Highchair and partition booth seats at a Paju Chinese restaurant

In short

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a newly opened stone-plate Chinese restaurant on Dolgoji-gil by Simhaksan in Paju, Gyeonggi. Visiting with a child, the writer took a partitioned table with a highchair and ordered the Stone Jajang (large) and donchitang (pork cutlet soup) set, then used the self-serve corner with unlimited rice and green onion kimchi and finished with the rice crackers and yogurt. The hot stone plate keeps the noodles warm to the last bite, and scraping up the leftover nurungji (crisped rice) rounds out a filling meal.

We're a family that really loves jajangmyeon (black bean noodles)!!! When we heard that a new Dolpanseok Jjamppong had opened near Simhaksan, we rushed right over 🤗 The portions were so generous that we left completely, deliciously full haha!!

Where is Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch, and what are its hours?

If you pass by the Simhaksan area in Paju, you'll spot Dolpanseok Jjamppong's clean-looking exterior 😊 Since it's a recently opened spot, the whole place had a fresh, tidy feel, and the menu board set up at the entrance had some eye-catching items right away haha!! 👀

Highchairs and partition seats: easy with a child

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch has baby chairs and wide table spacing, so it was comfortable to visit with our child. Stepping inside, it really had that freshly-opened vibe — so clean! Lots of tables, and generously spaced too~! (And baby chairs, too!)

And there are slight partitions between tables, so it's fine for family meals, and even when we visited as a couple, the cozy booth-style tables were really nice. If you're looking for a good date spot in Paju, this could be worth checking out too!

What we ordered: Stone Jajang (large) + Donchitang SET

What we ordered was the Stone Jajang (large) + Donchitang SET! We were curious about the jjamppong too, but since we had our baby with us that day, we decided to try the jajang first.

Self-serve corner with unlimited rice refills

Oh, and there's a self-serve corner where rice is unlimited!! You know how when you're eating Chinese food, the jajang sauce is so good you want to mix it with rice? Well, since rice is unlimited, we could just grab as much as we wanted without any hesitation. Mixing rice with the jajang sauce or jjamppong broth is honestly so good haha!!

Why the stone-plate jajang stays hot to the last bite

The stone-plate jajang has arrived! Just like in the menu photo, it comes out piled generously onto a hot stone plate, and the visual alone got a 'wow' out of us. You could tell right away the portion was huge.

Since it doesn't come in a regular bowl but on a stone plate, it definitely felt different. Best of all, the food didn't get cold while we were eating! With regular jajangmyeon or stir-fried dishes, they usually cool down quickly and by the end it can be a bit of a letdown — but since this comes on a stone plate, we could eat it warm all the way through, which was great 👍🏻❤️👍🏻 Eating slowly with my husband and our first child, it stayed warm right to the last bite, which I really appreciated 😊

Jajang sauce and noodles bubbling on the stone plate

At first, just the visual of it bubbling away on the hot stone looked delicious, and it really was once we tried it!! Mixing the noodles well with the jajang sauce, you could taste the nutty, rich flavor typical of jajang, with the sauce soaked moistly into the noodles giving a savory hit first, followed by a subtle sweetness that lingers. It's not overly sweet — more nutty, salty, and savory — so we kept eating without getting tired of it.

The stone jajang wasn't just noodles — it came loaded with shrimp, squid, quail eggs, and more, so it was fun to pick through the different ingredients 🦐🦑🥚 The jajang sauce coated everything evenly, so a bite of noodles with a shrimp or piece of squid on top was really delicious.

Green onion kimchi served alongside the stone jajang

Green onion kimchi with the noodles, and the nurungji at the end

Personally, I loved pairing the stone jajang with green onion kimchi. The sharp, refreshing taste of the kimchi made everything feel cleaner in the mouth! Wrapping a bite of noodles around some kimchi and eating them together worked surprisingly well 🤭

And after finishing the stone-plate jajangmyeon, the long-awaited nurungji (scorched rice) was left behind!! Haha, scraping up the bits stuck to the stone plate gave us this nutty, crispy nurungji, and eating that too left us completely full 🤣 Finishing off jajangmyeon with a scrape of nurungji at the end — now that's a proper meal!!!

Donchitang, the soup that comes with the set

The donchitang that came with the set was also really good!

The pork was crispy on the outside but genuinely soft and moist on the inside. The sweet-and-salty sauce paired perfectly with it, and it was really tasty. Alternating between bites of jajangmyeon and donchitang really changed things up nicely.

And the chitang (sweet fried chicken) that came alongside it was also delicious!! Haha, my husband especially loved it! Donchitang (pork) and chitang (chicken) are prepared fresh that same day and cooked to order. It's a day-limited menu item, so make sure to try it!

What to order next time at Dolpanseok Jjamppong

This time we had the stone jajang, but looking at the menu board, there were some things I made a mental note to try next time. Jjamppong, for one! Given the restaurant's name — Dolpanseok Jjamppong — I was curious about the jjamppong too haha. Next visit, I want to properly order and try the jjamppong. Also, while looking at the menu, one thing that caught my eye was the jajang topped with a whole squid, which is totally my style 🤭 The visual of a whole squid on top already looked delicious, so I'm planning to try that next time too!

Free dessert after the meal: rice crackers and yogurt

After the meal, rice crackers and yogurt were also provided as dessert 🥹✨✨

Yogurt at the dessert corner

After eating a full meal, drinking a little yogurt was the perfect way to cleanse the palate haha. Little touches like this actually make a big difference in the mood 💕 Overall — food served on a stone plate that stays warm to the end, getting to try both the stone jajang and donchitang, unlimited rice, and even a yogurt to finish things off! It was a satisfying meal for a family visiting with a baby, like us.

We had the stone jajang this time, so next time I want to try the jjamppong, and I definitely want to work my way through the whole-squid jajang I was curious about too! If you're near Simhaksan in Paju looking for a warm, hearty Chinese meal, this newly opened Dolpanseok Jjamppong might be worth a visit 💛 Between the fun of eating sizzling food straight off the stone plate and scraping up the nurungji at the end, it was truly a satisfying meal 😋
