Gijang tteokgalbi restaurant Saturday waiting tips: Dongam Tteokgalbi

In short

Dongam Tteokgalbi is a tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) Korean restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building on Gijanghaean-ro in Gijang, Busan, with a self-bar and a Lotte World view. A couple visited on their 2nd wedding anniversary at Saturday noon, found the place full with 7 parties waiting, waited 30 minutes, and ordered the cheese tteokgalbi set and the Dongam tteokgalbi set. The food, service and interior were all good, but with limited building parking and only 2 baby chairs, it's better to avoid peak hours.

Visiting Dongam Tteokgalbi in Gijang on our anniversary

Since it was our 2nd wedding anniversary,

A moment from our 2nd wedding anniversary meal

we went to Dongam Tteokgalbi near Lotte Outlet Gijang.

How long is the wait at Saturday noon lunch?

We arrived at 12pm on Saturday and it was completely full. We were 7th in line for waiting, and I think we waited about 30 minutes.

Self-bar and old-style dessert snacks

Dongam Tteokgalbi, a well-known spot near Haedong Yonggungsa Temple,

has stir-fried sausage rice and more,

and it's famous for having a self-bar.

The old-style snacks (옛날과자) served for dessert left an impression too.

Menu and ordering conditions

All set menus require 2 people or more to order, and there's a kids' tteokgalbi menu too. There's a tteokgalbi set, cheese tteokgalbi, and more. You order via kiosk.

We ordered the cheese tteokgalbi set and the Dongam tteokgalbi set.

and when we ordered two menus, they came out together, haha.

Two kinds of tteokgalbi served together
Hot pot rice and doenjang jjigae on the table

The hot pot rice and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) came out one each.

At first I was flustered thinking one portion was missing lol. The portions were big enough, so it wasn't a problem.

Scooping hot pot rice into individual bowls

We each scooped some into our own rice bowls like this. The food was delicious too.

Cheese tteokgalbi taste and what fell short

The cheese tteokgalbi was a cheese bomb overall, with a chewy texture — delicious.

What fell short: there aren't many parking spots in the building, so if you come late there's nowhere to park. We ended up parking near Shinsegae Premium Outlets Dongbusan — for maybe 2 hours, the parking fee came to ₩8,000. Dongam Tteokgalbi covered ₩2,000 of it, so we spent ₩6,000 on parking.

And… there were only 2 baby chairs, so at first when we needed one there wasn't one and we were flustered. We asked a group that was finishing up and leaving, and got a baby chair from them.

When's the best time to go

The good points were: the taste and the friendliness the Korean-style interior

So I'd say it's not great to go during peak or crowded hours. If you go at a slower time, you can enjoy the Lotte World view at ease and take your time with the self-bar too.

A well-maintained restroom at the restaurant

The restroom felt well cared for too!
