Upscale interior mood at Haenyeo Sotbap

I visited on a weekday for lunch and the place was already packed — clearly a popular Korean restaurant in Suseong-gu. The interior is spacious and clean, with a really upscale feel throughout. I thought it would work well as a family dinner spot or a group gathering place in Daegu.

The inner section has a totally different mood. The tables are spaced far apart and the ceilings are high, so it never feels cramped or noisy.

Private room seating at Haenyeo Sotbap

This place is popular enough to have a wait during meal times! I visited on a weekday right before lunch, so I got in without waiting at all. Just so you know, group bookings for 40 or more are also possible.

There's a room-style layout too, which makes it a great spot for a more private meal.

What's on the menu at Haenyeo Sotbap?

This is the menu at Haenyeo Sotbap, a Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake. Since it's known for sotbap (stone-pot rice), the headliners are abalone sotbap, eel sotbap, and bulgogi sotbap. There's also a wide range beyond that — seafood stew, ttukbaegi (earthenware pot dishes), braised short ribs, abalone porridge and more, so there's plenty to choose from. If picking is too hard, the signature set menus for 2, 3, or 4 people are well put together and come at a special set price, which seemed like a great option too.

Here's the table spread that comes out after ordering — every single banchan (side dish) was seasoned just right and delicious.

From the fried mushrooms to the young radish kimchi, you could really taste the care put into every side dish. My parents ate and said it was genuinely delicious — so satisfying to see, haha.

One of the side dishes was grilled Spanish mackerel, topped with a sauce that seasoned the fish perfectly — so good. Honestly you could finish a whole bowl of rice with just the banchan alone,,><

Complimentary 2-piece abalone from a review event

This is the complimentary 2-piece abalone we got as part of a review event! The dipping sauce for the abalone seemed to be made from abalone innards — rich and deep, and absolutely delicious.

Lid removed from the green tea eel sotbap

The green tea eel sotbap, 23,000 won. The moment the lid came off, I audibly gasped — the eel sotbap looked incredible. The eel, well-coated in sauce, looked so appetizing.

I tried the eel on its own and it just melted in my mouth. From the neat, clean presentation to the flavor, it was so satisfying that I'd highly recommend taking your family here for a meal out.

The rice underneath has a subtle green tea base — the savory eel flavor and the faint green tea aroma came through together, making it feel like the perfect healthy meal.

Jeju abalone porridge and Wando abalone sotbap, 20,000 and 23,000 won

Generous portion of Jeju abalone porridge

The Jeju abalone porridge, 20,000 won. This nutrient-packed porridge really let the savory flavor of the abalone innards come through — truly the real deal. The portion was generous too, so it felt like great value!!

Two whole abalones on top of the Wando abalone sotbap

The Wando-grown abalone sotbap, 23,000 won. Following the eel sotbap, here's the abalone version — it comes with two whole abalones! Once I cut into it, there was a surprising amount of abalone, haha. Mixed all together, the rice was chewy and just so tasty.

Dessert to finish the meal at Haenyeo Sotbap

Coffee and slushie served after the meal

Haenyeo Sotbap, a great restaurant near Suseong Lake, even lets you finish off the meal with coffee and a slushie for dessert. The neat presentation and the clean, mellow flavors were outstanding. I'd highly recommend this place for a family dinner or a group gathering :)
