Hwadamga is a Korean restaurant specializing in grilled meat and grilled fish set menus, located at 58 Nangnaegi-gil, Bongdam-eup, Hyohaeng-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00 and last order at 21:30. There's a dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant.

Today's post is an honest review of Hwadamga, a great Bongdam meat restaurant to visit when you want a hearty meal!

The exterior of Hwadamga had a modern vibe, and there's plenty of parking space in front, so no need to worry about that haha.

Walking inside, the open kitchen caught my eye right away? Looks like they pre-sear the meat there too, and since it's an open kitchen, you can see the hygiene at a glance — very reassuring!

We came without a reservation so there was a bit of a wait, which probably means it's a good sign, right? haha

Bongdam's Hwadamga apparently only uses Suhyangmi, a premium Hwaseong rice, for their rice. Since this is a set-menu restaurant, the quality of the rice really matters, right?

Inside Hwadamga: dining room and private rooms

Looking at the tables, the interior was clean overall with wood tones, giving off a comfortable vibe, and the tables were spaced generously apart, making it feel great for dining.

There are also private rooms available, which seems perfect for gatherings or family meals out!

Hwadamga menu and what we ordered

Bongdam's Hwadamga has a menu lineup that seems to satisfy everyone — bori-gulbi (dried yellow croaker) set, wood-fired mackerel set, wood-fired hairtail set, jeyuk (spicy stir-fried pork) set, suyuk (boiled pork) set, and more. They also serve pre-seared Korean pork belly, pre-seared diced pork neck, galmaegisal (skirt meat), hangjeongsal (pork jowl), Korean beef sirloin, mixed seafood platters — basically covering both beef and pork! If you're ever stuck on what to eat, visiting Hwadamga should solve that problem right away!

On this visit, we ordered two servings of pre-seared diced Korean pork neck, along with mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon.

What's on the self-serve side bar at Hwadamga

What stood out at Hwadamga was the self-serve bar! It was well stocked so you could help yourself to various side dishes and vegetables.

There was a wide variety of side dishes, all neatly and cleanly arranged, so great to pair with the meat! Oh, and if you order a set menu, you can mix barley rice yourself using ingredients from the self-serve bar haha. That seems like a pretty appealing feature for anyone coming for a full set-menu meal.

There was also seaweed soup, mini meat patties (dongkkatang), and japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), so it seems like a great place to visit with kids too.

They even had peach juice, mango juice, and coffee for dessert — such a nice touch!

How the pre-seared diced pork neck is grilled on the stone plate

Hwadamga's pre-seared diced Korean pork neck comes already partially cooked, so you just need to finish grilling it a bit more on the stone plate at your table. The neat side dishes came out first 🤍

Here's the pre-seared diced pork neck we ordered that day! You could tell right away the meat quality was excellent.

This is my first time seeing diced pork neck this glistening with fat!

Cabbage, mushrooms, bracken fern, cheongyang peppers, and green onion also came out to grill alongside the meat. And the grilled vegetables were so tasty too?!

Cut into bite-sized pieces, once it was almost fully cooked—

One bite with pickled onion, one bite wrapped in lettuce — mind-blowingly good! Since the pork neck was sliced thick, the outside cooked up nicely while the inside stayed moist, so biting in released a burst of juice! We also added Suhyangmi rice inside the wrap — it was sticky and sweet. So, so delicious…!

How big are Hwadamga's mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon portions?

We also ordered mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon at Hwadamga! Everyone, the portions are seriously huge!!

Even the naengmyeon was delicious — total win.. 🤍 The broth was on the milky side and the pear slices were big and generous, so it was really tasty! If you're having the meat, be sure to try the naengmyeon too! 💖
