Today I want to introduce a pork rib restaurant I've been going to for a really long time — Gyesu Garden (계수가든). My family loves pork ribs so much we've tried all kinds of places, and this is the one we keep coming back to, haha. It's really close to Starfield City Bucheon too, so it's a great stop if you've been to Starfield and want good meat afterward. From the cozy old-school atmosphere to the charcoal-grilled pork ribs and LA galbi, Gyesu Garden was just as satisfying as ever even after not visiting for a while! Here's my review from this latest visit :)
Where is Gyesu Garden? One street from Starfield City Bucheon
Gyesu Garden's address is technically in Siheung, Gyeonggi, but it's close enough to Starfield City Bucheon that you only have to cross one street. So it's a great option for anyone at Bucheon Starfield looking for a place to eat. If you already know Gyesu Garden, you know it has this feel of a mountain lodge tucked deep in the hills. It's not easy to find restaurants with this kind of vibe anymore. It has a different charm from the flashy, sleek meat restaurants you see these days, and honestly I find this atmosphere even more endearing, haha. There really aren't many places that pull off this feel so well. It's an old pork rib restaurant that's been running at the same spot for a long time, and it's even been featured on a Korean TV food segment, so a lot of you might already know it.

As a garden-style meat restaurant, Gyesu Garden's exterior isn't grand or flashy at all. Honestly, I like it even more for that reason, haha. It really gives off a countryside house vibe! It's a different mood from the sleek meat restaurants you commonly see now, which kind of makes it feel like a hidden gem I want to keep to myself, haha. I really love this kind of warm, homey atmosphere.

Parking at Gyesu Garden: a free private lot
There's a dedicated parking lot, and it's a little special too, haha. It runs on a free system where you just park wherever doesn't get in the way of the trees! It's a different kind of freewheeling vibe from the neatly lined parking spots you see everywhere these days, and even this felt like part of Gyesu Garden's own charm, haha. That free-spirited energy is amazing!

Homegrown ssam lettuce leaves grown by the restaurant
One of the charms of Gyesu Garden is the lettuce wraps and greens they grow themselves. There's a vegetable patch right behind the parking lot where they grow their own produce. Little details like this really fit Gyesu Garden's warm, homey vibe. Knowing you're eating homegrown vegetables with your meat somehow makes it taste even better, haha.

Do you need a reservation? A Friday evening booking at Gyesu Garden
Since it was a Friday evening, we made a reservation ahead of time. Gyesu Garden is such a well-known restaurant that you should be prepared to wait on weekends. Still, since reservations are possible, I'd definitely recommend booking ahead if you're visiting on a weekend. If we hadn't reserved, we probably would have had to wait, haha. This place still has that popular-restaurant energy. Gyesu Garden had the feel of a spot many families visit for a meal out, and the tables were big with plenty of space, making it good for larger groups too. Most of all, one of the biggest strengths of this place is that every single staff member is kind! I notice it every time I come — the staff are so friendly it puts me in a good mood the whole meal.
Ordering the Gyesu Signature Set: pork ribs and LA galbi
We were seated at a table right up front and ordered from the tablet at the table. The set menus are the most popular at Gyesu Garden. The Gyesu Signature Set lets you try both pork ribs and LA galbi, plus it comes with a discount! We ordered it without a second thought. It's the perfect option when you want both pork ribs and LA galbi, haha.

The tidy self-serve bar at Gyesu Garden
The self-serve bar had lettuce wraps, pickled onions, kimchi, pickled radish, and more. You could freely take as much as you needed, and it was all neatly organized, which made it easy to use. I especially liked being able to grab plenty of lettuce wraps to go with the meat.

Side dishes at Gyesu Garden, including yangnyeom gejang (marinated raw crab)
The table filled up one by one with side dishes: pickled radish, wasabi-dressed white jelly mushroom, mung bean jelly salad, steamed egg, and kimchi — quite a variety. I tried each one, and honestly all the side dishes were delicious across the board. Before the meat even arrived, I was already picking up side dishes one after another, chopsticks moving fast, haha.

And then, seasoned raw crab shows up too, haha. Something this expensive as a basic side dish? Haha, thank you so much. It was so good I was picking at side dishes before the meat even arrived.

The charcoal grill is lit and ready
While we were sampling the side dishes, the charcoal was already set up. Now all that's left is to put the meat on! Once the charcoal fire came on, the anticipation for that delicious meat smell started building. Ready to grill! Time to really dig in, haha.

