Bulhyangjip by Mulwang Reservoir in Siheung: lunch after a drive
I was searching for a good meat restaurant near Mulwang Reservoir in Siheung for lunch with my parents when I found Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch. It's a great stop for lunch after a drive around the lake, and there's parking for about 30 cars right behind the building, so it was easy to visit by car. The restaurant feels like it's set in the middle of a forest, so you get a mood boost from the nature-friendly view on the drive over and delicious charcoal bulgogi to eat — two birds with one stone haha😙

Main hall, private room or terrace window seat — where to sit at Bulhyangjip
This Mulwang Reservoir favorite has three seating options: main hall, private room, and terrace. In the main hall you can watch the first-grill fire show and it's convenient for using the self-serve bar; the private room is good for groups or eating with kids; and the terrace has the best view, so you can eat charcoal-grilled meat while looking out at the nature-friendly scenery. When we visited, exactly one terrace seat happened to be free, so we sat there and had a great lunch with a beautiful view — lucky!💛
The food is great, but the restaurant is also clean and has a nice view, so older folks especially love it. Seriously recommend bringing your parents here!!

They grill the meat the moment you order, coating it evenly with that charcoal fire flavor🔥 — with that much care put in, it can't not be delicious. The restaurant is clean and you can watch the first-grill fire show right in front of you, making it a distinctive spot you can also trust to be hygienic!!

What is on the self-serve side dish bar
They set out the basic side dishes for you, and you can grab more from the self-serve bar in the middle of the hall if you run out. There's seasoned bean sprouts, seasoned chwinamul (aster greens), bracken fern, napa cabbage kimchi, cabbage salad, pickled julienned radish, various vegetables, and ssamjang (dipping paste). They said everything is made in-house, and the seasoning is mild so you keep reaching for more — and best of all, the vegetables were really fresh.

6 servings for 4 people: what we ordered and what it cost
The terrace seats we were shown to! The view through the floor-to-ceiling window was pure art — I bet it'd be gorgeous visiting again in winter with snow on the ground,,☃️ Once you order, the staff sets up all the side dishes for you. We ordered 4 servings of charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi, 2 servings of charcoal gochujang bulgogi, countryside grandma doenjang jjigae, and Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles (we're big eaters so 4 of us ordered 6 servings😙)
- Charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi (200g) 4 servings ₩63,600
- Charcoal gochujang bulgogi (200g) 2 servings ₩31,800
- Countryside grandma doenjang jjigae ₩5,000
- Bulhyangjip bibim noodles ₩9,000
- Rice (2 bowls) ₩2,000

This Mulwang Reservoir favorite's main menu includes charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi, charcoal gochujang bulgogi, and first-grilled pork belly. Side dishes include Bulhyangjip's bibim noodles, countryside grandma doenjang jjigae, and mom's-hand steamed egg. The first order must be at least 2 servings of the same dish, and since the main dishes don't come with a meal, items like doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, and rice need to be ordered separately!
How does the charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi taste?
True to its name, the charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi had a really nice subtle smoky charcoal aroma. The bulgogi was sweet and savory with well-absorbed seasoning, and the smoky flavor made it taste much richer than regular bulgogi. The meat was tender, not chewy at all, and kept pulling me back in with every bite of sauce. The scallion pancake had both crispy and moist parts, giving it great texture, and the fragrant, nutty scallion flavor paired really well with the bulgogi. Piling bulgogi on top of the pancake and eating them together — the sweet bulgogi and nutty pancake worked so well together, it was genuinely delicious. Thanks to that distinct charcoal smokiness, I never got tired of it till the end!

Lettuce wraps with Bulhyangjip's house sauce
Wrapping the bulgogi and julienned radish in lettuce was also really delicious. The crisp, tangy-sweet radish went really well with the sweet bulgogi, making for a clean bite. Dipping the bulgogi into the special sauce added an extra layer of sweetness to the seasoning, giving it a different kind of appeal. The sweet, savory sauce paired so well with the bulgogi that the more I dipped, the better it tasted😙

Countryside grandma doenjang jjigae and Bulhyangjip bibim noodles
The countryside grandma doenjang jjigae had a deep, savory soybean paste flavor that was delicious. It came out bubbling hot right after we ordered, which was even better, and mixing the savory stew into a warm bowl of rice was genuinely great. It had a deep, savory flavor without being harsh, making it perfect with rice — mixing the hot stew into rice was pure bliss, and I polished off a whole bowl just like that,,👍

Bulhyangjip's signature bibim noodles had chewy, springy noodles with great texture, and the seasoning was sweet and savory, which was delicious. It went especially well eaten with the charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi. Pairing the sweet bibim noodles with the smoky bulgogi brought out the best in both, so I kept reaching for more,,💛

The extra 2 servings of charcoal gochujang bulgogi
We felt like something was missing so we ordered 2 more servings of the charcoal gochujang bulgogi! The charcoal gochujang bulgogi had a spicy-sweet gochujang seasoning layered with that distinct charcoal smokiness, and it was delicious. The seasoning soaked well into the meat for great savoriness, and the subtle smokiness made the flavor feel even richer. Best of all, it wasn't too salty, just a gentle, savory flavor — loved it!

This Mulwang Reservoir favorite in Siheung is a great spot to visit for a family gathering after a drive around the reservoir, letting you enjoy delicious charcoal bulgogi with a nature-friendly view. It's good value and the portions are generous, so even a family of big eaters can eat here without worrying about the cost! Next time I want to come back in winter and have the smoky charcoal bulgogi and hot countryside grandma doenjang jjigae again,,😙
