Gwangju pork galbi with sofa seats, 500-won ice cream: Jeongwon Galbi

My friend and I were craving pork galbi, and I heard there was a great spot in Gwangju, so we went to Jeongwon Galbi~!

Personally I liked that the seats were sofa seats, super comfortable

What I personally really loved was that there was a separate space next to the seat for storing bags. At other BBQ places there's usually nowhere good to put your bag, so I end up putting it on the chair or the floor — but here there was a storage space right next to the seat, so it was super convenient!

Both sofa seats and regular table seats were available, so you could choose based on preference or group size, and each table had a partition, giving a sense of separation from neighboring tables for a more private meal!

Plus there was a separate 2nd floor space, which seemed great for company dinners, family outings, or gatherings with a lot of people. The space is spacious so it doesn't feel too crowded, making it a comfortable place to visit as a group.

Ordering 3 servings of pork galbi and doenjang stew

We ordered 3 servings of pork galbi, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), 1 bowl of rice, and cold noodles for dessert!

Looking at nearby tables, a lot of people were having galbitang (short rib soup) as their meal, and some were ordering beef too. Beyond pork galbi, they have a variety of meal options and beef dishes, so it felt like a place you could choose from depending on the occasion — lunch, family outing, company dinner, etc.

The side dishes are really well done too. There's a wide variety and each one comes out neatly, so they went well alongside the meat, and the meal felt generous without ever running short.

How much is 250g of pork galbi per serving?

What I liked here was that the pork galbi is based on 250g per serving. It's usually a more generous portion than other places, so even ordering just 3 servings felt plentiful, and the meat was thick, which made eating it really satisfying.

The best side dish: seasoned raw crab

The side dishes come out really generously overall, so I think you'd be satisfied even just ordering a meal dish. Among them, the seasoned crab was the tastiest! The seasoning wasn't too intense and had great umami, going perfectly with rice — it was a side dish I kept reaching for.

The doenjang stew had a really clean, refreshing broth flavor. It wasn't salty or heavy, so it had a light taste that went perfectly with the pork galbi, and it was packed with vegetables, making it feel even more generous and delicious.

Were the cold noodles a good finish?

Since it's a dessert portion, the amount was a bit small, but the umami flavor was really great! The nutty aroma of sesame oil blended well with the seasoning, making it a flavor I kept reaching for, and pairing it with the pork galbi was such a great combination. It was also a perfect dessert for cleansing the palate after eating meat. Next time I'll order a full-size portion, or maybe get individual cold noodles each :)

Self-service bar, baby chairs and 500-won ice cream

The self-bar overall was tidy and well maintained, making it easy to use, and it felt hygienic which was even better. There was also a good variety of side dishes prepared, so being able to freely take as much as you wanted was a big plus!

There were also baby chairs available, so families visiting with kids could eat comfortably. It gave the impression of a place that pays careful attention so families can visit without worry.

After the meal, you could get ice cream for just 500 won 🍦. It's a small touch of service that made even the kids happy when visiting as a family outing, which was even better!

A gacha machine at the entrance! There were lucky boxes and Mentos for a palate cleanser afterward — it caught my eye.

There was also a coffee vending machine, which seemed nice to use after the meal!

How to join the review event at Jeongwon Galbi

The restaurant was also running an Instagram/Naver review event! Participating gets you a free drink, which was nice to enjoy along with the meal. However, you can't join both Instagram and Naver — only one participation is allowed, so keep that in mind :)

Final verdict on Jeongwon Galbi Gyeonggi Gwangju Branch

There was a mirror on the way out after paying, so I took a solo shot! Overall the meat quality was really great, making it a very satisfying meal. The meat was fresh and tender, so I enjoyed it deliciously right to the end!

Above all, the owner was really kind, so I had a pleasant time throughout the meal. The taste, portion, and service were all satisfying, so I'd 100% return next time! 😊