Tomato and ricotta salad at a Korean BBQ restaurant?
And then — surprise, a tomato ricotta cheese salad appears, haha. A salad like this at a meat restaurant? The service here is really something, haha. The refreshing tomato paired with ricotta cheese was great to eat lightly before diving into the meat. Really, really delicious.
- Gyesu Signature Set (pork ribs x2 + LA galbi x1)
- Extra pork ribs (1 serving)
- Doenjang stew + rice, 3 sets
- Mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup)

How do the pork ribs and LA galbi in the Gyesu Signature Set taste?
First up, the Gyesu Signature Set arrived! True to its old-school restaurant reputation, Gyesu Garden's meat quality is really trustworthy. They use good meat, so every visit is satisfying, haha. You can tell just by looking, right? The meat looked so good even before cooking that I wanted to throw it on the charcoal right away.
Pork ribs grilling over charcoal at Gyesu Garden
Now, finally, time to grill! That smell of pork ribs cooking really beats any other food, haha. For smell alone, it's number one... though honestly the taste is even more number one, haha. Up close, you could see the tight crosshatch cuts — it looked delicious even before grilling 🫶

A natural sweetness in the pork rib marinade
At Gyesu Garden, instead of artificial sweeteners, they use natural sweetness drawn from fruits and vegetables, and marinate the meat for over 5 hours. Maybe that's why the seasoning wasn't overly sharp and blended naturally with the meat. This flavor really feels unique to Gyesu Garden :)
My husband was hard at work with the tongs, haha. Seasoned meat can go from perfect to burnt black in a second if you look away, right? So he kept flipping it back and forth without stopping, haha. Watching it turn a nice golden brown made me want to take a bite right away. Grilling skill really matters for galbi, haha.

Pork ribs with a deep charcoal aroma
The moment you bite in, the charcoal aroma hits first, and the sweet marinade seeps out from between the meat as you chew. The seasoning wasn't just coating the surface — it had soaked all the way into the cuts, so the flavor kept building the more you chewed 👏👏 The meat itself was good, and combined with the charcoal aroma, it really felt like classic Gyesu Garden pork ribs.

Galbi is best eaten in a lettuce wrap
A perilla leaf as the base, a piece of meat on lettuce, then chili and garlic neatly added! The hot rib juices come through first, then the sharp bite of garlic cuts through the sweet marinade flavor. Ribs really are best wrapped 👍 I lost count of how many wraps I made, haha. With a piece of meat and plenty of lettuce packed in, I just kept reaching for more. In the end, we ended up ordering an extra serving of pork ribs, haha.
Next up: the LA galbi
Now it's LA galbi's turn! Once the long rib bones hit the grill, the marinade heated up and the surface turned glossy. The outside caramelized slightly into a mouthwatering coating, while the inside stayed juicy and moist. A visual that needs no explanation, haha. It has a different charm from the pork ribs, so I was glad we ordered the signature set to try both.

Free doenjang stew and rice with the meal
And here's another thing I really liked about Gyesu Garden! Doenjang stew and rice are provided free of charge for every person at the table. When you eat meat and want a full meal, the bill can add up fast with all the extras, but having doenjang stew and rice included as standard for everyone made it feel really solid value. We had a hearty meal that day with delicious pork ribs plus stew and rice, haha. With perks like this, it made an even more satisfying choice for a family meal out.

Mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) after the charcoal-grilled meat
Cold noodles after charcoal-grilled meat is basically the course, right? Haha. The moment the mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) with floating slush ice arrived, it looked refreshing just to look at 👍 The broth wasn't the artificial-tasting kind you sometimes get — it was genuinely clean, healthy-tasting, and refreshing. It did its job perfectly, cutting right through the rich, greasy flavor that had built up from all the meat.

A bite of galbi with the cold noodles
And then, the piece of rib we saved, together with the noodles! Cold, clean noodles paired with the sweet charcoal-grilled meat — opposite in both temperature and flavor, which made them go even better together. If you like pairing mul naengmyeon with pork ribs, make sure to save a few pieces ❤️ Finishing meat with noodles like this really is the best combo, haha.

A free dessert drink to finish at Gyesu Garden
Eating meat isn't the end at Gyesu Garden, haha. After you finish your meal, you can order a free dessert drink‼️ There was coffee along with a variety of other drinks, and we ordered 2 chocolate lattes and 1 fresh green grape juice. Our family, making sure to properly enjoy dessert after the meat, haha.
After the meal, we wrapped things up leisurely, sipping drinks in a space that felt like a garden café 💕 Instead of just eating meat and leaving right away, being able to enjoy dessert too meant we got to end things on a good note.
Why Gyesu Garden keeps its longtime regulars
Gyesu Garden gave us a nice reward after a hard week of work! From the cozy, old-school atmosphere to the homegrown lettuce wraps, the friendly staff, the generous side dishes, and the delicious charcoal pork ribs — there's a reason our family keeps coming back here for so long. It has a different charm from the flashy, sleek meat restaurants, so if you like this kind of atmosphere, you'll probably love it even more.
