Noodle restaurant by Sanbang-san cosmos fields, Jeju: Sanbang Sochan

Around Sanbang-san, most people pick the sights first and then look for a restaurant. I tend to do the opposite — pick where to eat first, then plan the sightseeing around it. This time I was searching for good food near Sanbang-san and came across Sanbang Sochan in Jangsu Sanghoe.

The Sanbang-san cosmos flowers are adding to the seasonal mood right now, so rather than just eating and moving on, it felt like a good time to take in the scenery around it too.

Where is Sanbang Sochan in Sagye-ri, and where do you park?

Sanbang Sochan in Jangsu Sanghoe sits in Sagye-ri near Sanbang-san. The rock face of Sanbang-san is visible right next to the restaurant, so from the moment I arrived it felt like I'd landed on the west side of Jeju.

Being close to Sanbang-san makes it easy to pair a meal with sightseeing in one route.

There's a small parking area in front of the building, but it's not large, so depending on when you visit it helps to have a nearby lot in mind as backup. If you're using public transit, you can get off at the Sanbang-san stop and walk over, which works fine even if you're traveling Jeju without a rental car.

You come for the meal and end up naturally taking in the Sanbang-san view too.

The exterior isn't flashy — it blends naturally into the landscape around Sanbang-san. With the mountain visible right in front of you, you end up photographing more than just the food.

If your plan includes seeing the Sanbang-san cosmos, as mine did this time, you don't need to pick a meal spot far away — it connects easily with the nearby sights.

When I search for good food near Sanbang-san, I care about the food, but parking and distance matter just as much — and this spot's closeness to the sights made it easy to fit into the day's plan.

Matcha onmyeon, abalone jang bibim naengmyeon and the meat set

Picking one warm soup dish and one cold mixed dish meant the combination didn't overlap.

The first thing that caught my eye on the menu this time was the matcha onmyeon.

The noodles had a clear green color, giving it a different feel from a typical gogi guksu (meat noodle soup), and eating it with the warm broth made for a hearty meal.

The noodle color was distinct enough that I didn't need many photos to show off the dish's character. As for the abalone jang bibim naengmyeon, the abalone sits right on top, so you know exactly what it is the moment it arrives at the table.

Since it's a mix-it-yourself dish with sauce and noodles, the abalone made a nice addition, and pairing it with the warm matcha onmyeon gave us two very different styles to share.

We also ordered the meat set alongside the matcha onmyeon, and piling the noodles and meat together made a great combination.

A lot of people are chasing the cosmos views around Sanbang-san these days, so instead of eating and leaving right away, I planned this visit to include a look around the area too. Seeing the Sanbang-san cosmos alongside the mountain itself, rather than just the flowers on their own,

really captured the feel of a Jeju autumn. So it works well to eat at Sanbang Sochan in Jangsu Sanghoe in the morning or around lunchtime and then look around Sanbang-san afterward. You could also flip the order and see the cosmos first before heading over for a meal. If you're driving a rental car, bundling the meal with nearby sightseeing cuts down on extra driving.

Is Sanbang Sochan worth a stop in Sagye-ri?

If you're searching for good food near Sanbang-san and want to consider parking, public transit, and nearby sightseeing all at once, Sanbang Sochan in Jangsu Sanghoe is worth adding to the plan.

On this visit I tried the matcha onmyeon and the abalone jang bibim naengmyeon — the two had different moods, which made them good to order together, and best of all, being able to continue on to the Sanbang-san cosmos made planning the route easy.
