Maple Hair Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Gwangmyeong Sageori Station on Line 7, so it was easy to get to. It's on the 2nd floor of the building with the fish market, so it wasn't hard to find either.

With the weather getting hot and my hair growing out a lot before I knew it, I stopped by Maple Hair Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch, a hair salon at Gwangmyeong Sageori, to get it tidied up.

What is the salon like inside Maple Hair Gwangmyeong?

Walking in, the space felt spacious, clean, and comfortable overall. Maple Hair's concept of 'hair, space, and people that hold the comfort of nature' really came through in the atmosphere.

There were charging cables set up around the salon. They also brought out snacks during the service, and that kind of small touch felt thoughtful. A variety of drinks were also available — americano, plus chamomile, peppermint, hibiscus, green tea, roasted barley tea (dungulle-cha), aloe juice, and more to choose from depending on taste.

My hair grows fast and is on the thick side, so even a little neglect makes it look bulky and shaggy in no time. I'd thought about growing it out a bit more this time, but once it actually got longer it felt way more suffocating and inconvenient to style than I expected.

So this time I went in for a consultation aiming for a style that wasn't cut too short, but was overall light, tidy, and easy to manage at home. The person who handled my hair this time was Manager Mihee.

How the men's cut was done at Maple Hair

When I told Manager Mihee my current hair condition and the style I wanted, she carefully checked my hair condition first and then gave advice in a direction that would suit me. She started with the cut — since I'd had a perm not long before, there was some damage. So she trimmed the damaged parts while cutting so the back and sides connected naturally.

She also mentioned that since I'd already had a lot of thinning done recently, she didn't need to thin it out much more this time. I liked that she trimmed only what was needed based on my current hair condition rather than automatically thinning it down.

How the see-through dandy perm was set, side and back

Before the perm, she also gave my hair some nutrition care. The style I chose this time was the see-through dandy perm. Rather than a heavy, weighed-down look, I wanted a style where the top and front hair swept over naturally and was easy to manage.

Since perming the front hair can add curl and shorten the length a bit, she cut it to just lightly cover the eyebrows. She permed the top and front so they'd sweep naturally to one side, and added a perm to the back — which usually loses volume for me — to bring the volume back.

The sides were kept at a longer 20mm, with a down perm applied there so the overall silhouette would fall cleanly. The back was also kept light rather than heavy, and cut to connect naturally with the sides, making the whole line noticeably neater.

Once it was done, it definitely felt much lighter than before. Rather than just cutting the length short, she kept the original length while tidying up the bulky parts and adding volume where needed, which improved the overall balance. Especially with the front and top sweeping naturally, I think styling in the morning will be a lot easier.

At the end, Manager Mihee also showed me exactly how to dry and style my hair at home to get the natural shape. It was great that she didn't just do a nice perm, but also taught me how to recreate a similar look once I got home.
