Daegu Japanese restaurant with mala tonkotsu ramen: Myeonsikdang

In short

Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae is a ramen and soba restaurant on Yeongsong-ro in Buk-gu, Daegu, right in front of Daegu Health College. The 2-person set came with mala tonkotsu ramen, mazesoba (mixed noodles), mini butadon and a half order of hire katsu, and the mala broth settled a hangover from the night before while the leftover mazesoba sauce got mixed with the free mini rice bowl. Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae is a great-value noodle spot where two people can share one set and leave completely stuffed.

The free side dishes

First they warmed our stomachs with hot udon broth, and brought kimchi and pickled radish too, which I dutifully finished off alongside everything else.

What comes in the 2-person set?

2-person set table spread at Myeonsikdang

We ordered the 2-person set! Mala Tonkotsu Ramen / Mageumsoba / Mini Butadon / Hire Katsu (half)

Mala tonkotsu ramen piled high with bean sprouts

Mala tonkotsu ramen: the hangover cure

First up, the mala tonkotsu ramen. Just look at this massive pile of bean sprouts.

Noodles beneath the sprouts in mala tonkotsu ramen

Underneath the sprouts there's a generous portion of noodles too.

Broth and meat in mala tonkotsu ramen
Noodles lifted from mala tonkotsu ramen

This mala broth genuinely slaps. I'd been drinking with friends the night before, and this fixed me right up — instant hangover cure territory. The meat is generous too, seriously recommend. You have to try this one.

Mageumsoba topped with egg

Mazesoba mixed with the free mini rice bowl

Next up, mageumsoba (mixed cold noodles)! They pop the egg first

Egg being popped on mageumsoba

and now it's time to mix it up properly.

Mageumsoba mixed together

Look how glossy that is? Textbook mageumsoba.

A bite of mageumsoba noodles
Vinegar added to mageumsoba

After eating about half, add some vinegar and the savoriness gets maxed out. And of course, with mageumsoba you've got to mix in rice at the end too, right? So we ordered the extra rice (애기밥). Free, obviously.

Extra rice mixed into mageumsoba sauce

This is it — mixing the rice into the leftover sauce at the end is pure paradise. But fair warning, the portion is huge, so come prepared..

Plate of hire katsu (half order)
Cross-section of crispy hire katsu

Side: hire katsu, half order

First side dish: hire katsu. Nice and crispy, and it pairs really well with the ramen and soba.

Smoky-flavored mini butadon

Side: mini butadon

Next side dish is the butadon. This has an insane smoky char flavor.

Meat and rice in mini butadon

The smoky flavor you get in your mouth is seriously... and the portion is huge too, I thought I was going to burst.

A glass of green grape ade

This is the green grape ade. Give it a good stir before drinking.

Restrooms, aprons and other facilities

Interior facilities area of the restaurant

The restroom is inside so you don't need to step outside. Aprons are available too, of course. And if you're sitting at the solo counter, there's an outlet so you can charge your phone.

Tips before you go

Sign about free drink with review event

If they're running a review event, you get a free drink! No reason not to do it. And if you sit at the solo counter, you can watch the whole world go by outside. When we visited, they were repaving the road, so we got to watch the construction too.

Is Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae worth it?

Final table spread of the 2-person set at Myeonsikdang

That was my review of Myeonsikdang, where I sampled a whole range of noodle dishes near Daegu Health College. It's perfect for coming with friends for lunch or dinner. Kind of jealous of the Daegu Health College students honestly. If you're going as a pair, I highly recommend the 2-person set.
