Siheung bulgogi restaurant with a lawn for kids: Bulhyangjip

In short

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is a charcoal bulgogi restaurant that opened last December inside the Mulwang-dong food village in Siheung, Gyeonggi. Four adults and two children sat at a 6-person lawn-view table and shared charcoal scallion bulgogi (₩15,900), charcoal gochujang bulgogi and bibim noodles (₩9,000), and Bulhyangjip even brought out a kids' tray and dried laver for the children. For a family meal near Mulwang Lake without a long wait, Bulhyangjip was the answer.

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is a charcoal bulgogi restaurant tucked inside Mulwang-dong food village in Siheung. I found a hidden gem that's not even a year old!

It's pretty deep inside the food village, so I wondered how anyone would find it — but everyone did, haha. We went as a family, 4 adults and 2 kids, and had such a relaxing meal looking out at the lush green lawn view. Let me introduce Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch.

They said it opened around last December. If you go further up to the right of the restaurant, there's a big parking lot!

Park in the spacious lot, then walk back around to the front of the restaurant to enter, haha.

Why Bulhyangjip works with kids: catching grasshoppers on the lawn beside the parking lot

There's a lawn between the Bulhyangjip parking lot and the restaurant, haha, and there are TONS of grasshoppers there. Before going in, my now-grandpa dad and my niece spent ages catching grasshoppers, haha. They even caught a rare praying mantis, lol. They played bug-catching for a long while before going in. It's seriously perfect for a family outing... haha.

Little bonus point: there's also an outdoor rest area, haha. The weather was nice so it was great sitting outside chatting too.

Can you bring a dog to Bulhyangjip?

  • ✔️ Large dogs and dangerous breeds not allowed
  • ✔️ Proof of vaccination / vaccination booklet required (no entry without it)
  • ✔️ Must bring a stroller or pet carrier to enter

Just check a few things before visiting.

If there's a wait, they use Catch Table. They're open as usual on Chuseok too — a must-know for anyone eating out at Mulwang Lake during the holiday!

Kid-friendly spot banner and floor-seating tables

Inside Bulhyangjip: mostly 6-person tables, with lawn-view window seats the most popular

A spacious interior appears! And a standing banner catches your eye — it's been named a spot recommended for visiting with kids by a place called Mammam. Apparently joining their membership gets you a ₩7,000 discount!!

Looking into it, there's even a one-day membership pass — buy it for ₩1,900 and get a ₩7,000 discount, that sounds like a steal, haha.

Anyway... next to the banner there are floor-seating tables too, so if that's more comfortable for you, sit there. I wondered where everyone else went, and it turned out

everyone had crowded around the spots with the lawn view facing the parking lot. Since those are 6-person tables, they were packed with families and groups. Maybe because the weather was so nice, but just the green scenery out the window was healing in itself.

Self-serve bar, charcoal bulgogi and the little touches for kids

Table setting with chwinamul, gosari, and kongnamul side dishes

Whoa, this place is good with side dishes, haha. The three namul (seasoned vegetable) sides — chwinamul (aster greens), gosari (bracken fern), kongnamul (bean sprouts) — are seasoned really deliciously.

Bulhyangjip's self-serve bar with ssam vegetables and namul

And the Bulhyangjip self-serve bar is really well stocked too. Besides those three namul, there are tons of ssam (wrap) vegetables — lettuce, perilla leaves, chicory, kale, red chard, mustard leaves, it's super varied. You know how adults love ssam vegetables, right...? Mom and dad said the namul were delicious and the ssam vegetables too, so they went back for more several times.

Plate of various ssam vegetables gathered from the self-serve bar

The default ssam vegetables they bring you are just perilla leaves and lettuce, so make sure to go to the self-serve bar and load up on the variety!!

Namul side dishes eaten with rice

A restaurant that's good at namul is truly a restaurant that's good at cooking... it's so delicious.

Before eating, I took a photo of my beloved family first (dad went to get ssam vegetables so it's just his hand in the shot, haha).

Kids' trays and Gwangcheon laver for the children

And check out this attention to detail... baby chairs were obviously provided, and since we mentioned two kids, they gave us two kids' trays with utensils, and even Gwangcheon dried laver!!!! I was touched, so touched.

