Hwaseong all-you-can-eat eel and barbecue: Songrim Bok Jangeo

In short

Songrim Bok Jangeo is an all-you-can-eat freshwater eel and barbecue restaurant in Saesol-dong, Hwaseong. I ordered the adult all-you-can-eat set for two and alternated eel, pork belly, and duck neck meat for a varied meal. Verdict: a practical pick for a family meal or group gathering with easy parking.

An all-you-can-eat eel spot with easy parking in Saesol-dong

Songrim Bok Jangeo (송림복장어) is in the Saesol-dong area of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, so it was not difficult to find. I drove there, and being able to park in the free parking tower was really convenient. Parking is free for up to 3 hours, so there was no need to rush through the meal.

Easy parking is quite a big advantage for families visiting together or for anyone looking for a Saesol-dong dinner spot for a larger group. I recommend it to people who consider parking convenience when searching for good restaurants in Saesol-dong.

A spacious interior for family meals

Spacious interior of the grilled eel restaurant

Once inside, it was sooo much bigger than I expected! I went at 5 PM, and at first only one table was dining. Haha. I went on a Friday, and from 6 PM, customers started arriving one by one!! Of course!! Friday evening was peak time!

Rather than feeling too heavy or awkward just because it is an eel restaurant, it had an atmosphere that suited a family meal or gathering. Since you grill the eel at the table, it was nice for sitting with a group, talking, and eating. High chairs were available too, so it looked convenient for families dining with young children. That is why I thought it would work well not only for family meals and gatherings with friends, but also for Saesol-dong work dinners.

Adult all-you-can-eat eel with barbecue meats

The most striking thing here is, of course, the adult all-you-can-eat option. We ordered the adult all-you-can-eat set for two that day. Usually, all-you-can-eat eel makes you think of eating only eel over and over, but this place was unusual because you can have freshwater eel along with pork belly and duck neck meat.

I also liked that unlimited eel here does not mean thawed frozen eel. I heard they bring in live eel from the direct market every morning and prepare it fresh every day. The pricing felt reasonable while they still seemed to care about the eel’s freshness, so I was quietly looking forward to the food before it even arrived.

I recommend this place for days when you want both eel and meat. Eating just one thing continuously can get tiring quickly, but alternating with pork belly and duck neck meat made the meal feel much more varied.

Basic side dishes for an eel meal

There were basic side dishes that went nicely with the eel. The flavor of eel changes quite a bit depending on what you eat alongside it, rather than eating it plain.

You can enjoy the clean, natural flavor of eel first, then add the accompaniments for a different feel. For me, the shredded ginger and the perilla leaves? Onions? Those were the tastiest!! Haha.

Especially when I ate the meats too, my taste kept changing a little, so I found myself reaching for all sorts of things.

How to grill freshwater eel deliciously

Finally, the eel, pork belly, and duck meat appeared!! The owner brings the first platter, and once you finish it, you can add as much of whichever meat you want. ^^ Honestly, at an eel restaurant, whether the eel tastes good is ultimately more important than the atmosphere, right? ^^ Grilling it ourselves also made it fun to watch the eel turn beautifully golden.

Instructions for grilling the eel deliciously were posted too.! First, grill the live eel with the skin side facing down!! The outside turned golden while the flesh stayed moist, and the first thing I noticed when chewing was its tender texture.

Then... had about 3 minutes passed? I heated the grill over high heat first, then grilled over medium heat~ When the eel started to look as if it was curling up, I flipped it.

Second, once both sides are nicely cooked, you will see it curl up like that. Then remove the middle back bone, side fins, and head fin. Haha ^^

Third, cut it into bite-sized pieces, stand them up, and grill the cut sides until golden. Isn’t it pretty lined up like that? ^^

Above all, it was not eel with dry, tough flesh; its moist and springy texture was quite nice. It retained eel’s characteristic nutty yet clean flavor, so it was not overwhelming even without sauce or accompaniments.

Personally, when eel is too heavily seasoned, I feel like the eel’s own flavor gets buried. Here, it was easy to eat while appreciating the eel’s natural nuttiness.

Eel enjoyed without seasoning

And the advantage of all-you-can-eat is, of course, being able to eat without feeling self-conscious. I think it would definitely be appealing to people who love eel.

Switching things up with pork belly and duck neck meat

When I wanted something a little different after continuing with eel, I tried the pork belly and duck neck meat too. Pork belly is familiar and, as expected, difficult to go wrong with. Duck neck meat had a chewy texture unlike ordinary pork, and eating it between bites of eel did a great job of changing up my palate.

Chewy grilled duck neck meat

I especially liked the duck neck meat because its chewy texture came through more with each bite. It was tender but still had such a lovely chew. Haha, meat at an all-you-can-eat eel restaurant too! Haha. Once I actually tried them together, the combination was not bad at all, haha.

Pork belly grilled standing upright

Now that I think about it... why was I standing up the pork belly too? Hahaha! I guess I grilled the pork belly like eel because I had come to an eel restaurant. Haha.

To wrap up, I thought this kind of selection could actually be an advantage for a Saesol-dong work dinner with several people. Some people may like eel, while others may prefer meat. So among Saesol-dong restaurants, I felt it was a place worth keeping in mind when looking for a family meal or gathering spot on a day you want a generous amount of eel.

When looking for somewhere to eat in Saesol-dong, you naturally end up searching for SongSan Green City restaurants too, and I recommend this place if you want to enjoy eel and meat in one visit. For a Saesol-dong work dinner with a group especially, the easy parking and range of menu choices were quite practical. After the meal, I checked and found that high-oil-price relief funds and local currency can be used here too. In the end, you have to try a place like this yourself to know, right? Haha.

Overall

For people who love eel, it was great to be able to eat generously, and for people who feel it is a bit much to eat eel alone, having pork belly and duck neck meat too was the best, the best! If you want to ease the price burden while enjoying a hearty meal from eel to meat and eel soup, this is a Saesol-dong restaurant worth remembering. I especially recommend it as a SongSan Green City restaurant for family meals, Saesol-dong work dinners with a group, and anyone looking for a generous meal.
