I went to Godansu Changwon Yongho Branch, a pork belly spot on Garosu-gil in Changwon. The aged pork belly with tableside grilling service is so chewy and delicious — you have to try it, it's a real Garosu-gil pork belly gem!

Hours: opens 11am, closes 9pm, closed every Monday! Separate men's/women's restrooms, corkage fee applies.

What the room looks like: Godansu Changwon Yongho Branch and its glass-door group room

Godansu Changwon Yongho Branch is in the basement level on Changi-daero 464beon-gil, and the place is pretty spacious, with seating available for groups. I visited early in the evening and the restaurant was all set up cleanly for dinner service!

The group room for larger parties is slightly separated with a glass door~ It seemed like a great spot to book ahead for a work dinner or a gathering.

Since I'd booked ahead through Naver Reservation, they showed me to the reserved seat that was already set up.

Side dishes and sauces at Godansu, from pickled celery to basil sauce

Among Godansu Changwon Yongho Branch's side dishes, the celery pickle was really distinctive!! The mustard leaf kimchi was tasty too! Under the white kimchi there was a white mixed dish — konjac salad, I think? — and its nutty, chewy texture was great haha.

And soon after, the steamed egg with ginkgo nuts came out! It looked like pudding but turned out to be steamed egg~ Tasting it, it wasn't the usual BBQ-restaurant steamed egg flavor — it had a deeper taste, not just salty but with a hint of soy-sauce aroma and even a touch of bonito broth flavor, really delicious! The lightly dressed lettuce salad added a tangy note too, whetting the appetite before the meat arrived~

And here are the various seasonings and sauces served alongside the meat — the one on the far right is basil sauce!! Below it is salted hairtail intestine, and on the top left is squid jeotgal (fermented squid) with Godansu's own secret touch of extra seasoning. And down below, spicy barbecue sauce mixed with pineapple, adding a sweet note!

The staff grilled every piece with such care, it was so comfortable haha. And the smoke got sucked up right away above the grill, so the meat smell barely clung to my clothes~!

First bite of pork belly dipped in salt

For the first bite, I dipped it in just plain salt, and then tried it with the green onions grilled alongside dipped in barbecue sauce, and also topped with squid jeotgal — it was nice to have so many combinations to try. Come to think of it, pork belly goes well with just about anything haha.

My hand kept reaching for this spinach pesto sauce, a mix of basil pesto and spinach haha. I usually love basil, so it tasted even better to me. Something about the fragrant aroma paired really well with the meat's flavor.

Finishing the meal with cheonggyul soba at Godansu

To finish the meal at Godansu Changwon Yongho Branch, I ordered the cheonggyul soba (green citrus buckwheat noodles, ₩7,000)! Since this is a dish you don't see at other BBQ restaurants, I ordered it right away. Doesn't the name alone sound refreshing?

The combination of green citrus and buckwheat soba broth was refreshing and unique. Make sure to finish your meal here with the cheonggyul soba~!

At the entrance of Godansu, a Garosu-gil favorite in Changwon, there's even Febreze available! A thoughtful touch so you can get rid of the meat smell on your way out. And you can also see the meat aging in the fridge haha.

The neon pink color gave off a signature vibe that felt distinctly Godansu, something a bit different! Not your average BBQ spot but a genuinely hip one!!
