoned chicken-bone and perilla-seed broth with unseasoned broth, and paired it with spicy Silbi kimchi and chewy dumplings. Verdict: a comfortable, filling choice for a family meal.

As mornings and evenings start getting a little cooler like they have lately, you know how you begin craving warm soup dishes. Kalguksu is always nice, but chicken kalguksu loaded with chicken too? It sounded like such a hearty meal, so I went to try it.

It is easy enough to reach from both Songcheon-dong and Eco City, and I think it is also worth keeping in mind for anyone looking for good places to eat near Jeonbuk National University Hospital, Hoseong-dong in Jeonju, or Jeonju Zoo.
A convenient first impression, thanks to the parking lot
When I go to a restaurant, parking matters to me just as much as the food. If I track down a supposedly great restaurant only to circle the neighborhood several times looking for a space, I am exhausted before I even eat. Eonyang Dak Kalguksu has parking spaces out front, so I was able to park fairly easily when I visited.
Before my visit, I had seen that there was dedicated parking in front of the restaurant.
A clean, calm interior
As soon as I walked in, the first impression was that everything was very clean.

When you think of a kalguksu place, you might picture something a little rustic and homey. But this one was neatly kept throughout, with a clean interior, so it did not feel at all awkward to come for a meal with family.

Most of all, the staff were kind, which made the whole meal pleasant. What I personally remember most was the soft sound of gayageum, a traditional Korean zither, playing inside the restaurant. Listening to the calm gayageum music while eating warm chicken kalguksu suited the atmosphere better than I expected.

Rather than feeling like a place where you rush in, eat noisily, and leave, it felt nice to sit comfortably and enjoy the meal.
I thought it only had chicken kalguksu, but the menu is varied
Because the name is Eonyang Dak Kalguksu, I initially assumed it was simply a restaurant centered on chicken kalguksu. But when I looked over the menu, there were more chicken dishes than I expected, so it seemed easy to choose according to your taste.

Along with chicken kalguksu, there were several choices including Eonyang-style kalguksu, spicy chicken kalguksu, chicken feet, and braised chicken.

With choices ranging from the standard chicken kalguksu to spicy dishes, it looked like a good option even for a group, since everyone could pick something to suit their own taste.

If you like spice, try the Silbi kimchi!
The basic side dishes came out too, and the one that caught my eye most was the Silbi kimchi.

It looked spicy, and sure enough, the heat really hit my mouth. But it also had that strangely addictive flavor that keeps calling your chopsticks back, haha. If you do not handle spicy food well, I recommend having it little by little. On the other hand, if you usually enjoy spicy kimchi or Silbi kimchi, I think you will really like alternating a bite of chicken kalguksu with a bite of Silbi kimchi.
A review I saw also described it as house-made Silbi kimchi, saying that its clean, spicy flavor went well with the chicken kalguksu.
Warm chicken kalguksu, with seasoning adjustment available
At last, the chicken kalguksu I had been waiting for arrived. With chicken and noodles in the steaming broth, it looked like a proper, satisfying meal from the start.

Eating the broth, noodles, and chicken together was filling and warming—just right for cool weather. There was one more thing I liked, too. Everyone perceives seasoning differently, after all.

The dish comes seasoned as standard, but if needed, you can ask for a separate serving of unseasoned broth and adjust it to your own taste.

The staff explained even this detail, so I could eat more comfortably. The kalguksu came seasoned, with chicken-bone broth and perilla seeds, and I enjoyed it as it was.

There was also a notice saying that you can request extra unseasoned broth if it tastes too salty.
Why are the dumplings so chewy?
And then there were the dumplings I had with the chicken kalguksu!

These dumplings stayed with me more than I expected. With one bite, I was amazed at how wonderfully chewy the wrappers were! They went nicely with the kalguksu, and I liked the texture so much that I found myself thinking, “I want more dumplings~” haha.
My husband and children gave them a thumbs-up too, saying the chewy dumpling wrappers and generously filled centers made them even better. So I guess it was not just me who felt that way.

If ordering only chicken kalguksu feels a little incomplete, I recommend adding the dumplings too.
For a filling meal in Songcheon-dong, Jeonju
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Songcheon-dong Eco City Branch was fairly easy to park at, had a clean interior, and had kind staff, so overall I left after a very pleasant meal.
There are plenty of chicken-based menu options beyond chicken kalguksu, and the Silbi kimchi is a special treat for spice lovers! Adding the chewy dumplings made the meal quite filling. The gentle gayageum music I heard while eating also lingered in my memory.
Rather than a meal you dash through alone, I thought it would be a nice place to bring your parents or family for warm food. If you are looking for a good place to eat in Songcheon-dong, Jeonju, or craving a warm soup dish near Eco City, it may be worth a visit. If you are looking for somewhere nearby to eat, keep it in mind when searching for restaurants near Jeonbuk National University Hospital, Hoseong-dong in Jeonju, or Jeonju Zoo too.
I think I will crave its steaming chicken kalguksu broth even more once the weather gets a little colder. :)
