Siheung meat restaurant revisit: pajeon bulgogi set for 2, Bulhyangjip

In short

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is a briquette-grilled meat restaurant in the Mulwang Reservoir local food village in Siheung, Gyeonggi. After a first visit in January 2026, this early-autumn return was a weekday lunch for two: the briquette pajeon bulgogi (scallion pancake bulgogi) set, served with bibim noodles (spicy cold noodles) and country grandma's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), plus a separately ordered steamed egg. The spread was so filling that the rice included in the set went untouched.

Back at Bulhyangjip by Mulwang Reservoir, this time in early autumn

Early autumn scenery around Mulwang Reservoir

In January 2026, when Mulwang Reservoir was frozen solid, I visited this Mulwang Reservoir favorite, the meat restaurant Bulhyangjip. I couldn't forget the taste of the meat I had that day, so now that it's early autumn, I've come back. The scenery around the reservoir has changed a lot since winter, but I was curious whether the flavor would be just as good the second time around.

Exterior and parking lot of Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch

Is parking easy at Bulhyangjip in the Mulwang-dong food village?

You know how tricky parking can be once you enter the Mulwang-dong traditional food village. On weekends or around mealtimes, the area gets packed with cars, and you'll even see staff directing parking outside each restaurant. But at this Siheung favorite, I didn't have to worry at all — there was plenty of parking space, so driving in was completely stress-free.

Briquettes stacked outside the restaurant

You might look at the briquettes piled up outside and think it's a bit of an eyesore. Not at all! Once you step inside this Mulwang Lake meat restaurant favorite, you immediately understand why they're there. It's the charcoal used to grill the meat just right, and that gives the whole place a distinctive charcoal-grill atmosphere. True to its name, Bulhyangjip ('fire aroma house') really does promise meat grilled over charcoal.

Entrance of Bulhyangjip

We're open! Walking into this Siheung meat restaurant, a warm, homely atmosphere greets you right away — the kind of cozy feeling only a charcoal-grill place has.

Pets are welcome too — just no large or dangerous breeds.

Seating at Bulhyangjip: central hall, group room and terrace view

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is divided into a central hall, a private group room, and a terrace-view hall with floor-to-ceiling windows. The first table catches your eye right at the entrance, with three pretty potted plants lined up as if welcoming guests. It's a simple touch, but that kind of small care makes the place feel even warmer.

The central hall

The central hall has wide wooden tables that give the whole space a warm, relaxed feel. The tables are spaced generously, so it looks comfortable for larger groups too. Each table has a tablet for checking the menu and ordering, which is convenient.

The private group room

Toward the back there's a private group room you can use on your own. A large window keeps it from feeling closed off, and it has a long wooden table plus hangers ready to use. It looks great for family gatherings or larger parties.

The terrace-view hall

The side with the big glass windows looks out over the outdoor lawn and greenery. The sunlight pours in nicely, so even sitting indoors feels like being outside. It's a great spot to enjoy the view while eating.

Baby chairs, self-serve aprons, hangers — everything you'd need is well prepared here. It's clear they've thought carefully about making it comfortable for families with kids.

Why briquettes are stacked at the door: 300 servings a day

I was curious what the briquettes I saw at the entrance were for, and it turned out to be obvious once inside — they're used for pre-grilling the meat. You can watch the meat being pre-grilled right in a corner of the restaurant, which was interesting to see. Since it's pre-grilled over charcoal, I was already looking forward to that smoky flavor before even tasting it. They only sell 300 servings a day.

It's apparently been featured on SBS's Live Today morning show, which made me even happier to be back — I remembered how good it was from before, and knowing it's a broadcast-featured favorite only raised my expectations further.

Ordering the pajeon bulgogi set on a weekday lunch for two

We visited on a weekday lunch as a group of two and ordered from the lunch menu. You can choose between scallion pancake bulgogi and gochujang bulgogi — we went with the scallion pancake bulgogi. The set also comes with bibim noodles included. Knowing we'd get both meat and noodles, I figured lunch would be plenty filling.

The basic side dishes came out first, and there were quite a few varieties once I looked closely. Knowing they're made in-house made them feel even more homely. They're good to pair with the meat, so I tried them one by one.

If you want more sides, there's a self-serve salad bar — it was kept clean.

Country grandma's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)

I also tried the country grandma's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) that comes as standard. It's made with traditional fermented soybean paste simmered until rich, and you really taste that deep, savory flavor. I took a spoonful before the meat arrived, and honestly, I love this kind of hearty doenjang jjigae. Even as a default side dish, it was good enough to make me crave rice.

Steamed egg, ordered separately

We ordered the steamed egg separately. It was fluffy and well-cooked, easy to scoop and eat. The seasoning wasn't too strong, so it paired nicely with the meat, and kids could probably eat it without any issue too. The portion was generous, good for nibbling on throughout the meal.

Bibim noodles included with the set

We also tried the bibim noodles that came with the set. The sauce is made from fermented vegetable stock, so it carries a mix of tangy, sweet, and spicy flavors all at once. Eating it alongside the meat cuts the richness and refreshes your palate. Apparently some people come here just for the bibim noodles rather than the meat, and having tasted it, I get why — we kept reaching for it even while eating the meat.

How does the briquette pajeon bulgogi taste?

Finally, the charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi we ordered arrived. Since it's pre-grilled over charcoal, there's a gentle smoky aroma to it.

Taking a bite, it's not just about the seasoning — the meat itself carries that charcoal aroma, and it's fantastic. Eaten with the shredded scallions, the flavors come together even better, and hot off the grill it's tender and delicious. True to the name Bulhyangjip, that subtle charcoal aroma in the pre-grilled meat really seems to be the restaurant's signature. The portion was good for two at a weekday lunch, and paired with the bibim noodles, the meat tasted even better.

Bowl of rice included with the set

Since it's a set menu, rice came included too. But between the meat, bibim noodles, doenjang jjigae, and steamed egg, we ended up fuller than expected. In the end, we couldn't even touch the rice. It's quite a filling spread for two at lunch.

On your way out, there's a coffee vending machine by the counter, good for a warm cup after the meal.

The counter also has candy and dental floss ready, along with a small potted plant and a signboard. These little touches feel like thoughtful consideration for guests.

Outdoor terrace tables under tree shade

Stepping outside, there's an outdoor terrace too, with tables set under tree shade — a nice place to sit and rest a while on a good-weather day.

Looking up, the sky was blue with white clouds drifting by. Between the good meal and the green scenery, I headed home feeling satisfied with the whole visit.
