Euljiro Korean BBQ for six: two medium bone platters, Eulji Baektan

In short

Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui (을지백탄뼈구이) is a charcoal-grilled pork bone restaurant right in front of Euljiro 3-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Six adults, including a cousin and her husband, came on a weekend evening and ordered two medium charcoal bone BBQ platters at 47,000 won each (spice level 1) with a potato pancake and rice balls, and the table left full. The bones at Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui are big with plenty of meat and a deeply savory sauce, making it a solid pick for drinks or a group dinner.

I had plans with my cousin and her husband and was trying to figure out where to meet, so I looked up good restaurants in Euljiro that would work for a whole group. I wanted somewhere good for meat, good for a drink, and with enough seats for everyone — and that's how I found Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui! True to its name, it specializes in bone BBQ, and the moment I saw photos of those bright red sauce-covered bones I was hooked haha. We ate our way through mains and sides very thoroughly.

Where is Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui, and how busy is it on a weekend evening?

Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui is located at 110-2 Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, 1st floor, right in front of Euljiro 3-ga Station, so it was really easy to get to. When you're meeting up with a group like us, a spot close to the station beats making someone walk far, right?

Since this was a gathering with my cousin's couple, we wanted somewhere everyone could eat comfortably, and the restaurant turned out to be bigger than expected, split across the 1st and 2nd floors. We came on a weekend evening and luckily got in without waiting — but the 1st floor was already full, and the 2nd floor was nearly full too.

Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui restaurant filled with weekend evening diners

Being this packed on a weekend evening definitely says something about its popularity in Euljiro. If we'd been a little later, we might have had to wait.

Ordering by QR code at the table

At Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui, you order via QR code once you're seated. It was convenient not having to flag down a staff member — you can browse the menu slowly and order right away.

Besides charcoal bone BBQ, Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui also has drinking-friendly menu items like chadol odregi (beef brisket and fish cake skewers) and cuttlefish, and apparently serves lunch options like bone hangover soup or beef brisket and garlic scape bibimbap. But we had one mission here — real Euljiro bone BBQ — so charcoal bone BBQ it is.

What six of us ordered

  • Charcoal bone BBQ, medium ₩47,000 × 2 (spice level 1)
  • Potato pancake ₩14,000
  • Rice ball ₩5,000
  • Saero soju ₩6,000
  • Plus beer on top

The menu said medium serves about 3 people and large serves about 4, so with 6 of us total, we ordered two medium platters. In the end, with the other dishes added in, all 6 of us ate very well. The side dishes came as a trio: cabbage salad, white kimchi, and diced radish kimchi!

What the charcoal bone BBQ looks like at spice level 1

And here comes today's main event — charcoal bone BBQ! Wait... this visual is insane haha.

Medium charcoal bone BBQ topped with red sauce and grilled scallions

Big chunky bones properly coated in red sauce, topped generously with grilled scallions.

The moment it hit the table, you couldn't not take a photo! The grilled scallions came cut into bite-sized pieces to eat alongside the bones. We ordered spice level 1, and it was easy to enjoy while still tasting the sauce's savory depth.

How much meat is on the bones?

When you hear 'bone BBQ,' you might picture something that looks huge in photos but turns out to be mostly bone with barely any meat to eat. But at Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui, there was way more meat on the bones than expected.

A piece of meat picked off the bone BBQ

You pick the meat off with your chopsticks and it comes away in pretty big pieces. The meat was tender too, and above all, the sauce was delicious. Spicy, salty, and packed with savory depth — one bite in and you immediately think, ah, this is drinking food haha.

The sauce was soaked deep into the meat so it was tasty on its own, but eating the grilled scallions in between added a sweet edge that paired really well.

Rice balls at 5,000 won with soju and beer

With a sauce this good, rice can't be left out. So we added rice balls for ₩5,000!

Ingredients for the added rice ball order

When the rice balls arrived, my cousin diligently mixed and shaped them, then handed one to each of us haha. You know rice balls someone else makes for you always taste best. One bite of rice ball, one bite of sauce-covered bone — carbs plus spicy meat, how could that not be delicious. The bone BBQ sauce is pretty rich, so eating it with the rice balls balanced the seasoning perfectly.

Saero soju and beer served alongside the bone BBQ

And since this was a rare gathering with my cousin's couple, drinks were a must. We ordered Saero soju and beer, and cheers all around! Red sauce meat like this really needs to be eaten with a drink haha.

Picking off a piece of bone BBQ and following it with a cold drink, I got it — I understood why this place is so busy in the evenings. The space is fairly large across two floors, and the menu pairs well with drinks, so it seems like a solid spot for friend gatherings or office dinners for Euljiro workers.

Potato pancake, 14,000 won: the thin-sliced style

And just as good as the bone BBQ main was the potato pancake, ₩14,000!

Thin-sliced pan-fried potato pancake

At first I pictured a standard potato pancake. But it wasn't the thick, ground-potato type I expected. It's potato sliced thin and pan-fried until golden! The edges were crispy and the inner potato cooked soft, so one bite gave you both crunchy and fluffy potato texture. It was delicious on its own, but the powder served alongside it was unique.

Sugar-salt powder served with the potato pancake

Try the potato pancake with sugar and salt

At first I thought, wait, you dip this in that? But they gave us a mix of sugar and salt to go with it. I picked up a piece of potato pancake, dipped it lightly, and tasted it — wow, why does this work so well haha. The saltiness brought out the potato's savory flavor, and then the faint sweetness of sugar followed, making a perfect sweet-salty combo.

The golden potato pancake was already good on its own, but with the powder dip, I kept reaching for more. If the charcoal bone BBQ is bold and rich, the potato pancake is nutty and sweet-salty, so switching between the two worked great. If you're heading to Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui, I'd recommend ordering the potato pancake too — personally, for a side dish, it had a surprisingly strong presence haha.

Are two medium platters enough for six people?

If you're visiting as a group like us, you might wonder what size to order. For 6 adults, we ordered two medium charcoal bone BBQ platters, along with potato pancake and rice balls.

Bottom line: we ate well and got full. It wasn't a case of big bones with little meat — there was plenty of meat attached, so with sides added in, two medium platters worked well for 6 people. Of course it depends on appetite, but it was plenty for us.

Final verdict on Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui

I found Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui while searching for good restaurants in Euljiro for plans with my cousin's couple! Being right in front of Euljiro 3-ga Station made it easy for a group to gather, and even on a weekend evening the 1st floor was already full, with the 2nd floor nearly full too — clearly a busy spot.

And the charcoal bone BBQ I was most curious about! The moment it landed on the table, you had to take a photo, and once we actually ate it, there was plenty of meat on the bones and real depth to the sauce — not just a pretty dish. It was great with rice balls, and paired nicely with Saero or a beer too.

Personally, I'd especially recommend the potato pancake, which was an unexpected highlight! Thin-sliced potato pan-fried golden gave a crispy, nutty texture, and dipping it in the sugar-salt mix that comes with it was surprisingly a real treat.

A bite of bone BBQ, a bite of rice ball, a bite of potato pancake, and a drink in between... we ate very thoroughly haha. If you're looking for good bone BBQ in Euljiro, or a bar-restaurant spot in Euljiro that works well for groups, this is worth a visit. Next time I go, I'll order the charcoal bone BBQ again, and I want to try the chadol odregi I missed this time!

I thought only the visual was insane, but Eulji Baektan Ppyeogui had plenty of meat and great sauce, and the potato pancake delivered too
