Suwon Hommaesil doenjang hot pot without chili for kids: Ok Doenjang
In short
Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch is a doenjang (fermented soybean paste) hot pot and boiled pork restaurant on Geumgok-ro in the Hommaesil area of Suwon, Gyeonggi. The beef pork belly doenjang hot pot costs 13,900 won per person and was ordered without chili or chili powder so a child could share it, served with the complimentary tasting portion of kimchi jjim (braised kimchi) and gim (seaweed), plus squid muchim (spicy seasoned squid) for the adults. Because the kitchen adjusts the spice level on request, Ok Doenjang works well when kids and adults want different dishes at one table.

When you're having lunch with a kid in Hommaesil, you end up looking for a place with a non-spicy option, right?
At Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch, I ordered the beef pork belly doenjang hot pot with the chili and chili powder left out, and shared it with my kid.
I've put together a review covering the basic side dishes — kimchi jjim (braised kimchi) and gim (seaweed) — plus the squid muchim (spicy seasoned squid) we ordered separately, along with hours and menu prices.

What we ordered for lunch at Ok Doenjang
The main dish we ordered this time was the beef pork belly doenjang hot pot.
The beef pork belly doenjang hot pot is ₩13,900 per serving and comes with a sample of kimchi jjim on the side. Since we were sharing with a kid, I asked them to leave out the chili and chili powder when ordering.
- Beef pork belly doenjang hot pot: ₩13,900 per serving
- Includes: doenjang hot pot + sample kimchi jjim
- This order: requested no chili / chili powder
Cooking it without chili and chili powder cut down on the sharp spicy kick and made it milder, which worked well for eating with my kid.

Can the doenjang hot pot be made mild for a child?
Since the doenjang hot pot I ordered can be made without spicy ingredients on request, it was easy to share one dish with my kid.
In particular, having broth and beef together made it easy to pair with rice. That said, what seasoning or ingredients are suitable for a child depends on their age and usual eating habits, so it's worth checking whether spicy ingredients can be left out when ordering.
The flavor of a dish cooked with a special request can differ from the standard version served in the restaurant. If you're visiting with a kid, one option is to ask upfront to leave out the chili and chili powder.

What side dishes come with the meal?
The basic side dishes included seasoned tendon (seuji) muchim, along with a sample of kimchi jjim and gim.
The kimchi jjim paired well with rice, and I kept reaching for the gim too. I liked the gim so much that I ordered more and took the leftovers home.
Ok Doenjang also has a menu where kimchi jjim is the main dish. The single kimchi jjim set comes with 500g of kimchi jjim, one pack of 'mom's gim,' and a bowl of rice, priced at ₩14,300.
- Single kimchi jjim set: ₩14,300
- Includes: kimchi jjim 500g + gim 1 pack + rice
If you're having lunch alone rather than the doenjang hot pot, this is a solo-menu option worth considering.

How was the squid muchim?
We also ordered squid muchim alongside the doenjang hot pot, and eating it with minari (water dropwort) gave it a refreshing yet spicy flavor that worked really well.
It had a different flavor direction from the mild doenjang hot pot, so it was good to alternate between the two. The combination of doenjang hot pot for the kid and squid muchim as an adult side dish worked out well.
Spice levels can vary by dish, so if you're not great with spicy food, it's worth checking before you order.

Other signature dishes on the Ok Doenjang menu
Besides doenjang hot pot, Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch also serves boiled pork hot pot and oxtail hot pot.
The mixed boiled pork hot pot includes shank, beef short ribs, seuji (tendon), minari, and glass noodles, with the price varying by size.

- Oxtail hot pot, large 900g: ₩99,000
- Beef and squid stir-fry, medium: ₩27,000
