Hwaseong butcher restaurant with pre-grilled beef: Morakmorak
In short
Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch is a butcher restaurant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, where diners choose meat from a display case before it is pre-grilled. We enjoyed galbisal, salchisal, beef tartare, muksabal, and a two-person pot rice. Verdict: choosing the cuts yourself and finishing pre-grilled beef at the table made for an easy, good-value meal.

Whenever I’m wondering what to have for dinner around Namyang in Hwaseong these days, there’s one place that comes to mind: Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch!!!

A butcher restaurant near Rolling Hills
I found it while looking for a good restaurant near Rolling Hills. Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang is in Namyang-eup, so it’s also well known as a great place to eat near Hwaseong City Hall. It’s in just the right spot for anyone with plans around Rolling Hills too, haha.

You can totally get that butcher-restaurant feel just from the sign, right? Haha. It’s open 365 days a year, from 11:30 to 23:00, with last orders at 21:00.
The green-leaf decorations on the exterior make it really stand out even from a distance. There’s plenty of parking in the vacant lot near the restaurant too, haha.
Once inside, it was so spacious and nice!! As you’d expect from a restaurant near Rolling Hills, it looked great for group gatherings too, haha.

How do you choose the meat?
You look over the meat you want in the butcher’s display case by the entrance, choose it yourself, and put it in your basket, haha. Being able to check the marbling for myself before choosing made it feel instantly trustworthy!!
Picking specialty cuts yourself

There was also a separate section for pork specialty cuts, with fresh options such as hangjeongsal (pork jowl) ready to go!
This is what we chose!! Haha. Once you’ve selected your meat, they show you to your table and bring it out pre-grilled!!
I think the biggest advantage here is being able to choose your own meat and eat it at an affordable price, haha. You take as much of each cut as you want, just as if you were buying it at a butcher shop, then head to your table and grill it right away—such good value, hehe.

How the pre-grilled meat and self-serve bar work
The instructions are clearly laid out on a sign too. Choose meat from the display case, get your beef tartare and muksabal (acorn-jelly soup) set, pick up taco ingredients at the self-serve bar, receive the pre-grilled meat with tongs, and even add ramyeon noodles to Korean beef bone broth simmered for 48 hours...!

The self-serve bar had a variety of kimchi and seasoned vegetables, so it was nice to add whatever suited our taste, haha.

The table was set up so nicely too! I started with a piece of beef tartare topped with egg yolk, and it was wonderfully tender and nutty,, 👍👍

The sweet-and-tangy muksabal came alongside it, and it was perfect for cleansing the palate, haha. Just the flavor you need when things start to feel rich, hahaha.

What galbisal and salchisal were like
Because the meat came pre-grilled, we only had to cook it a little more ourselves, so the smell didn’t cling to our clothes—so nice! I recommend Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang to anyone around Rolling Hills who hates leaving with their clothes smelling like meat,,

The galbisal (beef rib finger meat) was incredibly tender, while the salchisal (beef chuck flap) had a lovely bite. Both were so delicious, with absolutely no off smellㅠ!!!! The pre-grilling seemed to keep the juices beautifully moist, and the lightly charred exterior made the flavor even better too, hahaha.

Cutting it into bite-sized pieces and eating it while it was still full of juices was so delicious that I just kept going nonstop, hahaha.

You can order pot rice for two, so we gave that a try!!! It was seriously so comforting and warm with soybean paste stew and meat.
For dessert, they gave us Sangha Farm ice cream on the house, and it was soft and nutty—the perfect finish (I’m touched!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Final thoughts on choosing and easily grilling the meat

Being able to choose the meat ourselves and eat it at an affordable price, plus having it pre-grilled so we could finish it easily at the table, made this an incredible value!! I could see why it’s known as a great place to eat near Hwaseong City Hall and in Namyang-eup, haha.
Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang was satisfying for its fresh Korean beef and friendly service, just as you’d hope from a Namyang favorite!!! I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a restaurant near Rolling Hills or a great meat spot around Namyang in Hwaseong >_<
