The whole building at Something About Coffee is a café. It runs from 11am to 10:30pm, and as soon as you walk in you hit the 1st-floor space. It was bigger than I expected — I found myself thinking, "this is way more spacious than I thought!"

The 1st floor has wood-toned tables and a warm feel overall, so it felt pretty cozy. There was plenty of seating, and it seemed like a comfortable spot to sit and chat with a friend.

Around Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station there are always a lot of people, so cafés often run short on seats — but since this place uses multiple floors, there was a bit more breathing room.

Head up the stairs and the counter is on the 2nd floor. Since there's no counter right when you walk in on the 1st floor, you might wonder where to order — but once you go up to the 2nd floor, you can order right there haha.

The 2nd floor also has plenty of indoor seating plus a terrace space. Overall it's a mix of white tones and wood, so it doesn't feel too cold or sterile — the wood gives it a warm, comfortable feeling.

The 3rd floor was spacious too. The weather was so nice that day that we headed straight for the terrace without a second thought. The 2nd-floor terrace was pretty crowded, but once we climbed to the 3rd floor, it was just us lol. So for a little while, we got to sit there like it was our own private space. Just having coffee and dessert on the table and sitting there in nice weather with a friend made me happy over something so small.

We ordered the newly launched hojicha choux milk tea and a hot americano, and decided to pick out a dessert to go with them.

Since we were at a Gangnam café, just drinking coffee felt like it wasn't quite enough, and with such a great dessert selection, we decided to pick one to try.

Next to the counter, the desserts are set up beautifully. But honestly… it was so hard to choose lol. Every single one looked pretty and delicious, so we spent a long time deciding what to pick.

There were many kinds of cakes and the baked goods caught my eye too — looking at them, I just kept wanting to add one more to the order. My friend and I kept going back and forth, "this looks good too," "should we try that one too?"

Honestly the desserts looked so pretty I wanted to just take them all home as-is haha.

How do the black sesame fig cake and lemon pound cake taste?

The cakes really looked delicious. Since my friend and I both love black sesame, we picked the black sesame fig cake out of all the desserts. But one felt like too little, so we also ordered a lemon pound cake — two kinds total. The black sesame and fig combo is one I already like, so I was looking forward to it, and the lemon pound cake sounded refreshing, so we grabbed that one too.

When our drinks and desserts arrived, they looked so pretty even before we ate them. Pretty desserts deserve photos before you dig in, right? lol I lost count of how many pictures I took.

I've had the hojicha choux milk tea at Starbucks recently too, and to me, Something About Coffee's version felt a bit less sweet and more nutty. There was that distinct roasted, mellow hojicha flavor, which went well with the sweet desserts.

And the hot americano — my favorite combo as always! After a bite of sweet dessert, a sip of hot americano cleans up the sweetness left in your mouth, and you just keep going back for more.

Now on to the desserts. The black sesame fig cake had a generous layer of black sesame cream on top, with whole figs inside. It looked so pretty that I took a ton of photos before eating, and the taste exceeded expectations too.

On the first bite, the rich, nutty flavor of black sesame comes through first, followed by the fig's gentle sweetness. The black sesame cream on top was so generous that it should suit anyone who loves that distinct nutty flavor. The bottom layer is cream cheese and fig — and honestly, that's just an unbeatable combination haha.

The thick, soft cream cheese plus the fig's sweetness made for a really delicious bite.

I often buy fig cream cheese bread on my own, so this combination especially suited my taste. The thick, rich cream cheese with fig was sweet yet nutty, and the fig bits gave a nice bite here and there. The lemon pound cake looked pretty too and tasted good.

The two desserts had different flavor directions, so switching between them kept it from getting repetitive. Both the drinks and desserts were a hit that day! More than anything, sitting on the 3rd-floor terrace on a nice day, chatting comfortably with a friend, was healing in itself.
