A great location for returning-home food near Incheon Airport too

I visited Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Main Branch, a Yeongjong shabu-shabu restaurant that's handy whether you're out at Eulwangni or Gueupbaetteo, or looking for a meal near Incheon Airport right before or after a flight.

The inside is really spacious and clean, so it's a good Gueupbaetteo-area restaurant for families or groups. There's a playroom and baby chairs too, which makes it a nice pick for eating out with kids.

Salad bar — unlimited rice-paper roll and shabu-shabu ingredients

The self-serve bar was kept really tidy. The moment the rice-paper roll or shabu-shabu ingredients looked even a little low, staff came right over and refilled them.

Display of unlimited beef and vegetables

Along with a wide variety of vegetables, you can even get unlimited beef refills at this Gueupbaetteo restaurant, Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Yeongjong Sky City branch!

Bean sprouts, oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, napa cabbage, sujebi (hand-torn dough soup), fish cake, dumplings, glass noodles — lots of fresh, well-kept ingredients to build your own shabu-shabu however you like.

The rice-paper roll ingredients, neatly prepped and ready to eat, are unlimited too!

A hot food zone kids love

True to a Gueupbaetteo restaurant that's good for family dining, there was also a wide range of food that kids love: dinner rolls with strawberry jam, and corn salad.

Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and cream soup were all kept warm and ready too, so there was plenty of variety at this Gueupbaetteo restaurant, Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Yeongjong Sky City branch.

Lunch is 16,900 won, and even the cypress steam is unlimited

The highlight of this Yeongjong shabu-shabu restaurant is the cypress steam (pyeonbaek-jjim). At Pyeonbaek Hoegwan, 16,900 won gets you unlimited cypress steam, shabu-shabu, and everything on the salad bar. What sets this place apart is that even the cypress steam itself is refillable.

While the cypress steam was cooking, I piled my plate with food from the hot food zone and rice-paper roll ingredients, whatever caught my eye.

Cypress steam as hangover food after a night of drinking

When the timer goes off, staff open the lid of the cypress steamer for you. Tender, juicy beef, plump shrimp, and vegetables soaked in fragrant broth — it's healthy and it's great hangover food the morning after. If you've been out drinking hard at Eulwangni or Gueupbaetteo, this is a solid Yeongjong hangover-food restaurant to fill up healthily and heartily the next day.

I made rice-paper rolls loaded with crunchy vegetables and juicy meat. There were so many rice-paper roll ingredients to choose from that it was genuinely fun mixing different combinations — and healthy on top of it all!

I dipped the fragrant, cypress-scented juicy beef and bean sprouts into ponzu sauce.

After the cypress steam, a half-and-half katsuo and spicy mushroom shabu-shabu

Once you finish the cypress steam, you can choose to get more of it refilled or switch to shabu-shabu. I needed some hangover soup, so I asked for shabu-shabu — a half-and-half order of katsuo broth and spicy mushroom broth.

The two broths starting to boil

While the broth was coming to a boil, staff brought out the meat and shabu-shabu ingredients. They bring the meat out in portions as you eat it, so it doesn't sit and thaw out — a nice touch for keeping it tasty. At this Gueupbaetteo restaurant, the beef is also unlimited, so you can grab as much of your favorite cut as you like.

Beef and vegetables brought out for shabu-shabu

I dropped in plenty of vegetables and meat to cook. The broth wasn't overly sharp or salty, which made it feel even healthier. Being able to taste the natural flavor of the meat and vegetables made this Gueupbaetteo restaurant, Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Yeongjong Sky City branch, all the more satisfying.

A totally different charm from the moist, mild cypress steam — the broth at Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Main Branch in particular was really rich and good, with wonderful savory depth soaked into the meat and vegetables. The mala broth wasn't overpoweringly strong either, so even mala beginners could enjoy it. That was Pyeonbaek Hoegwan, my Eulwangni and Gueupbaetteo shabu-shabu spot in Yeongjong, Incheon.
