Seoul Station Japanese restaurant for a solo lunch with sides: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a sirloin gyukatsu (breaded cutlet) restaurant in an underground shopping arcade at Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. I was passing by Seoul Station and needed to grab a solo lunch, and that day I was craving gyukatsu (breaded cutlet) so badly that I headed straight to Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch!!
Since I was pretty hungry too, I went ahead and ordered the signature sirloin gyukatsu plus karaage & fried shrimp and even mini curry lol. It was lunch for one, but I set myself up with a proper full spread!!

Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch
A good atmosphere for solo lunch or a date at Seoul Station
The moment I walked in, the first thing that caught my eye was a huge meat model!! lol
Inside, there were seats perfect for a comfortable solo meal as well as seats suited for dates or group visits.
Seoul Station sees so much foot traffic — from office workers to travelers — so there are plenty of people looking for a place to eat alone, right?

The vibe made it easy to walk in and have a satisfying meal without any pressure, so it seemed like a solid option for anyone looking for a solo lunch spot near Seoul Station.
What I ordered and the prices

- Sirloin gyukatsu ₩19,500
- Karaage & fried shrimp ₩7,000
- Mini curry ₩5,000
Pretty generous order for a solo meal, right?! lol

Sirloin gyukatsu you grill yourself
Finally, the gyukatsu I'd been waiting for arrived!!
Along with the neatly plated gyukatsu came a personal mini cast-iron grill plate.
Before eating, they give you butter to spread over the plate first, and as it sizzled and melted, the savory aroma really hit my senses!!
Then you just place a slice of gyukatsu on top with a sizzle and grill it — that's it!

The gyukatsu comes out medium-rare, so they say it tastes best if you grill each side for about 7–8 seconds on the plate!!

Being able to cook it to your own preferred doneness bit by bit is part of the charm of gyukatsu haha.
Taking a bite of the golden-grilled gyukatsu, the outside was crispy and the sirloin inside was tender — crispy outside, juicy inside, done right!! The breading wasn't too thick, so I could really taste the meat's natural flavor and texture, and grilling it fresh made it even tastier!

Most of all, there was something fun about grilling each slice myself, so even eating alone never felt boring lol.
From wasabi to salt — whatever suits your taste!
Another thing I liked about Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch was being able to enjoy the gyukatsu in various combinations.

You could pair it with wasabi, chili sauce, and salt however you liked, so even the same gyukatsu tasted a little different each time!

At first I just dipped it lightly in salt to taste the sirloin's natural savoriness, then in the middle I added a bit of sharp wasabi for a clean finish, and every so often I gave it a kick with chili sauce — so even the last piece never got old!!

Personally, the wasabi combo was my favorite with the meat!! lol
Karaage & fried shrimp plus mini curry too

Since gyukatsu alone felt like not quite enough, I also ordered karaage & fried shrimp, which were nice and crispy — perfect as a side.

Alternating bites of gyukatsu with crispy fried bites in between changed up the texture and made everything taste even better!!

And here's the menu item that turned out to be surprisingly versatile: the mini curry!

Mixing the curry into the rice was already delicious, but dipping the gyukatsu, karaage, or fried shrimp into the curry and eating it with rice was also great, lol. Adding rich curry to the crispy fried pieces made it feel like a whole different dish, so I enjoyed it all the way to the end.

With gyukatsu, fried sides, and curry, I finished the meal totally full!!
Recommended for a Seoul Station lunch or date spot!

From the fun of grilling it yourself on a mini plate to the balance of tender sirloin and crispy breading, Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch was really satisfying! The atmosphere made it comfortable to visit solo, so it worked well as a solo dining spot near Seoul Station, and it also seems like a good option for a date near Seoul Station.
If you're looking for a solid lunch spot near Seoul Station or you just love gyukatsu in general, this place is worth a visit!! On a hungry day like mine, try ordering the gyukatsu along with karaage & fried shrimp and mini curry, and enjoy the full experience!!
