Euljiro Japanese katsu restaurant: 6pm loin and fillet set, Hunta
In short
Hunta Euljiro is a black pork tonkatsu restaurant one minute on foot from Exit 1 of Euljiro-ipgu Station in Jung-gu, Seoul, opened by a cutlet shop that built its name in Kachisan. On a weekday at 6pm, a solo diner ordered the loin and fillet katsu set for 17,000 won and ate it with salt, gaban pepper and shichimi, alongside a spicy mushroom soup and scallion kimchi. With a long bar counter set aside for single diners, dinner alone at Hunta Euljiro felt completely comfortable.

I visited Hunta near Euljiro-ipgu Station around 6pm on a weekday for a solo dinner. Hunta was originally a famous cutlet shop in Kachisan, and now there's a new branch at Euljiro-ipgu!! Only 1 minute from the station, so the access is totally great.
What Hunta Euljiro looks like from the street

You can come in from this side, or you can enter through the main entrance of the Fastfive building and come through the inner corridor!

The place is so clean~~~

Solo bar seats at Hunta Euljiro: easy dinner alone
There's a separate long bar-style table for solo diners, which made eating alone super comfortable. You know that awkward feeling when you're eating alone? Like getting squeezed in between couples...haha But here, there are dedicated single seats, so I could eat with zero pressure, completely at ease. The vibe of the place was also really clean and tidy. Being a Japanese-style cutlet restaurant, it had a calm, neat mood, perfect for quietly eating alone.
What I ordered: black pork tonkatsu
What makes Hunta special is that they serve black pork tonkatsu! Since it's not something you can easily eat normally, I was even more excited.

Looking at the menu, I seriously debated ordering the limited-quantity sang-rosu katsu.... But I also love the tender fillet, hire katsu, so I ordered the mixed set!
Loin and fillet katsu set, 17,000 won

Ta-da, here it is A thick fillet piece and a loin piece with just the right amount of fat came out together! As for what's different about black pork tonkatsu, let me give my tasting notes. The black pork was really juicy! It has way more juice than regular pork, but it's not greasy fat — it's the pork's own good fat flavor, and I loved it so much T.T Every bite bursts with juice, but it's nutty rather than greasy, and I thought, "ah, so this is black pork."

The staff here explains it to you — there's a proper way to enjoy it tastefully. The sauces and sides come in quite a variety too.

Salt and gaban pepper, the combo Hunta Euljiro recommends
If you want to focus more on the pork's natural flavor, I recommend the salt + gaban pepper combo!! When it gets a bit too plain, sprinkle on some shichimi and you can taste a whole range of flavors. Since it's a fatty cut of meat, after all, it can get greasy and you can get tired of it, but with all these different combos provided, I could eat it all the way through without getting sick of it hahaha.
The doneness of the meat was truly perfect.....

Loin (rosu) vs fillet (hire): what's the difference?
The left is loin (rosu), the right is fillet (hire). Hire is lighter and more tender than rosu. I already prefer rosu in general, and at Hunta too, rosu was tastier hahaha. A clean, light meat~ but so juicy that it wasn't dry at all. If you like less fatty, moist cuts, hire is perfect for you! Rosu = juicy, rich flavor; hire = light, tender. Both were great quality since it's all black pork. I'm so glad I ordered the mix!

Spicy mushroom soup instead of miso soup
This was also quite the special item. Usually they give you miso soup, but this wasn't miso soup — it's a spicy soup packed with mushrooms? It was spicy so it was really good to eat. It felt like a nice palate cleanser.
Hunta Euljiro's kicker: scallion kimchi
As I kept mentioning, the side dishes and sauces were so varied, which was great T.T I think without these, it would've been too greasy to finish. There was also wasabi and mustard, which I love, hahaha And they even had the tonkatsu sauce we're all used to, so at the end I dipped it generously in sauce. And Hunta's real kicker is!!! this —

This is the first time I've seen scallion kimchi served at a tonkatsu restaurant lol lol lol lol But you know what? It was actually really good..... a twist.....hahaha Later I put it on white rice and ate it, and right when I was getting a bit tired of the meat, that spicy scallion kimchi gave my mouth such a refreshing feeling. I think this restaurant's kicker is the scallion kimchi.
Is dinner at Hunta Euljiro worth it?
- Hunta Euljiro = 1 minute from Euljiro-ipgu Station, great black pork tonkatsu spot for solo dining
- Separate solo-dining counter makes eating alone comfortable, clean and tidy atmosphere
- Black pork tonkatsu = rich in juice but not greasy
- Rosu (loin) = juicy, rich flavor / Hire (fillet) = light, tender
- Wide variety of side dishes and sauces makes for a satisfying meal
If you're looking for a good tonkatsu spot to eat alone in Euljiro, I recommend Hunta Euljiro. Black pork tonkatsu — a flavor I hadn't normally tried — made it even more special haha.
