Barley rice buffet with gochujang pork in Yeongtong, Suwon: Boriook

I wanted something hearty and Korean, so I went to a barley rice buffet. 😊 This time I visited Mangpo Boriook! The reviews were so good I was curious, and I came away properly full and satisfied. 🤤

Mangpo Boriook sits right in front of the Yeongtong SK View apartments. There's parking in front of the store for about 7 cars. 🚗

If the lot in front fills up, roadside parking nearby is also possible, so keep that in mind. The owner even drew a little map for roadside parking — check the map above before you park!

Inside the restaurant

The inside was bigger than I expected. It looked great for families, and it was really clean overall. ✨ The mother-of-pearl decoration on the wall was pretty cool too, haha. Kid chairs were ready as well, so it looked good for families visiting with children.

We ordered

That's what we got! You order on a tablet, and once you're done ordering, you just go serve yourself the side dishes you want. 😊 Just a note — you have to order a set meal to get the stew included!

What kinds of side dishes are there?

There were honestly so many side dishes. 😂 It was great being able to pile on as much namul as I liked, haha.

From spicy radish salad, geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi), and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) to the sautéed oyster mushrooms and acorn jelly you absolutely need for bibimbap — they had it all! There was also cabbage for wrapping, and since I love barley rice + cabbage wrap + ssamjang (dipping sauce), I was very satisfied, haha.

And my beloved seasoned doraji (bellflower root) was there too. 🥹 There were all kinds of namul like eolgari-muchim and seasoned bean sprouts, and the fried section had lotus root, sweet potato, and pepper fritters. Buffet fried food is often soggy, but here it was crispy and delicious! 👍

There was also japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and braised tofu. But the braised tofu was spicier than I expected. 🔥 If you're not great with spicy food, or if you have kids with you, it might be a bit much.

There were two types of rice ready — barley rice and white rice — but of course, a lot of people were going for the barley rice, haha.

Dessert and drinks

For dessert there were mini rice puffs and gangjeong (sweet rice snacks). The gangjeong wasn't hard, just nutty and mild — right up my alley!

The drink selection was varied too! Coffee, yulmu-cha (barley tea), plum tea, and peach iced tea were all on offer. ☕️ You can wrap up your meal and dessert in one go, lol.

Our self-served bibimbap spread

My boyfriend and I each piled our favorite bibimbap ingredients high and brought them back to our table. 🥗 Being able to eat as much as you want is definitely the perk of a barley rice buffet, haha.

The braised tofu was spicier than expected, but honestly I liked that. 🔥 Spice-shy folks might find it a bit too hot. The tofu itself was firm and dense, with great texture.

How's the gochujang pork?

And now the gochujang pork I ordered! It had a strong charcoal-grilled aroma. 🔥 Familiar in a way — like I'd had it before somewhere — but the kind of flavor you keep reaching for, lol.

The stew that comes with the set

The stew that came with the set tasted like a mix of doenjang (soybean paste) and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) — my exact style from the first spoonful. 🤤 It's tasty on its own, but mixing it into the bibimbap makes it even better! Doesn't everyone eat their bibimbap like this?

Just looking at the barley rice alone, the portion might look small. But once you pile on all the namul and side dishes, it's definitely not a small meal. 😂 Add gochujang and mix well — done! 🥄

They brought the gochujang and sesame oil to the table separately, and the sesame oil smelled really good.

I sipped plum tea in between bites, haha. A cup of plum tea and my stomach felt reset again... ready to eat some more. 😂 And on the way out, I even made myself an iced americano to take with me. ☕️ Meal, dessert, and coffee — properly enjoyed the whole lineup, haha.

Looking at other reviews, it seems there are days when the parking lot fills up completely with customers. This was my first visit, and overall the seasoning suited my taste really well — I was satisfied. 😊 I'd definitely come back!
