Magok hot pot with 8 broths to mix yourself and fuzhu: J's Pot Magok
In short
J's Pot Magok Branch is a single-serving hot pot restaurant on basement level 2 of COEX Magok, connected to Exit 6 of Magongnaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Instead of a set, this visit picked beef broth and mala broth separately and added beef, lamb, a mushroom platter, a tofu platter and fuzhu (dried tofu skin); the beef broth tasted like clean shabu-shabu and the mala broth was milder than expected. With solo bar seats as well as large tables, J's Pot Magok works for both eating alone and a team dinner.

8 broths at J's Pot Magok: order a set or mix your own

- Beef set
- Mala set
- Tomato set
The three most popular broths at J's Pot Magok COEX Branch come as ready-made sets, so you don't have to agonize over choosing.

But we decided to pick exactly what we felt like eating!
- Beef, mala, Mongolian
- Tomato, kimchi, tom yum
- Katsuo, tonkotsu
Have you ever been to a hot pot place with this many broth options...? The order goes: pick your broth first, then meat → platter → noodles/rice → meatballs. If you feel the set portions aren't quite enough, you can also add extra vegetables or noodles.

J's Pot has a wide range of dishes, from solo hot pot to Chinese-style cooked dishes. The orange chicken and General Tso's chicken looked so good I was curious! If you're visiting for a work dinner or group gathering, adding one of these cooked dishes seems like a great idea.
The sauce bar at J's Pot Magok and what to combine
I think this sauce bar might be exactly what makes solo hot pot better than solo shabu-shabu. At J's Pot Magok COEX Branch, not only are there plenty of ingredients to mix at the sauce bar, but it's kept really clean, which made it even more satisfying. Kimchi and jajangchae (pickled radish) are also at the sauce bar, so you can help yourself as much as you like!

They even have suggested sauce combinations written out, so first-timers to hot pot can still make a delicious sauce.

But honestly, I just made mine however I wanted. Thick peanut sauce plus clear, tangy soy sauce — that combo is unbeatable. By the time I finished mixing my sauce, the table was already set. The food comes out fast too, so Magok office workers can stop by for lunch without worrying about time.
Beef broth hot pot with beef, mushroom platter, meatballs and rice

My combination was beef broth hot pot with beef, mushroom platter, meat meatballs, and rice. I'm personally not a big noodle person, so I went with plain white rice instead. The vegetable platter shown above comes included as standard — napa cabbage, bean sprouts, mushrooms, bok choy, and even tofu skin, generously portioned enough that you don't need to add extra vegetables.

The beef looked clean and fresh with hardly any fat, and the meat meatballs tasted like a hamburger patty when I tried them.
Mala broth hot pot with lamb, tofu platter, shrimp meatballs and glass noodles
My friend's combination was mala broth hot pot with lamb, tofu platter, shrimp meatballs, and Chinese glass noodles. She said the lamb had almost no gamey smell, and the shrimp meatballs really showed off their handmade, plump appearance. Oh, and the noodle options were seriously varied too! Newjin noodles, corn noodles, glass noodles (bunmoja) — all the noodle types that pair well with hot pot, present and accounted for.

On the far left is the tofu platter, in the middle is the fuzhu we ordered as an extra, and on the right is the mushroom platter. Every single ingredient stood out for its freshness and clean quality at this Magok COEX restaurant, J's Pot.

How did the beef and mala broths taste?
You all know that dumping in all the vegetables is what makes it delicious, right?! Whether it's shabu-shabu or hot pot, letting the vegetable broth develop is the key 🗝️
My hot pot came to a bubbling boil quickly. The beef broth tasted exactly like clean shabu-shabu! It's a clear meat broth flavor that pretty much anyone would like without complaint. I'll admit, when it first arrived and I saw the jujubes and an orange-ish spice-looking thing in it, I flinched a bit?! But there wasn't any strongly off-putting smell in the end.

As expected from something that looked this good quality, the meat was tender and delicious too. Eating meat with vegetables together was really filling — a dish that would suit these colder days perfectly.

My friend's mala broth looked quite red, so I wondered if it would be really intense — but she said it turned out to be a surprisingly clear, clean mala flavor. Along with the plump shrimp meatballs she'd been bragging about 🦐, we both finished a fully satisfying, filling meal.
If you're looking for a good restaurant at Magok COEX, I'd recommend this solo hot pot spot, J's Pot.
Magok hot pot lovers would be happy running straight here. Solo dining is totally doable too, so feel free to stop by anytime without hesitation!
