Kid-friendly hoddeok and beer bar in Bongdam, Hwaseong: Homaek
In short
Homaek Hwaseongbongdam-jeom is a hoddeok (Korean sweet griddle pancake) and beer bar on the first floor of Mango Town in Bongdam, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. After an early dinner, the writer came with friends and children and ordered green onion cream cheese hoddeok, butter-grilled squid, peanuts, Dwaeji-bar flavored ice cream for the kids, and Kozel Dark on a 3+1 promotion. The dark beer served in a glass rimmed with plenty of cinnamon powder goes well with the hoddeok, and Homaek is an easy bar to visit with children.

Why we chose Homaek Hwaseongbongdam-jeom in Bongdam's Mango Town
Homaek Hwaseongbongdam-jeom is a hoddeok (sweet Korean pancake) and beer bar on the first floor of Bongdam Mango Town. The weather's gotten so much cooler lately and beer has been really calling my name. After an early dinner with friends, we were thinking of somewhere simple for beer and snacks, and ended up at this hoddeok-and-beer spot in Mango Town.

Homaek Hwaseongbongdam-jeom
I really love hoddeok so I used to go often when Homaek first opened, but I hadn't been able to go for a while since my second kid was little. It'd been a long time since my last visit, haha^^

Homaek's menu and the Kozel Dark 3+1 promotion
The menu board out front and the Kozel Dark 3+1 sign catch your eye right away. Taking a quick look at the menu, since it's a hoddeok-and-beer place there are several kinds of hoddeok, and then everything from dry snacks to tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), pasta, soups, and ice cream — really such a wide range of menu items. Good to know there's plenty for kids to eat too!

What is the bar like inside?
The interior at Homaek Hwaseongbongdam-jeom has a Western feel to it, and with the decor pieces and lighting scattered around, it was a pretty spot for photos too. Slightly dim, vintage vibe — love it!

And when I go to a bar, the first thing I check is hygiene, I think. This Bongdam bar, Homaek, is always so clean and tidy whenever I visit — I really like that about it.

What we ordered: green onion cream cheese hoddeok, dried snacks and ice cream
You order at this Bongdam bar Homaek via kiosk. There are a whopping 8 kinds of hoddeok, so it took a while to choose. Since we'd just had a light dinner and didn't want to get too full, I picked the green onion cream cheese hoddeok. For dry snacks we got butter squid skewers and peanuts, plus a Sherbet-flavored ice cream for the kids. For drinks, we went with the Kozel Dark 3+1 promotion.

Kozel Dark served in a glass heaped with cinnamon powder
They brought the beer right after we ordered, and gave it to us in a chilled glass with cinnamon powder piled generously on the rim. Whenever I've had Kozel Dark at other beer places the cinnamon always felt skimpy, but at Homaek they pile it on so thick you can enjoy that sweetness all the way through the bottle.

Poured it out nice and cold, glug glug glug. The glass is pretty and cold itself, so pouring beer into it feels even more refreshing — beer's tastiest the colder it is!

Cheers with the four of us at this Bongdam bar, Homaek!★ I like regular draft beer too, but dark beer is really nice for drinking without feeling too full. Paired with the cinnamon powder it almost feels like you're eating a snack even without one, so I took a sip and waited for the food.

Why green onion cream cheese was the best of Homaek's 8 hoddeok flavors
A few sips into the beer, the green onion cream cheese hoddeok I'd been waiting for arrived, so I cut it into 8 pieces like a pizza. I've also tried the cheese bulgogi, apple cinnamon, and red bean sugar hoddeok at this Bongdam bar, Homaek, but personally the green onion cream cheese was the tastiest. Just the right amount of cheesy richness, sweet-and-salty, with a subtle green onion aroma coming through too — such a great beer snack! ★Exactly my taste★

The Dwaeji-bar flavored ice cream the kids were waiting for
The Sherbet-flavored ice cream the kids were waiting for came out too — sweet, and one bite gave a proper sugar rush. The moment they picked up their spoons it disappeared in a flash, haha. It was really nice that there were so many menu options the kids could enjoy too.

Butter-grilled squid, the dried snack to order
Top of the top among dry snacks — squid, which I love! Really plump and salty, so good. Why does it never taste like this when I grill it at home?

Were both kids and adults happy at Homaek?
My second kid, the squid bandit... knows what's good and kept shoving it into her mouth, haha. Both the adults and the kids were all satisfied at this Bongdam bar, Homaek~ I remember the highball being good too, so next time I'll come back for that^^
