Hot pot at Magok Mercure Hotel, Seoul: galbisal and brisket at J's Pot

While staying at the Magok Mercure Hotel with my mom, we stopped by J's Pot on basement level 2 and had hot pot :) The place has a great atmosphere and is spacious, so there were a lot of families and groups having company dinners too. Since you can each pick your own broth and ingredients, I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for good hot pot near Magongnaru.

Where is J's Pot Magok Branch?

J's Pot Magok Branch is at Unit 208, basement level 2, COEX Magok Tower A, 143 Magok-jungang-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's in the same building as the Magok Mercure Hotel, so you just need to head down from the hotel.

Hot pot sets and menu choices at J's Pot Magok

J's Pot has a range of menu items starting with their signature hot pot sets. At lunch you can get a set with added meat and fish balls at a discounted price, and there are also personal hot pot dishes, fried rice, and a kids' menu, so it looked like a solid option for a family meal too. If you're looking for somewhere to eat near the Magok Mercure Hotel, this is worth checking out.

A spacious dining room that works for group dinners

The J's Pot Magok store was really spacious and had a comfortable atmosphere haha. There are long tables set up so groups can sit and eat together, and I actually saw a lot of people there for company dinners. If you're looking for a group hot pot spot near Magongnaru, this one would work well.

The self-bar: sauces, vegetables and broth refills

On one side there's a sauce self-bar. You can make your own sauce exactly how you like it, and refill vegetables as needed too, so you can enjoy the hot pot to your own taste. You can also refill the broth whenever needed, which made things easy throughout the meal.

Personal hot pots: each person picks their own broth

We each picked a broth to suit our own taste. Mom went with the bonito broth, and I picked the mala hot pot broth. Since it's not a shared pot but individual personal pots, it was comfortable even though our tastes were different~ It's also a great place to stop for dinner while staying at the Magok Mercure Hotel.

A generous assorted vegetable plate

The assorted vegetable plate has mushrooms, napa cabbage, fried tofu, bok choy, wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts and more. You can eat a good variety of vegetables and ingredients, and it was great that you could keep refilling any vegetables you ran low on at the self-bar. Loading up on vegetables made the broth taste even richer, too! 🥬

Adding galbisal, brisket, meatballs and shrimp balls

For the hot pot set, there's also a vegetarian option with just vegetables, and you can order your choice of meat too. We added galbisal and beef brisket for meat. For the meatballs, we picked meatball and shrimp ball — adding whatever ingredients we wanted one by one meant we could build a hot pot exactly to our own liking.

How to cook it: add ingredients once the broth boils

Once the broth starts boiling hard, you just add the prepared ingredients one at a time in whatever order you like. From vegetables to meat to meatballs, you just add and cook whatever you want to eat, so the process was easy. Since it's a personal pot, being able to add exactly as much of each ingredient as you wanted was convenient too.

Came for the galbisal, but the beef brisket won

One of the reasons I came to J's Pot was the galbisal, and it really was delicious. ㅠㅠ ❤️ But the beef brisket we ordered alongside it held its own too. Cooking the meat in the mala broth, the savory flavor paired really well with the spicy soup. If you're looking for hot pot around the Magok Mercure Hotel, I'd say it's worth trying a variety of meats too!

Sweet and sour pork as a side dish

It felt like a shame to just have hot pot, so we ordered sweet and sour pork as a side too. Dipping the crispy fried pork in sauce meant we got to enjoy a completely different dish alongside the hot pot.
