Seomyeon gukbap restaurant, three rib bowls compared: Gang Galbitang

Today I want to write about my visit to Gang Galbitang in Seomyeon, Busan.

Eating around Seomyeon, sometimes you just crave a warm, filling bowl like gukbap (rice soup) or galbitang (short rib soup). This time I visited Gang Galbitang Seomyeon, which serves galbitang as its base menu along with galbi gukbap, spicy galbi gukbap, and galbi noodles.

I'll walk through everything I ate and the overall vibe of the place.

Where is Gang Galbitang Seomyeon, and where do you park?

Gang Galbitang is located at 1F, 33 Saessak-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan. Coming out of exit 11 of Seomyeon Station and walking a bit toward Citizens Park, you'll find it.

If you're driving, it's worth checking parking ahead of time. You can use the Blue Parking lot near the restaurant, and if you spend over ₩20,000 on your meal, you get a 30-minute parking discount.

Parking isn't easy in Seomyeon in general, so this is worth keeping in mind if you're coming by car.

What the Gang Galbitang storefront looks like

After parking, I headed toward the restaurant.

The exterior was fairly clean, and there was signage near the entrance showing the menu.

Even on a first visit, you can tell at a glance what kind of menu they serve.

Inside Gang Galbitang: seating and solo tables

Inside, everything was neatly arranged. Besides table seating, there were also seats good for eating alone, so it seemed like a fine spot to visit solo.

The menu was neatly displayed on the wall, and the overall atmosphere felt like a comfortable Korean restaurant.

It seemed like a low-pressure option if you're eating alone or just want a quick meal in Seomyeon.

The self-bar at Gang Galbitang

Inside Gang Galbitang there's a self-bar set up. It was convenient — you can help yourself to more side dishes whenever you run low.

When you're eating gukbap or galbitang, you often want more kkakdugi (radish kimchi) or other side dishes, so having a self-bar to grab more from was a nice touch.

There was also a coffee station on one side, good for a quick after-meal drink.

What's on the menu at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon

Gang Galbitang's menu is built around galbitang as the base, with a range of variations.

The main options are

• Gang Galbi Gukbap

• Gang Galbi Noodles

and there are also things like beef shank suyuk (boiled sliced beef) and extra sari (noodle add-ons) and meat you can add on.

Rather than selling just one galbitang, they offer everything from rice-based gukbap to galbi noodles for noodle lovers, so you can pick according to your mood.

The three bowls ordered on this visit

This time, to try several menus together, we ordered galbi gukbap, spicy galbi gukbap, and galbi noodles.

I was curious how differently the same ribs would come across in a rice-based gukbap, a spicy broth, and a noodle dish. After a short wait, the dishes came out one by one.

Galbi gukbap (rib soup with rice)

First, the galbi gukbap. Served hot in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), it looked filling just by sight.

With ribs in the broth and rice on the side, it made a well-rounded single meal.

The ribs turned out to be quite tender,

and the broth carried the flavor of the ribs nicely for mixing with rice.

There's something about gukbap where the rice and broth together make the dish.

Mixing the rice into the warm broth with the ribs made for a plenty filling meal.

Spicy galbi gukbap

Next was the spicy galbi gukbap. The broth color was clearly different from the regular version — the red broth looked spicy just from appearance.

If the regular galbi gukbap has a mild broth, think of the spicy version as that same base with extra heat added.

People's taste can go either way here — some prefer the clean, mild flavor while others prefer the spicy broth. It was nice that both options are available so everyone can choose their style.

Galbi noodles

Last was the galbi noodles I tried. Galbi noodles let you enjoy ribs and noodles together, giving a different feel from the gukbap options.

The hot rib broth went well with the noodles. If you're a noodle lover, this could be a good pick instead of galbitang or galbi gukbap.

With ribs included, it's heartier than plain noodles, and with the broth on top, it was plenty for a full meal.

Which of the three bowls should you order?

Trying all three together, each had its own charm. Galbi gukbap is great for a filling meal with rice, spicy galbi gukbap suits those who like a kick, and galbi noodles suit those who prefer noodles over rice.

In the end, it's less about which one is better and more about what you're in the mood for that day.

The rich, deep broth, tender ribs, and generous portions made for a satisfying meal, and it was easy to bring kids along too.
