Gijang brunch café 2nd-floor reserved seat, burrata basil pasta

In short

Purity Cafe is a brunch and bakery café on the main road along Chaseong-ro in Gijang, Busan. Visiting on a weekday Wednesday around 11am with a Naver reservation for the private 2nd-floor space, the writer ordered burrata cheese basil pasta, a jambon-beurre sandwich, and two iced Americanos, and found the best combo was dipping the sandwich in the leftover basil pesto sauce. For a quiet Gijang date course, booking the 2nd-floor space at Purity Cafe is highly recommended.

I went to Gijang last week on a weekday morning to enjoy a relaxed midweek date. Skipping the weekend crowds, I arrived around 11am on Wednesday at Purity Cafe, a Gijang spot famous for its brunch and bakery.

It's right on the main road in Gijang so it's easy to find, and there's plenty of parking so I could walk in without any parking stress. I packed in the vibe, the taste, and honest tips, so if you're planning a Gijang date course, pay attention!

Big windows and green plants: the 1st-floor vibe at Purity Cafe

As soon as I walked in, warm sunlight pouring through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows and the green plants scattered around put my mind at ease. Cute sheep figurines and tasteful little props blended together, making every corner of the café a lovely photo zone.

The bakery counter had freshly baked bread on display looking irresistible, but since I'd come to have a proper brunch today, I resisted and carefully chose a solid lineup instead.

You need a reservation to use the private 2nd-floor space

The 1st floor is spacious and open, great for a comfortable stay, but the real charm point of Purity Cafe is the 2nd floor! It has a private, cozy space set up separately upstairs.

You can use this private 2nd-floor space if you book in advance — we had reserved our seats ahead of time through Naver, so as soon as we arrived we were kindly shown straight up to our cozy reserved seats. Being able to focus entirely on just-the-two-of-us conversation made it perfect for savoring a leisurely weekday morning.

The brunch menu we ordered

The brunch menu we ordered was

  • Burrata cheese basil pasta
  • Jambon-beurre sandwich
  • 2 refreshing iced Americanos

Hearing that the recipes were developed by a chef team with Michelin 2-star backgrounds got me excited from the moment we ordered.

There were so many other things I wanted to try — various pizzas, steak, gnocchi. I'll have to come back and order more widely next time.

First sip: the iced Americano

The brunch dishes and drinks arrived together! The first sip of the iced Americano was really excellent. The acidity wasn't overpowering, it was nutty with a very clean finish. It's a flavor that would please just about anyone, so I had high hopes for how it would pair with the brunch dishes.

Burrata cheese basil pasta: the taste

First up was the burrata cheese basil pasta. Fresh basil aroma filled the whole table, and mixing the soft, melty burrata cheese into the noodles was genuinely fun to eat. The fragrant basil and the smooth, rich burrata worked beautifully together, and the overall flavor was really good.

Jambon-beurre sandwich

Next was the jambon-beurre sandwich! Between a baguette that was crispy outside and chewy inside were generous layers of savory, clean-tasting jambon ham and rich butter, and the flavor got better the more I chewed.

Dipping the sandwich in the leftover basil pesto sauce

And here's one special tip I discovered! I dipped the light jambon-beurre sandwich into the salty, rich basil pesto sauce left over from the pasta. The nutty butter flavor of the sandwich mixed with the savory basil sauce and it felt like a flavor upgrade spell was cast!

It tastes so much better dipped like this

I kept exclaiming in delight and cleaned the plate completely. Chatting away over delicious food in the quiet, cozy 2nd floor, an hour flew by before I knew it. Thanks to the quality of the ingredients, the distinctive atmosphere, and the friendly service, I got to enjoy a really pleasant brunch.
