Busanjin Korean BBQ birthday dinner with a mini brazier: Anmin Busan

In short

Anmin Busan is a staff-grilled Korean BBQ restaurant in Busanjin, Busan. For a birthday dinner, I ordered the half whole-pig set, fresh chestnut stone-pot rice, and Hwang doenjang crab stew for 41,000 won, 5,000 won, and 6,000 won. Verdict: a satisfying choice for a proper, atmospheric meat dinner.

It was my birthday recently, so I ended up in Seomyeon. While wondering what to eat, I decided I wanted a really proper piece of meat this time, so I visited Anmin, a Seomyeon Korean BBQ spot known for having staff grill the meat for you. To give you the conclusion first: I was completely satisfied!

What is the atmosphere like at Anmin Busan in Seomyeon?

Located right next to Kanda Soba in Seomyeon, Anmin looked impressive from the outside. Dark stone walls, a neat wooden door, and a sign accented with red lighting! It had the air of an upscale meat dining bar you might find in Cheongdam-dong.

The sign said “Korean MEAT Dining Bar,” and that description suited it perfectly.

Once inside, the space was much larger than it had looked from outside.

The tables were well spaced, and bamboo decorations here and there gave it a private feel. It would be perfect for a date or for bringing someone you want to treat.

I had made a reservation in advance, so I was shown to a neatly set table. You could really tell they had paid attention to everything, from the individual tableware to the water bottle.

Looking over the menu, I saw that you could order individual cuts, but I chose the half whole-pig set (₩41,000) to taste several cuts at once, along with Hwang doenjang crab stew (₩6,000) and fresh chestnut stone-pot rice (₩5,000).

After ordering, the thing that caught my eye most was the guide card on one side of the table. It explained in detail how to enjoy the meat even more deliciously. With seasonings such as Maldon salt, curry bean powder, and cumin, plus sauces like shiitake wasabi and hairtail fish jeot (salted seafood), I was excited to taste the meat in all sorts of ways.

Then came the generous assortment of banchan (Korean side dishes)! There were neatly plated pickles and fresh ssam (wrap) vegetables.

At Anmin, when you order meat, they take it straight from the meat-aging fridge set up on one side of the restaurant and trim it for you. The bright-red pork looked fresh at a glance, which gave me confidence.

The half whole-pig set came with pork belly, pork neck, and herbal pork rind. Can you see how thick the cuts were? The balance of bright-red lean meat and fat was truly a work of art, haha.

Finally, it was time to put the meat on the grill! Anmin is a Seomyeon Korean BBQ restaurant where the staff grill everything themselves, which was so convenient.

They placed the thick cuts of meat, mushrooms, and vegetables on the blazing-hot grill and cooked them beautifully with expert skill. The delicious smell and sound of the meat cooking had me swallowing hard.

Once the meat was nicely browned, they cut it into bite-size pieces and placed it on a mini brazier so it would not get cold. I loved being able to eat every last piece while it was still warm thanks to that mini brazier.

I picked up a piece of the finished meat and tried it first without any sauce. The juices filling my mouth and the rich, nutty flavor were absolutely fantastic. I had worried that the meat might be tough because it was so thick, but perhaps because it had been aged well, it was incredibly tender and pleasantly chewy.

Next, I lightly dipped it in Maldon salt as the guide card suggested, then tried it topped with shiitake wasabi. Each had a different charm.

Fresh chestnut stone-pot rice and Hwang doenjang crab stew

The fresh chestnut stone-pot rice that arrived first was freshly cooked rice filled with sweet chestnuts.

When I took a big spoonful, the rice grains were fluffy and separate, and the sweet chestnuts had such a lovely bite. It was truly delicious.

After scooping out the rice and pouring in water to make sungnyung (scorched-rice tea), the richness from the meat disappeared completely.

And the Hwang doenjang crab stew had such a refreshing, clean broth.

It was generously filled with crab, making the broth even deeper and richer. It was not salty, but packed with savory flavor—it was the ultimate rice thief. Even though I had eaten my fill of meat, I polished off a whole bowl of rice in no time.

I had a truly satisfying meal in Seomyeon for the first time in a while. If you want to enjoy top-quality meat grilled for you in a place with a great atmosphere, I highly recommend Anmin, the Seomyeon Korean BBQ restaurant. The upscale interior, kind service, and above all, excellent meat mean you will not regret it. I am planning to come back with my parents next time!
