Suwon sushi buffet dinner with monkfish liver sushi: Kuu Kuu Gold

In short

Kuu Kuu Gold Suwon City Hall Branch is a sushi buffet in Ingye-dong, Suwon, Gyeonggi, with a wide spread of buffet dishes. On a weekday evening visit, Kuu Kuu Gold delivered an overwhelmingly large space, monkfish liver gunkan, live-fish sushi with aged kimchi and self-grilled beef brisket. The sushi variety and clean upkeep make Kuu Kuu Gold a buffet worth returning to.

Kuu Kuu is a buffet I used to go to often with my family at another branch, and since there's a 'Gold' branch close by, I finally tried it for the first time!! A Kuu Kuu Gold review of a place that was se-riously huge with a really wide spread of food!!

Kuu Kuu Gold Suwon City Hall Branch: reservations, parking and hours

The Suwon City Hall branch opened in June, so it's still fresh and spotless. Reservations are available for parties of 4 or more! Groups of 12 or more can also use a private room, but note that room reservations can only be made by phone!

The building parking lot is free for 2 hours. After that it's ₩2,000 extra per 10 minutes, but 2 hours is more than enough time to eat your fill.

11:00 - 21:30, last order at 20:30. Public holiday closures get updated on Naver Maps too, so check there!

A waiting area and seating like an airport lounge

The scale of Kuu Kuu Gold was truly overwhelming. Starting with the waiting area, it's seriously big. Like a huge airport lounge.

For reference, I went around 7:30 on a weekday evening, so it wasn't that crowded. Even when it's busy, the tables are spaced really far apart and well separated, so I don't think it would feel hectic.

The seats we were assigned! So spacious, so spacious...

Can't skip the events at Kuu Kuu either!! If you visit on your birthday (ID required), you get 30% off for yourself. Writing a Naver review also gets you a ₩2,000 discount.

Since Kuu Kuu is pay-after-you-eat, weekday lunch/dinner is determined by the time you leave.

A buffet route that runs from right to left

Now for the food photos!! I really did shoot everything. The route runs from right to left, i.e. this way ⬅️, so keep in mind that the photos also connect when you look at them from right to left!

Yukhaejinmi grill

This was the first time I'd seen a space like this at a buffet — there's a grill where you can cook meat yourself. So fascinating...haha👀

Use the grill plate, tongs and scissors freely, then put the grill plate on the rail right in front and drop the scissors/tongs into the basket at the back.

Inside Yukhaejinmi (the 'land and sea delicacies' section) are the things to grill — not just pork/beef but freshwater eel, shrimp, scallops and even chicken neck meat!

Sushi and nigiri selection

First time I'd seen this much sushi at a Kuu Kuu... I'd say this is the flagship sushi buffet in Ingye-dong. The food may look a bit messy in my photos, but the staff kept cir-cling around and tidying up the whole time, so overall it was clean!

My eyes popped open when I saw there was monkfish liver sushi. 🫢

Soy sauce/wasabi/chojang (sweet-spicy vinegar chili sauce) were placed here and there in the dessert and drink corners.

From pizza to coffee

Pizza. The corn pancake is tasty.

So many kinds of noodles too! 😆 Except for the pho, you just tell them right there. For pho, you add the ingredients you want and they make it for you!

There's fried food, bread, salad, fruit, dessert, bingsu (shaved ice), ice cream, fondue/waffles, drinks/cereal, coffee and even tea.

Beer/wine is right next to the entrance, so it's set apart from the rest of the food.

A weekday dinner split across three plates

There's one thing you absolutely need to know to eat well at a buffet. That is, knowing your own capacity in plates 🤔 In my case it's three moderately filled plates, and for my husband three fully loaded plates, so all the food has to be distributed among those. Tell me everyone plans this much

First plate with sushi and pizza
My first plate

For the salad I put in cherry tomatoes and sweet pumpkin salad just for form's sake, then grabbed everything from sushi to pizza. The monkfish liver gunkan (battleship sushi) and the live-fish sushi with mugeunji (aged kimchi) were really delicious.

I just grabbed the salmon steak on a whim and it was better than expected. I love baby crab so I had that, and the little crabs were packed full of meat, so, so tasty!!

A plate that didn't even glance at the salad, piled with sushi, sashimi and meat!(lol) My husband really loves Kuu Kuu's sushi, and his satisfaction at the Suwon City Hall branch was really high too.

Second plate with sushi and grilled meat
My second plate

I'm actually not one to eat much sushi at a buffet (I don't usually eat sushi on the second plate), but Kuu Kuu Gold's was so good I went back for more. Monkfish liver and live-fish mugeunji making another appearance haha If you're looking for a sushi buffet in Ingye-dong, you have to come here..

The meat at the bottom of the plate is what I grilled myself at Yukhaejinmi haha The chadol (thin-sliced beef brisket) was delicious.

Besides sushi there's plenty of different meat and fried food, so you can pick whatever you like! They even had takoyaki, which my husband loves.

Dogani seolleongtang (ox bone soup with knee cartilage) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup). Kuu Kuu's jjamppong is good haha

I wanted to have it with coffee, but I had work the next day so I held back..!!

Final ice cream dessert

My husband finished off with ice cream and that was really it!! We ate sooo well and were totally stuffed.

A place I liked for its sushi variety and how well it's kept

It was an Ingye-dong sushi buffet on a massive scale. I'd definitely go back! Even on a weekday evening there were quite a few people. If you're a party of 4 or more, especially on weekends, absolutely book ahead!! What I liked was the overwhelming number of sushi types and how well the place is kept up.
