Whenever I’m craving sashimi in Guwol-dong, Incheon, I head to Veteran General Fish Market! Personally, I love the salmon here, so whenever I go to either the Incheon City Hall branch or the Guwol branch, I order an assorted platter. This time too, I had assorted sashimi with albap (fish roe rice) ♡

There are tables with outdoor-stall vibes, a little like the clam-grill restaurants on Yeongjongdo, as well as plenty of indoor seats, so it’s nice for a bigger group too. I ate at one of the outdoor-stall-style tables!

The banchan (side dishes) at Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch included cabbage salad, grilled saury, myeongranjeot (salted pollock roe), seaweed soup, and more. I was so happy they served myeongranjeot . . . ♥

The grilled saury was delicious. Oily fish for the first time in a while—so good.

Seaweed soup at a sashimi restaurant is always right. So good when you want something brothy in between bites of sashimi!

Here comes the small assorted sashimi platter. At ₩38,000, it’s great value too. It comes with five kinds of fish: skin-on red sea bream, my favorite salmon, flounder, rockfish, mullet, and more.

I really loved that the stone plate came out cold, keeping the sashimi chilled ㅜ.ㅜ Temperature really is everything with sashimi, quietly but surely..

Every piece was free of any fishy bits. I ate it with aged kimchi, with roasted seaweed, wrapped in ssam (leaf wraps)—there were so many sauces that I never got tired of it.

Ahh, the salmon was so good ... I guess it’s exactly my kind of salmon ,, Once with tartar sauce, once with soy sauce, and once with cho-gochujang (sweet-tangy chili sauce)!

Self-Grilled Kimchi Pancake

Veteran’s self-serve pancake is kimchi pancake. You just have to grill it nicely without burning it, but the self-serve station was such a hot spot that I hovered over it and barely succeeded ..

If you grill it golden brown without burning it, success. It has chili peppers in it, so be aware that it may be spicy.

If you need more sauce or side dishes, you can get them from the self-serve bar. The ssam greens are there too, just so you know. Perilla leaves and lettuce are normally included, but the perilla leaves had run out, so I grabbed two leaves,, and ate lettuce.

Making ssam with my only two perilla leaves. Have a leaf wrap and a shot of soju, and all the tiredness floats away .. 🪽

I love albap at sashimi restaurants, so I ordered it to get some carbs too! I mixed up the albap, which had a gentle margarine aroma, and ate it up.

This was a Guwol-dong Rodeo sashimi restaurant I can recommend for group gatherings in Guwol-dong, Incheon too, with a restroom inside. It’s close to Incheon Terminal and near Rodeo Street, so it’s quite easy to get to!
