Yongin kalguksu set with added seafood chive pancake: Yubok Kalguksu

In short

Yubok Kalguksu Yongin Korean Folk Village Branch is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) restaurant on Minsokchon-ro in Bora-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. Lunch here was the kalguksu-jjukkumi set, which brings the noodle soup and a spicy octopus rice bowl together, plus an extra seafood chive pancake, and the pufferfish broth went especially well with the house-made geotjeori (fresh kimchi). Yubok Kalguksu is worth a stop for lunch before or after a visit to the Korean Folk Village.

Hobugi's food spot exploration

While looking for a good restaurant near the Korean Folk Village, I found a place where I had a really satisfying lunch, so let me introduce it.

Yubok Kalguksu

I usually like both kalguksu and jjukkumi, so the menu lineup appealed to me right away, and the place turned out even better than I expected. It's close to the Korean Folk Village, so it's a good stop for an outing or a date, and it also worked well as a straightforward lunch spot.

This time at Yubok Kalguksu I ordered the kalguksu-jjukkumi set. It's a set menu that comes with both kalguksu and a jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) rice bowl together, so I liked being able to try two dishes at once. The portion was generous too, more than enough for a hearty lunch.

For anyone hunting for a good restaurant near the Korean Folk Village, this menu setup seems perfect for a family meal or a visit with friends, nothing to hesitate over. The dining room was clean too, so the atmosphere was comfortable.

Pufferfish broth kalguksu and house-made geotjeori

The first thing I tried was the kalguksu.

One spoonful of the broth and it was clean, not sharp at all, a pufferfish-based broth that went down easily. It felt rich yet finished clean, so I kept going back for more.

The noodles had a nice chewy texture, plenty of clams were loaded in, and everything worked well with the broth. I usually love kalguksu, and this one was good enough that I'd recommend it as a top kalguksu spot in Yongin.

Above all, the geotjeori (fresh kimchi) that came with it was such a great match.

I heard they make it in-house, crunchy with just the right seasoning, and eating it with the kalguksu made a really great combination. This kimchi alone gave the place a proper restaurant feel.

The spicy jjukkumi rice bowl was satisfying too

The jjukkumi rice bowl that came with the Yubok Kalguksu set was also delicious.

It wasn't too spicy but had a savory depth that made it great to mix with rice. The octopus itself wasn't chewy at all, soft and easy to eat.

Every bite of the spicy sauce woke up my appetite, and alternating between this and the kalguksu made a nice balance. I'd recommend this dish too for anyone looking for a good jjukkumi spot in Yongin.

You have to try the seafood chive pancake

The seafood chive pancake I ordered on the side was satisfying as well.

The crisp outside and moist inside worked well together, and there was more seafood packed inside than I expected, giving it a great bite.

Chive pancakes can easily feel greasy, but maybe because of the seafood, it felt light while still being savory. The lunch set alone is enough, but if you're dining with others, I'd definitely recommend adding the chive pancake.

There's dessert too!

Yubok Kalguksu also has coffee and snacks ready for dessert!

Being able to have dessert too made the meal feel even more complete and satisfying.

Keep in mind that Yubok Kalguksu may close early once ingredients run out!

Overall this visit was really satisfying. I got to enjoy the clean-broth kalguksu, spicy jjukkumi rice bowl, and crispy jjukkumi pancake all in one meal. The house-made geotjeori in particular paired so well with everything that it stuck in my memory.

If you're looking for a good restaurant near the Korean Folk Village or trying to figure out where to eat lunch in Yongin, this is a place worth visiting.

The table at Yubok Kalguksu after finishing the meal

True to its reputation as a go-to Bora-dong restaurant, the menu lineup was solid, and it held its own as a Giheung dining spot too. I'd also recommend it to anyone looking for kalguksu near Nambu CC, or a clean, satisfying kalguksu place in Yongin.
