Jeonju Hanok Village dakgangjeong shop for family sharing: Mannyeon

My family really loves dakgangjeong (Korean sweet-spicy fried chicken) in general.

We order it at home fairly often, and whenever a fried chicken place has dakgangjeong on the menu, we always end up ordering it.

This time we were in Jeonju's famous Hanok Village and heard that Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store was really good, so we couldn't just walk past.

This visit was through a sponsored campaign, but I'll write honestly about what I actually tasted.

A proper meal like bibimbap or hanjeongsik (Korean table d'hote) is great, but you can't skip snacking your way through the alleys either. Especially with kids, picking out one treat after another is half the fun.

It's also on a convenient route for grabbing takeout after looking around Gyeonggijeon or Jeondong Cathedral — I get why so many travelers stop here.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong menu: which flavors can you choose?

One thing I liked about Mannyeon Dakgangjeong was how many menu choices there were.

Besides dakgangjeong, there's shrimp gangjeong and a dakgangjeong+shrimp gangjeong combo, and flavors range from mild, spicy, soy sauce, to plain fried, so you can pick to taste.

If one flavor alone feels limiting, you can go half-and-half, which seemed good for families too.

There are also sides like sotteok-sotteok (rice cake and sausage skewers), cheese balls, and fried jjondeugi — next time I want to order a bunch together.

A large boneless spicy dakgangjeong that vanished fast

We packed the boneless Mannyeon Dakgangjeong in a generous large size to share with family. When we first opened it, I thought, "this should be plenty," but nope, haha. As soon as the lid came off and everyone started grabbing a piece or two, it disappeared in a flash.

Classic behavior from a dakgangjeong-loving family like ours.^^ Above all, the sauce really suited my taste. Dakgangjeong sauce can be too sweet or sticky and get tiring after a few pieces, but this one kept me reaching for more. Sweet, salty, clingy sauce plus a savory fried crunch — you eat one and reach for another! Saying "okay, that's enough" and then reaching for more anyway might just be the charm of dakgangjeong.

How well does Mannyeon Dakgangjeong hold up as takeout?

Dakgangjeong is great fresh, but when you're traveling, taking it back to your accommodation or home is common too. For reference, if you seal packed dakgangjeong tightly while it's still hot, the steam can make it soggy, so it's good to let it vent a bit while carrying it, following the instructions.

With the whole family eating together, even the large size went fast. Being boneless made it easy for both kids and adults to pick up piece by piece. Some reviews I'd checked beforehand mentioned it stayed crispy even after cooling, so I can see why people pack it from the hanok village to enjoy as a late-night snack at their lodging.

Would this dakgangjeong go well with beer?

Eating it, I naturally started craving beer. Sweet-salty seasoned dakgangjeong with a cold beer would be perfect as a late-night snack.

Next time, I want to walk around the hanok village in the evening, pack some dakgangjeong to bring home, and enjoy it with my husband over cold beer.

Would I order Mannyeon Dakgangjeong again in Jeonju Hanok Village?

Jeonju Hanok Village has so many famous Jeonju street foods that it's always a struggle deciding what to eat each visit. This time, Mannyeon Dakgangjeong suited our family's taste perfectly, so it's become a menu I want to pack again next time we're at the hanok village.

Especially if your family likes dakgangjeong, packing one large size to share among several people works well. We thought the amount was a lot too, but before we knew it, the family had picked it clean, haha. I liked that the sauce never got tiring, and being boneless made it easy to eat too.

Next time I want to order a different flavor half-and-half and try the sides too.