The kids ate so much better eating like this... okay, now let's go eat the bulgogi.

Before going in, you can watch the meat being grilled right in front of you, which is fun to watch. You can see them grilling the meat, spreading the scallions, scattering the scallions, flipping technique — all of it, haha. And here's the finished charcoal bulgogi scallion pancake-style dish below

A plate of charcoal scallion bulgogi that looks like a scallion pancake

What does Bulhyangjip's charcoal scallion bulgogi taste like?

Wait, isn't this literally a scallion pancake?? Haha, this is the first time I've seen charcoal bulgogi come out looking like a scallion pancake, haha.

Charcoal scallion bulgogi piled high with grilled scallions

It passed the visual test right away, and there's a huge pile of scallions on top of the pork bulgogi — since they're grilled scallions, they bring out a subtle sweetness that's really delicious.

Bulgogi and scallions dipped in the special sauce

Dip the meat and scallions in this special sauce, then pile it on a ssam vegetable — insanely good. The charcoal bulgogi isn't as salty as you'd think, so dipping it once in the salty sauce and then adding a perilla leaf on top adds the charcoal's smoky flavor plus the perilla's fragrant taste — oh man, it's so good my niece ate it right up, and my parents ate it up too!!

A generous serving of charcoal gochujang bulgogi

Is the charcoal gochujang bulgogi spicy? Mild enough for an elementary-schooler

Yes, this is the visual we all know for charcoal bulgogi, haha. The charcoal gochujang bulgogi came piled up high, haha. It comes already cooked, so you just gently mix it up and eat.

By the way, isn't this green lawn view so healing? Even just looking at photos of it puts you in a good mood. Once the gochujang bulgogi gets that charcoal aroma, how could it not be delicious. I thought gochujang bulgogi would be pretty spicy, but it's actually not that spicy?

It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, so even my elementary-school niece could eat it, haha. Both the plain charcoal bulgogi and the gochujang bulgogi are total rice thieves. If you come with family, ordering half plain charcoal bulgogi and half gochujang bulgogi lets you enjoy a variety.

If I had to compare, the scallion charcoal bulgogi, which is sort of the signature dish, was more delicious, haha (unanimous vote). If you're visiting with 2-3 people, I'd recommend the scallion charcoal bulgogi over the gochujang bulgogi!!

Bulhyangjip bibim noodles, ₩9,000: sweet and broth-based

And here comes this amazing dish... Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles. It's called bibim (mixed) noodles, but it comes with a broth like mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup).

Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles served with broth

But this seasoning is really sweet and spicy at the same time, and the savory flavor is insane. There's also a ton of sesame seeds on top, so scooping it up is deliciously nutty. If I had to describe the flavor I got from it... it's like they turned the seasoning you'd use for lettuce salad into a broth, haha. Tastes like there's soy sauce in it, and maybe fish sauce too, haha.

A chopstick-full of bibim noodles covered in sesame seeds

It's sweet and salty, so eating it together with the charcoal bulgogi is amazingly good, haha. It tastes different from the typical spicy-sour bibim noodles people usually think of, so it's worth trying once, haha.

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch: final verdict

  • ✅ Highly recommended spot for a family meal at Mulwang Lake
  • ✅ Recommended charcoal bulgogi restaurant at Mulwang Lake!!
  • ✅ Lots of 6-person tables, great for family meals and gatherings
  • ✅ A place where your eyes and mouth both get healed by the green lawn view
  • ✅ Thoughtful touches like the kids' tray and dried laver ❤️

Unlike the truly main restaurants right by Mulwang Lake, the wait here isn't bad. If you're going on a family outing to Mulwang Lake and want a delicious meal without a long wait, this is the place I'd recommend.

If you have kids, go catch grasshoppers and maybe a praying mantis on the lawn out back together, haha. Healing your eyes with that green lawn view and healing your mouth eating charcoal bulgogi — it was a truly healing kind of place. If you're looking for a new spot at Mulwang Lake that's less than a year old, I recommend Bulhyangjip!!
