Today I'm writing up a sushi review from near Osan Station. My husband and I went to Special Sushi Osan Branch on a weekday afternoon, just the two of us — our kid was at daycare, so it was a rare relaxed lunch. I love sushi and had this place bookmarked after searching for sushi restaurants near Osan Station, so I was excited to finally visit.

Where is Special Sushi Osan Branch, and what are its hours?

It's at 130 Seongho-daero, Unit 204, Osan-si, Gyeonggi-do, open daily 11:30–22:00 with a break time from 15:00–17:00.

We parked at the Unam public parking lot near the restaurant, about a 2–3 minute walk away, so it wasn't much of a hassle.

The first hour is free, and EVs get up to 2 hours free, so we didn't have to worry about parking costs.

Inside Special Sushi Osan Branch: seating and waiting time

Special Sushi Osan Branch is on the 2nd floor of the building. We went after the lunch rush, so luckily there was no wait and we got seated right away. I heard there can be a wait during busy hours, so keep that in mind.

Once inside, the restaurant felt bigger than I expected. The whole place was kept clean, so it felt pleasant to sit in.

Bar seats line the conveyor-belt sushi rail, and there are table seats across from them too. Once we sat down, a staff member kindly explained how everything worked.

Menu items not on the rail could be ordered separately through the tablet at each seat. It was nice that my husband and I could each order whatever we felt like eating. Pickled radish, wasabi, and ginger were set out at every seat, and they also brought us jangguk (Korean-style broth) — it was warm and tasty, so we refilled it several times.

Basic sushi plates at Special Sushi Osan Branch were a flat ₩1,890, special sushi plates were ₩3,000, and side dishes were priced separately. Given today's prices, ₩1,890 a plate really does feel like great value.

  • Aged kimchi flounder, flounder fin
  • Sea bream belly, swordfish belly
  • Tuna akami, shime saba (vinegared mackerel)
  • Tuna steak, freshwater eel

With such a wide variety, from sushi to side dishes, it was fun picking and choosing what to eat.

We started with the raw beef tadaki, and the seared smoky flavor really came through — we ended up ordering several more plates.

The beef steak sushi wasn't tough at all and had a nice nutty flavor, so I kept reaching for more.

A plate of soft salmon sushi

The salmon had a soft texture and a nutty taste, so it was easy and enjoyable to eat.

Plump red shrimp sushi

The red shrimp had plump, springy flesh and was really tasty. And all of this for just ₩1,890 a plate — the price really was great.

The flounder sushi we ordered through the tablet was chewy, and the texture came through more the more you chewed it. The conch had a nice crunchy bite, and the squid was chewy yet soft — really delicious. The aged kimchi beef steak had aged kimchi that cut through the richness, so I could eat it cleanly to the end.

Spicy raw beef sushi: the surprise of the meal

What exceeded my expectations was the spicy raw beef — it had a chili-oil aroma with a clear spicy kick, the kind of flavor that keeps coming back to mind.

The gamtae (dried seaweed) sweet shrimp uni also had a subtle ocean scent, unique and delicious.

The egg-shrimp cheese steak combined the sweetness of egg with shrimp and cheese for a soft, nutty bite. The cheese scallop had plenty of cheese piled on with a smoky flavor added, making it nutty and easy to enjoy.

Lastly, we ordered the special sushi, tuna belly — it was fresh and soft, melting in the mouth. Even after trying so many different types, the overall quality was solid, which was satisfying.

Is Special Sushi Osan Branch worth a visit?

Overall, the sushi quality was good, and at ₩1,890 a plate, the value was satisfying too. With such a wide variety of menu items, my husband and I had fun picking things out together. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly, so it was a comfortable meal.
