Black vinegar guobaorou at a Gyeongan-dong lamb skewer spot: Sinbaegok
In short
Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch is a lamb skewer and Chinese restaurant on the second floor of a building in Gyeongan-dong, Gwangju, Gyeonggi. Two sisters shared charcoal-grilled lamb skewers, three-color guobaorou (sweet-and-sour fried pork) in original, spicy and black vinegar-squid ink, and iced black tea, and the lamb had no gamey smell while the tangy, crisp black vinegar version stood out most. With free non-alcoholic beer for pregnant guests and a 10% discount for soldiers, police and firefighters, Sinbaegok is worth a 200% return visit.

Today I'm bringing you a real, no-holds-barred review of the time my sister and I went full send on lamb skewers. We're a family of lamb skewer lovers already, but this Gyeongan-dong spot, Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch, completely won us over — not just with the quality of the meat but with a 'three-color guobaorou' (Chinese sweet and sour pork) I'd genuinely never seen before. The second I walked in and saw regulars chatting warmly with the owner, I understood why — this is peak friendly-owner energy at a Gwangju, Gyeonggi lamb skewer restaurant. Let me introduce it right now!
Sinbaegok Gyeongan Branch at a glance: what to order and know
- Address: 경기 광주시 광주대로55번길 7 2층 (7 Gwangju-daero 55beon-gil, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, 2nd floor)
- Hours: Mon–Fri (17:00–02:00), Sat (15:00–02:00), Sun (12:00–22:00), closed every Tuesday
- Signature menu: you have to order the 'three-color guobaorou' — original, spicy, and black vinegar-squid ink flavors all at once. (The black vinegar one is stupidly good!)
- Touching perks: free non-alcoholic beer for pregnant guests, 10% discount for soldiers/police/firefighters — the owner's warmth really shines at this Gwangju, Gyeonggi restaurant.
- Spicy pairing tip: the spicy guobaorou is nearly as hot as buldak (fire noodles)! Take a sip of the 'iced black tea' right after and it's absolute paradise.
What does the second-floor Gyeongan-dong restaurant look like?
Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch is on the 2nd floor in downtown Gyeongan-dong, and even the stairway up is flashy haha. What really touched me was the waiting policy sign — depending on how long you wait, they give you everything from Chinese soda to 5 free lamb skewers. Talk about generous! I cracked up in front of the neon sign inside that read 'I can't buy you Chanel, but I can buy you lamb skewers' haha. The vibe is so good it's perfect for a date in Gwangju, Gyeonggi or if you're looking for bars in Gyeongan-dong.
Self-serve bar and discounts for pregnant guests, soldiers, police and firefighters

We sat down and looked at the menu, and I was genuinely surprised — there's a special perk menu just for pregnant guests, soldiers, police, and firefighters! Little details like this really show the owner's warmth.

Plenty of alcohol options too, and even Pororo drinks for the kids — a Gwangju, Gyeonggi restaurant that anyone, any age, can enjoy haha.

The utensil holder was so clean!! I appreciated the paper cups too haha. And they even have hair ties on hand — what a nice touch, whoa. Details like this really get me ㅠㅠ. The self-serve bar was spotless too — not a single sauce drip anywhere — so full marks on hygiene.

Make sure to check the Chuseok holiday hours!! They're also running a nostalgic lucky-draw event and a review event, so be sure to join in!
Charcoal-grilled lamb skewers: is there any gamey smell?
The lamb skewers at Sinbaegok Yang Kkochi Gyeongan Branch are grilled right over high-heat charcoal. The meat was so fresh there was zero unpleasant gamey smell that lamb can sometimes have.

The basic side dishes were set out haha. That jjajangmyeon-style pickled radish and peanuts over there are perfect for snacking on while we waited hahaha. Those nutty, salty peanuts are seriously addictive.
Aaaargh charcoal setup complete!!! Bring on the lamb skewers!
Hahahahaha this one brought over a mountain of lamb skewers hahaha, I burst out laughing hahaha. She also brought scissors, tongs, and a ladle.
Loaded and ready 🤤🤤
My prey, hard at work grilling haha.
They grilled slowly, spinning over the strong charcoal heat, and because the meat was so fresh there was absolutely no unpleasant gamey lamb smell. Once cooked and dipped generously in the spice mix, the juices practically explode. Skewering whole garlic cloves alongside and grilling them together is amazing too.
Three-color guobaorou with iced black tea

And here's the true star that made me write this whole post! The 'three-color guobaorou.' It comes in original, spicy, and black vinegar-squid ink flavors, and just the look of it is wild, right? All three have distinct charm, but my personal favorite is hands-down the black one — the 'black vinegar' flavor! One bite and it's crispy, then the sweet-and-sour hits your mouth like a wave — my sister and I locked eyes and just started clapping haha. The black vinegar's tang perfectly cuts through the lamb's richness.

The red spicy version was, to me, hotter than Shin Ramyun — practically buldak-level fiery and tingling! And right as your lips start to go numb, a sip of the sweet 'iced black tea'? Yep, that's paradise right there. Among the lamb skewer places in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, this one's food game feels like number one.
Empty plates: how much did two sisters finish?

One photo says it all, right? We were so full we thought we'd burst, yet we scraped up even the sauce. Watching the owner make the rounds, chatting warmly with regulars, was really nice to see — and after trying it myself, I get exactly why they have so many.

On the way out after paying, there were old-school snacks and coffee for dessert — a perfectly complete course!
Final verdict on Sinbaegok in Gyeongan-dong
- Taste & quality: the lamb skewers are savory with zero gamey smell as a baseline! The three-color guobaorou, combining tangy-crispy black vinegar with fiery spice, is this place's irreplaceable signature.
- Atmosphere & service: the owner's kindness, a meticulously clean self-serve bar, and perks for uniformed workers and pregnant guests — this Gyeongan-dong restaurant warms your heart too.
- Revisit intent: 200%, no question! Next time I want to bring a bigger group of friends, make it our Gwangju, Gyeonggi get-together spot, and work through the rest of the Chinese dishes on the menu.
