Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae is a great-value restaurant where you can have a hearty meal without breaking the bank. I visited on a whim while going to see a friend who lives near Daegu Health College, suddenly craving mazesoba. I actually used to come here often back in my student days because it was such good value — feels like it's been ages since I last visited.

Maybe because it's near Daegu Health College, Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae draws a lot of students. Sure enough, there were plenty of student customers when I visited, and since it's a spot students frequent often, the prices are pretty easy on the wallet too.

Inside Myeonsikdang: seating and the self-serve bar

Wood-toned interior seating at Myeonsikdang
Window solo-dining seat and 2-top and 4-top tables

The interior of Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae was clean with a wood-tone finish. There were window seats good for solo dining, along with tables of various sizes including 2-tops and 4-tops. One thing that was a bit disappointing was that the 2-person tables were smaller than expected, which could feel cramped if you order several dishes.

Self-serve bar with water and side dishes
Kimchi and pickled radish at the self-serve bar

There was a self-serve bar on one side where you could help yourself to basic side dishes like water, kimchi, and pickled radish as much as you wanted. I was so hungry before the food came out that I scooped up a bowl of jangguk (savory broth) and just inhaled it... it's honestly just an ordinary broth flavor, but for some reason it tasted amazing that day... hahahahahaha

How does Myeonsikdang's tonkotsu ramen taste?

A bowl of tonkotsu ramen with rich broth
Chashu and egg on top of the tonkotsu ramen
Noodles lifted from the tonkotsu ramen

The tonkotsu ramen had an incredibly rich broth. That distinctive savory, deep pork bone flavor was so good, and honestly that chashu and egg were true MVPs...(>‿♥) It was seasoned with just the right saltiness, so taking a bite of noodles first and then a sip of broth right after is basically a knockout combo.

Handmade pork loin katsu and its two dipping sauces

The handmade pork loin katsu had thick-cut meat, yet it wasn't tough at all — super tender. Crispy outside, juicy inside, the ultimate version of that combo, I'd say...

Two sauces came with it — one mild, one spicy — so you could pick according to your taste. And the wasabi-and-salt combo... well, that's such a classic pairing there's really nothing more to say.

Smoky mini butadon

Mini butadon vs. mini kimchi butadon: which one wins?

And then the mini butadon! The smoky flavor on this is no joke. It was seasoned so well it was almost like the meat had been dipped straight into fire. Being a mini portion, the quantity was disappointingly small, ugh. Next time I'm definitely ordering the full-size butadon.

Mini kimchi butadon topped with stir-fried kimchi

This one's the mini kimchi butadon, which feels like regular butadon with stir-fried kimchi added on top. It had its own charm too, but personally I preferred the butadon without kimchi! My friend said this one was better though, so it seems to come down to personal taste.

Is Myeonsikdang near Daegu Health College worth it?

Overall, Myeonsikdang Daegu Bogeondae was an easy, light meal option with prices that don't feel like a burden and a good variety of menu items. Personally, I loved the combo of the rich tonkotsu ramen and the properly smoky mini butadon, and with so many menu items under ₩10,000, it also looked like a solid spot for students or solo diners. If you're looking for a good-value meal near Daegu Health College, I'd recommend it!
