Seogwipo Olle Market black pork grill, 2,900 won beer: Donsahyang

A black pork belly restaurant worth hunting down in Seogwipo, Jeju: Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch.

There's one thing you absolutely have to eat when you're in Jeju, right? Black pork!! Of course I ate it. I picked super carefully and ended up at a local-recommended spot near Jeju's Olle Market, Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch in Seogwipo. Here's my honest review!

Where is Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch, and what are its hours?

Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled black pork specialist at 20 Cheonji-ro, Seogwipo-si, near Olle Market. It's open daily 17:30–23:00, and it takes groups, has parking, accepts reservations, and is pet-friendly.

Since this was a local recommendation, I went in with high expectations.

The perfect location — an easy walk from both Maeil Olle Market and Lee Jung-seob Street! It's about 15 minutes on foot from our accommodation, Golden Daisy Hotel, so we left the car and walked over. (Why? Because we were planning to drink!!)

Seeing the ₩2,900 draft beer banner in front of the shop made me even happier. Hahaha.

What is the dining room at Donsahyang like?

The inside of Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch has retro décor with plenty of space between tables. There was none of the typical grease smell or thick smoke you get at BBQ places, so it felt pleasant.

A quick shot of the interior when there were no customers around! The place wasn't huge, but the table spacing was generous and comfortable.

The retro-style interior gave off a cozy, nostalgic feeling and I loved it — I'm a sucker for this kind of vibe. No greasy smell or smoky haze like you'd expect at a typical BBQ place, so it was really comfortable. The owner and staff were super kind too.

We had a reservation, and as soon as we sat down they set the table right away.

Donsahyang menu and what we ordered

Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch's signature dish is the Jeju Doldol Manongsal, but we were craving pork belly, so we ordered black pork belly first.

• 2 bottles Hallasan soju
• 3 glasses Terra draft beer

₩2,900 for Terra draft beer — a price you could never dream of in Seoul. I was originally only going to drink soju, but I ended up ordering beer anyway.

Dinner started with an ice-cold draft beer. I thought Hallasan only came in the strong version, but turns out there's a mild one too? If you want to drink more lightly, the mild version is clean and nice.

First, the black pork belly we ordered!! Looked amazing just from the visuals. This Seogwipo Olle Market gem apparently uses its own distribution system to carefully select Jeju pork and cross-ages it, offering it at a reasonable price. Plus, since the owner is a former hotelier, you can even pair the black pork with wine here. (Corkage-free wine — 2 bottles per table)

A restaurant that gives you a complimentary steamed egg is love. And the portion was huge too.

The thick pork belly hit the grill~ and since the staff grill it for you, all you have to do is eat comfortably.

Meat grilled by a pro really does taste different. They grilled it perfectly so the juices didn't escape.

One other unusual thing — they grill this sundae (blood sausage) alongside the meat. First time having sundae grilled together with meat~ it was a surprisingly good treat.

A taste that immediately makes you understand why Jeju is famous for black pork. Crispy outside, juicy inside, packed with flavor. The chewy texture of the pork belly totally hit my sweet spot.

It was even better eaten with hairtail intestine jeotgal (salted fermented sauce), perilla leaves, and garlic. Normally when I eat meat I like to plow through the side dishes too, but the meat itself at Donsahyang was so good that I decided to just fill up on protein instead..! We finished 2 servings of pork belly and ordered one more.

What is the signature Jeju Doldol Manongsal?

Jeju Doldol Manongsal is Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch's signature dish — 'manong' means garlic in Jeju dialect. It combines the deep flavor of Daejeong garlic with chewy skirt meat, served with both a cream sauce and a garlic sauce.

Figured we had to try the signature dish, so we added one more serving of Doldol Manongsal.. (four servings between two people, is that even real)

I already love skirt meat, and then add a garlic seasoning on top of that~

Jeju Doldol Manongsal came with both cream and garlic sauces. You can eat it however you like, but I'd recommend alternating between the two. Hahaha. It's an appealing dish where you get to enjoy both richness and a sharp garlicky kick.

We were about to burst after 4 servings of meat.. so in the end we couldn't add any side dishes. Thanks to the friend who recommended this place — and if you're looking for a black pork restaurant in Seogwipo, Jeju, I strongly recommend Donsahyang Olle Market Main Branch!
