Suwon pasta restaurant for spicy pache and gnocchi: Rolling Pasta

In short

Rolling Pasta Suwon Station Branch is a casual Italian restaurant near Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. I tried Friday’s 9,900 won pache pasta deal, pork cutlet, and oven mushroom cream gnocchi. Verdict: a filling, well-priced meal with plenty of choices.

Rolling Pasta Suwon Station location and interior

Rolling Pasta entrance on Suwon Station Rodeo Street

It is near the entrance to Suwon Station Rodeo Street, and even though it is on the second floor, the banner and sign are easy to spot.

An interior with plenty of solo lunch diners

Walk up the stairs and, as soon as you enter, you will see several tables and the kitchen straight ahead. We visited during the lunch rush, and there were quite a few people eating alone, so it seems like lots of people come here for a solo meal near Suwon Station?

Further inside is another, slightly calmer space, so grab whichever seat you prefer! Each section has a self-service bar, so you can use one freely wherever you sit.

A varied menu, from pasta to sets

Rolling Pasta menu board

The Rolling Pasta Suwon Station menu. There was a menu board on the first floor that was easy to look over at a glance, so I took a photo. As you would expect from a pasta restaurant, there were loads of pasta options, plus pizza, hamburger steak, chopped steak, pork cutlet, oven mushroom cream gnocchi, cheese oven lasagna, pilaf, risotto, doria, salads, sides, and desserts?

Set menu with a main, drink, and side

They also offer set meals with a main, drink, and side, so a set could be a good choice if the combination is what you want!

Cream soup and pickles from the self-service bar

The pork cutlet comes with cream soup, served with pepper so you can season it as you like. I also picked up as many pickles as I wanted from the self-service bar!

Ordered zero cider

Zero cider, ₩2,000. A meal feels incomplete with just food, so we ordered zero cider too?

Discounted pache pasta

Rolling Western-style pork cutlet

Rolling Western-style pork cutlet, ₩11,900. It had been quite a while since I last had this kind of old-school Western-style pork cutlet, so after some deliberation I ordered it—and the look of it passed!

Oven mushroom cream gnocchi

Oven mushroom cream gnocchi, ₩11,500. Honestly, unless it is a proper restaurant, I do not usually order cream-pasta dishes when eating out, but the photo of the cream gnocchi made me feel like I had to order this one! Personally, I do not like gnocchi that is soft and squishy like sujebi (hand-torn dough soup dumplings), so I would rather have it nicely browned and crisp.

Spicy pache and a crumbly gnocchi texture

Pache pasta with spicy peppers

The pache pasta had spicy peppers scattered throughout. There was more spaghetti and more stuff in it than I expected. Especially those two or three big shrimp, maybe?

I do not know whether Rolling Pasta Suwon Station Branch makes its gnocchi in-house, but rather than chewy and springy, it was a little dry and tasted well-cooked, if that makes sense? The cream sauce itself was not intense, but the mushrooms, bacon, cheese, and oil all came together nicely, so I kept reaching for it.

The pork cutlet was not especially thick, but you know this kind can actually taste better, right?

Thin Western-style pork cutlet

It even came with a scoop of rice and cabbage salad—things that would be missed with this Western-style pork cutlet!

I had worried that the pache sauce might be too thin, but it was spicier and tastier than expected?

Eating pache pasta

The pork cutlet is tasty on its own, but eating it with the kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) that came with it makes it less rich and even more delicious.

I also photographed the cross-section of the gnocchi, but you cannot really tell what the texture is like from this, can you? It was slightly crumbly anyway, definitely far from chewy.

It is delicious with just the ketchup-mayonnaise sauce, so why can I never get this flavor at home? 🤔 The shrimp were quite a bit bigger than cocktail shrimp, so they had a great texture and tasted great too.

My younger sibling was so busy eating the pork cutlet that I did not even touch it from halfway through haha.

I do not normally eat tomatoes that are so present and alive(?), but the ones in this were better than expected.

My younger sibling never eats cream pasta or gnocchi, so is it for real that I ate this whole bowl by myself? 🫨
