Hwaseong Japanese restaurant for kids: Kkot Gatsu cheese cutlets

In short

Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch is a Japanese cutlet restaurant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. We tried cheese gatsu and premium loin gatsu, with kids’ cutlery, high chairs, and a handy self-service bar making the meal easy. Verdict: a comfortable choice for dining out with children.

Today, I finally visited Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch, a Dongtan favorite I’d wanted to try every time its visuals popped up in my SNS feed—said to be the ultimate crispy-outside, tender-inside spot. Seeing it only through a screen was one thing, but visiting in person, it was even more perfect than I’d expected! ✨

Cozy Atmosphere and Seating

Exterior and seating at Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch

From the exterior alone, Kkot Gatsu Dongtan Main Branch had a gentle, stylish feel. The warm sunshine made the whole place look even cozier, and there were tables for two and four people. 🏮

Beautiful landscape videos played on a beam projector along the wall, which made me feel relaxed throughout the meal and added even more atmosphere.

There was also a commendation at the counter noting that the restaurant had been selected as outstanding three times, which made me trust it even more. Seeing celebrity verification photos nearby made me think, “Ah, it really must be a Dongtan favorite,” and got me even more excited.

Luckily, I arrived shortly after the break time ended and got in right away without waiting. There aren’t a huge number of tables, though, so there could be a wait during peak hours. ⚠️ If you do need to wait, you can use the machine at the entrance.

A Self-Service Bar That Made Dining with Kids Easy

The self-service bar in one corner of the restaurant was well stocked with neatly arranged homemade pickles, a variety of seasonings to bring out the flavors of the donkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet), plus thoughtful takeout containers and aprons.

Kids’ scissors and dedicated tableware

Best of all, for families visiting with children, they had small kids’ scissors, tongs, and dedicated tableware, so cutting up food for little ones was really convenient. 🧸 There were also about three high chairs, making this a great Dongtan restaurant to visit with kids. You could feel the thoughtful care throughout the space, and having a restroom inside the restaurant made it even more convenient!

Cheese Gatsu and Premium Loin Gatsu

After debating among the many menu options, we ordered the cheese gatsu and premium loin gatsu.

Stretchy cheese in the cheese gatsu

Just looking at the long, stretchy cheese in the cheese gatsu, I could tell it was generously filled with quality ingredients. When I pressed it lightly, rich juices seeped out too; with every bite, the nutty cheese and meat came together beautifully. 🧀

Juicy cheese gatsu

Next up was the premium loin gatsu!

Thickly sliced premium loin gatsu

The premium loin gatsu was sliced thickly along the grain, and the texture of the meat was clearly visible, making it look delicious from the start! I first tried it dipped in the basic donkatsu sauce.

The slightly sweet sauce went so well with the crisp breading, and the thick cut gave it such a great chew that my child enjoyed it so much too!

Loin gatsu served with wasabi

You know donkatsu is a perfect match for wasabi, right!! The sharp wasabi paired wonderfully with the thick loin gatsu. The miso soup served alongside had a deeper, richer flavor than a clear broth, making it a perfect companion to every kind of gatsu.

A Small Thoughtful Touch for Kids After the Meal

Colorful candy for children

At the counter, there was a container full of colorful candies for children! My eldest is still too young to eat them, but was apparently drawn in by their cute look and came out smiling happily after choosing one all by themselves. 🍭

If you take part in the receipt review, you can also enjoy cheese balls or beer, so be sure to take advantage of this nice little perk when you visit! 🍻 Thanks to the satisfying donkatsu and attentive service, we ended the meal feeling happy right to the end~ If you want delicious Japanese-style donkatsu in a lovely setting, or a comfortable Dongtan restaurant to visit with children, I recommend stopping by! 😊
